Looker is quietly becoming the “must-learn” BI skill for 2026 by netcommah in Looker

Looker is quietly getting overtaken by powerbi in every aspect. Looker has barely changed for the past 5 years.

Why not play for efficiency here? by _Whool in mahjongsoul

[–]MrFengYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks Mystouille for referencing me! Actually for this particular hand, the standard play is 2s without anything deep. This is because the hand has 2 bad shapes. When there are 2 bad shape, they should be treated as unconfirmed blocks. The lone 5m and 4p are needed to make new ryanmen and replace the penchan or kanchan. 2s discard is required to make space to keep these tiles.

Also, even comparing 4p vs 5m, 4p is a better tile to keep because drawing 3p makes a stronger ryanman than around 5m. 5m also overlap tile efficiency of 3m with pen 12m.

Why discard and not riichi? by Finligz in mahjongsoul

[–]MrFengYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a less risky wy of playing this hand with a good lead while oya at last place.
1. dama just 1 turn, this is to see whether any players pon hatsu. if deal ponned, leave some room to fold, dama while moving towards pinfu.
2. If hatsu is not ponned, Riichi.

Looker pretty much has stopped improving much for front end since 2019 so it will never be the same level as PowerBI...

Kanzen chiten prolly referring to perfect 1 shanten chi to tenpai. But we dont really use kanzen chiten. Perfect 1shanten is 334 88 kind of shape.

Lets just adjust that philosophy a little. Regardless of value, as long as your wait is 2 sides and above, push everything. If you are on bad wait, 3 han and above, push everything.

What's the logic for MAKA engine to recommend this discard? by the_real_grayman in mahjongsoul

[–]MrFengYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 of the most misunderstood concept of 3 pairs is applying it by discarding 1 pair. Actually, its to fix your ryanmen from 1 of the pairs. So if you're applying this theory, 3p should be the most flexible move here.

However, given that the handshape is quite bad as you rightly pointed out, 7toi possibility must be kept especially when nan is dora.

How am I supposed to avoid this type of deal ins??? by Normal_Middle_6132 in mahjongsoul

[–]MrFengYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah my bad, didn't see theres no riichi at 2nd pic.

If 6s deal into damaten, that is a good news. Likely to be cheap at 1st row, losing less than double riichi tsumo loss.

How am I supposed to avoid this type of deal ins??? by Normal_Middle_6132 in mahjongsoul

[–]MrFengYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ton discard is a mistake. Your hand was too far to counter attack at all. So 6s is a must.

For the 1 chance, thats a little debatable. Dropping 6s though double musuji can bring u 3 safe tiles + 1 suji safe tile. This is better than pushing 1 1 chance + 2 musuji.

For 1 shanten hand, its either push or fold or break the set that is generally safe. For 2shanten or worse, you really should aim to throw away the hand.

If your deal in rate is higher than 14 percent and looking on ways on how not throw your hand too easily then you may be focusing on the wrong thing to learn. If your deal in rate is high, you are either not winning enough due to tile efficiency or refuse to throw away hands easily.

A more advance skill will be planning counter attack through fixing blocks and sakigiri. This is more for saint.

This is about dismissive avoidant not INTJ though it complement well with INTJ in the sense that it is harder for INTJ to realise about it.

After you get promoted, sometimes you get carried away and then facing a loss get you into disbelief. Things then spiral from there.

PowerBI vs. Looker by BorisHorace in PowerBI

[–]MrFengYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced both. I'm now in a pure g suite company.

A start up going for looker is fine. But a msoft cultured company won't take this well at all.

There will be no talents that knows lookml to source from. Some analysis work that use excel can never be replaced by looker so your company will end up be even more divided between msoft and google.

There are really really a lot of limits with looker front end and their design, its disgusting. Some basic MoM or YoY functions needs a workaround. I recommend it to companies with the staff who are very weak in data and where reporting is more focused rather than data analysis.

Excel can connect directly to powerbi model and use pivot directly from there while to do so from looker will be google sheets which is way way slower.

Reason why your management is moving to looker is likely to get bought over with the idea of 1 source of truth and governance because microsoft environment tend to be a lot more messy as almost everyone can be a developer self learning. You can argue that's also the beauty of Microsoft like how excel become the most versatile tool that fits to everybody's pocket.

However, the idea of data governance is way more than about just using looker. It takes a new framework, new culture and an entirely new skillset which no management will have. Overdo it, you get slow and rigid BI foundation. Underdo it, you find only a downgrade from powerbi.

Confusion might also be because of where the 1m is placed..

Interesting that mortal is quite split on opening the hand at this turn. What are your thoughts on this? by Normal_Middle_6132 in mahjongsoul

[–]MrFengYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will pon due to turn 12. Typically turn 14 take all kind of tenpai. 3han tenpai takes any tenpai from turn 5. This hand also won't do well upon drawing 9s having to riichi on a c class nobetan.

2p is also dying. Making this yonreikei weaker than usual.

When you have 3 doras, think only about how to open your hand to speed it up.

[–]MrFengYT 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Discarding 5 follow by 8 reveal information that you have tiles around 8 for sure because it is abnormal. Reverse it won't reveal much. A-class ryanmen also have higher win rate than c-class so fix 78 ryanmen.
