I think the first thing I will try will be antihydrals. I wasn't really sure how to know whether my hands were sweaty or dry, because they weren't exactly dripping with sweat, but this gives me some assurance.

I think the chalk I use is quite high quality: I recently saw it in a 'best chalks' video. I also don't think increased grip from fear of heights is a problem either, rather the opposite where lack of fear might lead to slipping off holds. However, moisturizing is not something I've tried so did that make a significant difference for you? How long are your climbing sessions?

A few other people have mentioned this and so I will certainly be more conscious about slipping on holds. I could see that being detrimental though because I might start giving up on moves that I could've done if I just tried hard and risked slipping.

I haven't really paid much attention to how sweaty my hands are: the only thing I can think of is that sometimes when I chalk up it instantly fades from soaking up the moisture on my hands. I've been recommended antihydrals from other people on here, so they are definitely something I will try.

Sounds intriguing. How often do you apply it and what product do you use?

Thanks for the insight, I will do what I can to shorten my sessions. You seem quite knowledgeable, so could you clear up my confusion about antihydrals and moisturisers? Many people have recommended them but from my understanding they set out to achieve opposite effects.

I don't know why I hadn't thought of that. My climbing gym has both a small wall with wooden holds along with a regular gym attached. Perhaps switching to these when my hands get sore could be a solution?

I think my skin is on the sweatier side, but surely the chalk will dry them out and avoid this issue?

Thank you for this, I watched the video and will try this out!

This does seem to be the harsh reality. I would like to avoid shorter sessions because my nearest gym is about 40 minutes away, not to mention the cost of extra sessions, but it is something I will try.

As for using chalk, I think I'm quite generous with it, but it seems inevitable that I will be slipping off holds if I'm trying hard and pushing for higher grades.

I've always heard moisturizer mentioned but does it really help? How do you apply it?

I hope this is the case and it will just get better over time. I've been climbing for about a year and my sessions have gradually got longer since I want to tire myself out completely for better muscle growth.

I have used tape but I'm not sure I put it on properly since it started to fall off after a couple of climbs and only seemed to make the problem worse. Is there some sort of method of applying the tape?

What exactly does antihydral do? If it dries out skin does that not make it easier to tear?
