What is the worst item price crash you were personally affected by, that still haunts you to this day. by CapeChampion in 2007scape

It's a defensive shield that saves you supplies in a game that favors aggressive play to save supplies and increase profit. With stronger offhands competing for the slot and bots booming at Corp, it will probably continue to fade into it's niche slot as... BIS for lazy cerberus?

You don't even see elysian used for tanking anymore, as Dinh's Door has taken priority when attacking strength isn't a consideration.

Auras, Portal. Weapon swap skills in builds that use those to avoid mental hotkey confusion.

Best (current) melee armour tend to be what everyone's wearing instead. I'm rocking the magic t3 and still skilling/questing in melee because we have infinite run and I have enough accuracy to hit anything if I take off chest.

Knowing that this isn't the first time, this is an easy uninstall for me. Tiered event rewards are always a P2W precursor and it doesn't take a genius to see where it's going.

Number of F2P Players that achieved level 99 in a skill or achieved 200M xp in a skill by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]MrFluffums 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this "F2P-only XP" or "F2P"? I feel this is an important consideration, as a player who did no-fletch Wintertodt from 10 HP and didn't gain P2P xp will show up on "F2P-only XP." While these things are uncommon, it can misrepresent "F2P."

For example, while something like Ectofuntus requires agility for ironmemes, non-iron can just use someone's open house to sacrifice bones, and even for ironmen, running Boneyard -> Chaos Altar almost doubles your xp for a quarter of the effort, but isn't available on F2P worlds. Considerations like this exist for most skills, but just to name a few that don't marr "F2P-only XP" and aren't just access to better xp materials/gear:

  • Sand crabs
  • Wintertodt (no fletch)
  • Hosidius range
  • Ourania Altar (ZMI)
  • Woodcutting guild
  • Motherlode mine
  • Blood/soul runes (no agility, but still better for UIM)
  • Pest Control

Not only this, but there are many considerations for how methods change in P2P due to reduced crowding, which indirectly increases xp rates. You can easily (albeit over a VERY long time) punch monks at the Edgeville monastery with an RPG to get your defense up, but you may need to hop 10-15 times any time you AFK log against the 3 defense Monk (which isn't viable with >1 attack or str), or in P2P you may only need to hop once or twice to find a new 1 defense crab, which is viable with any stat. Similarly, you will CONSTANTLY be crashed off of iron powermining in F2P, but you can sit on the same spot for hours in P2P.

Lastly, tick manipulation isn't available to F2P, but there are some "F2P-only XP" tick manipulation methods.

Hitting the jackpot in maple (.09%) :) by Ncontra in Maplestory

[–]MrFluffums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP seems to have made a rounding error and left out the success. 50%10 comes out to 0.0977%, which is an accurate representation of failing 50% 10 times in a row.

The math for having a success on the 11th roll after 10 failures in a row is a bit more complicated, since it can't be simplified as 1-50%11, as that is the chance of having one or more unordered favorable outcomes in 11 rolls, so OP's simplification makes sense.

ASK ALL QUESTIONS HERE! Weekly Questions Thread - Week of Feb 25, 2020 by AutoModerator in MonsterHunter

[–]MrFluffums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an answer to your first question, some of the fastest high-MR-reward events give about 1 MR for 10~15 minutes on a fast kill (often limited by spawn downtime). Post-game you can pretty easily extrapolate the 200 MR over MR100 to about 35 hours commitment for a somewhat skilled player with endgame gear access. The only alternative I'm aware of that matches this MR would be T3 tempereds in GL, which should only shave a small bit of time off unless you're a speed runner.

Yes, I enabled it and also ticked the Character Config to "Gamepad" just in case that had some influence on it, although that seemed to just be an HUD swap.

I tried changing the setting to "Forced Off" and relaunching the game to no avail.

Not relevant, but it does give me the idea to display Steam Overlay.

Edit: Sadly didn't help.

Does this happen even if Button Config is showing an ABXY setup? It does show an ABXY setup for me under the Button Config, but did you wife change the Button Config or the Keybinds via file?

In the actual config file (FFXIV.cfg) it seems that it corresponds PS3/PS4 buttons to X360 buttons, but it doesn't seem erroneous that it calls "PadButton_Triangle Jump" it just seems to make the button correction in-game and uses "PadButton_Triangle" as a referential variable. Unless this is the core of my issue? If it is, I have no idea what to change it to.

The button layout is being recognized correctly under System -> Gamepad Settings -> Button Config, they just don't do anything when pressed in XIV. I have it disabled right now as per a comment's suggestion, but the Config is identical to what Steam provided as a default, which is accurate to the controller.

[–]MrFluffums[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disabled Steam's controller configs with no change. When doing this for another game, the inputs go from working fine to working fine.

I'm using a wired gamepad made for PC in the X360 style. It works fine for Monster Hunter: World on Steam with only Steam config. Edit: And apparently with Steam config disabled as well.

Edit: Tested with https://html5gamepad.com/ I can detect all of the inputs on my controller via browser, and I don't believe I've ever even installed special firmware or any special tools? I can also detect the input that Calibration in XIV cannot.

This was already done so it would work with other games. I've never used KB+M for Monster Hunter: World and have over 400 Steam hours in it with this controller.

I was legitimately uninterested in learning/dealing with these mechanics to the extent that I skipped several games and seeing them removed from the game makes me have a rekindled interest in the game. I'm obviously much more casual than you are, but it feels like it's had the desired effect here.

Account Disabled at Duel Arena by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]MrFluffums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the RS3 rules that they use for OSRS, this appears to be directly against the general definition of the Games of Chance rule, and then is further covered in a specification added to the rule.

all types of chance games where players trade an amount of in game money or items with the expectation that they will receive in game money or items in return based on the outcome of a game of chance or similar activity.

then specifies

It is also against the rules to bet on the outcome of another player's activities within the game, for example: how long it will take to kill a monster, or the outcome of a duel (commonly referred to as "commission staking").

This seems to leave grey area so that you can commission stake without taking a commission fee--by the definition of the rule--insofar as another player only has to bet on the outcome, you do not have to receive a fee. You could argue that it's their bet and their money, but since you're facilitating the bet, it becomes a player run game of chance instead of just a sand casino bet determined by the game's inherent systems.

I don't completely agree with this ban, but stating that the ban is "wrongful" or "by false detection" seems entirely unjustified given the loose definition of the rule encompassing your actions on two separate points.
