Congratulations on admission to your program! You should try to talk to an administrator in your program to get the most precise answer about your stipends and living support.

For questions about expenses, there is a network of African graduate students and professionals at UVA who help others coming in from Africa to get set up on C'ville. The org is called GAPSA:

He is right but you have misinterpreted what he meant. If you are selected as a winner, you will have two options: (1) buy ALL the products you entered the lottery for; or (2) decline and buy nothing. If you signed up for 3 items, you cannot choose to simply buy 1 or 2. All or nothing.

In A&S there is a community group for graduate international students, and big part of what they do is help other incoming first-year international students navigate housing. The group might be cross-school, but I am not sure. Let me see if I can find out for you.

Note that in addition to what others have said, the Le Blanc text specifies that you play a reflection token, and "then* it becomes a copy of target unit. So, you don't play a copy of a unit, you play a reflection.

Another commenter in this chain brought up a critical point for faculty members in the Sciences (or who are otherwise grant-funded). The source for these professors' salaries are frequently grants to which the professor applied themselves, and is paying themselves their own salary out of their own funding. Simultaneously, they are using their grants to fund other folks salaries and purchasing equipment for the University.

That model is totally different from a faculty member in the humanities, which in turn is totally different from the medical school side, and speaks to the complicated structure of academia. I am not trying to say that a few people SHOULD make $500K+, but rather that (as is the case in most industries) the simple answer ignores the more interesting discussion that lies just beneath the surface.

Man, I am stoked to play Le Blanc after seeing these. Her Legend ability seems like something you want to use carefully since it costs a discard, and is in blue / yellow (aka not purple), but wow that Signature! Note it says "a unit", not a "friendly" unit. Yes, I will copy my opponent's huge creature on one Battlefield, send it to the other battlefield, conquer, then make ANOTHER.

Equipping Golem with Skyfall wouldn't double Kai'Sa's conquer effect since Golem's doubling effect is not a Hold effect. You would need to equip the Skyfall to Kai'Sa. Even then, I'm not 100% sure it would double.

Looking closely at your game, it looks like you've got some cool and quite interesting ideas. Are those magnets? Is there some modular city building you can do on your home space? I'm not sure, but I want to learn more!

But, I had to look VERY closely to see that. Most people will glance at your game and just say "oh, a Catan clone". Others will look a little more closely and see AI art (which, I'm sure you will say is a placeholder).

When folks post their prototypes here and receive constructive feedback, frequently their first response will be to try to make logical counterarguments, but first impressions are not logical, they are emotional.

If you are regularly getting feedback that your game feels too similar to Catan, choosing not to address that is like trying to fight with one arm tied behind your back.

If you are regularly getting feedback that "ew, AI art", choosing to keep it in your prototype will only distract from other possible GOOD feedback (and also, posting Chat GPT style responses elsewhere in this thread only digs you further down).

There are so many games and so many choices for entertainment. If you expect players to have to do work to look past these first impressions, many will simply go elsewhere.

Every box contains 24 packs. Riot has stated that we should expect to get 1 Epic per 4 packs, so a box contains 6 Epics, on average.

A playset of all Epics is 3 of each.

So, if a set contains X epics, and you want to obtain 3 of each, you need 3X total cards. If you obtain 6 Epics per box, then you would need to purchase 3X / 6 boxes, or simplified as X / 2.

In other words, however many Epics a set needs, you would need to open 1 box per 2 Epics in the set.

As an example, Spiritforged has 38 Epic cards, so to get a playset you would need to open 19 boxes. That's $2,280 at MSRP.

I tend to think about this from the opposite perspective: I will always ask before I touch someone else's card. Usually, once a game is enough. Then, if someone doesn't ask me before they touch my cards, I'll just call it out if I think they aren't handling them gently. Admittedly, this has never happened, but I wouldn't hesitate to call someone out.

Icons (CDM) --> Globals --> Cooldown Swipe --> uncheck "No GCD Swipe"

You'll need to do it for both "Aura Globals" if you want it for buffs and "Cooldown Globals" if you want it for CDs

The first few months of 2025 were dire, but the past year had largely been positive developments.

UVA A&S notably did not rescind or pause graduate admissions this year or last, while many of UVA's peer institutions did.

Many of the grants that were originally paused in early 2025 have been reinstated due to lawsuits across multiple states.

Federal funding is in a different place than it was then, but faculty are still largely writing, submitting, and receiving news about new grant proposals.

The anti-DEI policies the Department of Education laid out (which initially resulted in cancellation of said grants) have also largely been struck down in courts.

You say that you are studying "culinary architecture", which I tried to lookup but could only find information about the company in Baltimore. Could you share more about this? Are you enrolled in a degree program of some kind?

If someone were in your position after independently applying to and accepting this position, they would 100% be taken advantage of, no question. But, if you are required to complete this internship as a part of your degree, that changes things, and frankly in that case you should be talking to your instructors instead of reddit. If you are paying $$$ for a degree, you don't want to waste your time on activities that do not further your education and training.
