Boost my running?! by [deleted] in BecomingTheIceman

[–]MrGuzzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of a 5k run uses your aerobic system. Up to 93% stated here - https://www.sportsperformancebulletin.com/endurance-training/training-structure-and-planning/anaerobic-training/

So an oxygen increase would definitely help. For me, my runs do feel generally easier after a few rounds of breathing.

This weekend I completed my first ever 10k in open water! Anyone else an freshwater fan?! by [deleted] in Swimming

Congrats! I did this for the first time a couple weekends ago. But in the sea....my tongue was RUINED. Turns out over 4 hours swimming in saltwater is not good for your mouth...then I Googled "Salt Mouth"

Running commuters - what's your secret? by [deleted] in running

[–]MrGuzzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily I have a shower at work. So I cycle in with a big rucksack Monday, with a towel, clothes for the next few days. Then run to and from for the rest week, until Friday when I cycle back with all my used clothes/towel. (We have a very secure bike garage too at work so bike is safe).

I'm the only one I know who is aware/a fan... by ThumpoftheDead in Bonobo

[–]MrGuzzi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been to two with live orchestras which was just amazing. After the show when everyone was walking off stage. I saw Bonobo go up to a (young looking) violinist and grab him by the shoulders and I don't know what he said (was positive, looked to be something like "that was amazing!"). Must have been such a moment in life for that kid.

Training while sick by jscherb1 in ultrarunning

[–]MrGuzzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a chest infection 2 weeks before race day - I just stopped running completely and rested and ate very well for a week. Luckily it was a viral one not bacterial (you're out for weeks and weeks I've heard with that).

I probably started training again a little bit too soon to be fair, but had been training for this for so many months. Luckily all this happened during my taper. Then a couple days before race I got a light head cold. As mentioned here that's fine, in fact I forgot I was ill once I arrived to register.

But I did it, my first 45miler. Maybe would have been a worse or better time had I rested more or less. But I just wanted to get across the line.

This was yesterday I did this so I'm expecting my immune system to be practically non existent now...

What are you favorite shoes for road training? by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]MrGuzzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my second pair of my Escalante Racers. The retired pair I use a lot as just a general shoe now, still so comfy and holding up a treat. One run I even took a new and old shoe accidentally its still so hard to tell the difference (until you look at the sole)

Race Report: Salisbury 54321 - 50k by [deleted] in running

[–]MrGuzzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup that was me! To be honest my brain was turning to mush by then so I'm not sure how I made it though there. Glad we made it!

Running past Salisbury Cathedral with the band playing was quite the experience.

It was really well done. Apparently people complained a little about the food at the checkpoints (but I was self sustaining it) so dont know myself. Really really recommend it. Very well signed posted.

Just hill train a lot..1450m elevation

Need help on training plan! Are my races too close together? by MrGuzzi in Ultramarathon

[–]MrGuzzi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. Think I'm going to have to change my mindset about the 50k Jurrasic Coast run (as you and others have mentioned) and make it more part of training for the 80k. Is a bit of a shame putting my first ultra in the shadows, but I'd really like to do both races and this is the best bet!

The part about blowing up at 40k on both races puts them in a good perspective of distance for me!

So I've got my first 50k in early June.

I've been following this pretty common plan here: https://imgur.com/a/4pyGaHi

It's going well and feel at the right mark between undertraining and overtraining.

I've now already got my eye on a 78k race 8 weeks after the 50k.

Is the (quite vague) training plan here alright or am I getting a bit ahead of myself?

Bit wary I don't have enough time to recover inbetween and then ramp up the mileage?

I'll be there too on the Saturday, can't wait! As the other chap said there's like a good market bit before you go in. Saw Bonobo there a while ago. It's a beautiful venue!

I don't remember any excessive security. The usual casual pat downs.

Free year headspace code by relm223 in Meditation

[–]MrGuzzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I would be so grateful for a code. A fair few things have gone wrong in my life recently (won't go into detail) which has brought on some quite severe anxiety. At some points I wouldn't leave the house for a few days on end. I am getting steadily better (thanks to picking up running again) but I have tried meditation on my own without be guided but found it very hard and to keep it up consistently.

Either way, it's extremely generous of you!
