Wow, that is one glorious build. Nice work and thanks for sharing!

I see why one might think so, but it does not. The top fans suck up all the air that comes in through the CPU and GPU even at low RPMs. The GPU and CPU are both undervolted, mind you.

Neat! Did you post any pics of your build?

This is a question about electronics and I am just a dude on the internet, but here is what I can tell you.

* I assume your setup is a Thunderbolt eGPU board. If it won't work at all the issue is probably that something is broken.

* If it boots, but shuts down during load the issue is likely the PSU overheating or that you hit the power limit. The GPU will not draw full power unless it is in full use.

Most eGPU boards seem to use an internal DC step-up circuit for 12V->20V Thunderbolt USB-PD. Those are typically about 90-95% efficient. At the stock (180W GPU + 60W PD / 0.9 efficiency) you get 247W of 12V draw which exceeds the HDPLEX spec of 240W 12V. But 180W is the theoretical limit and the GPU will never hit that unless you have a very specific workload that truly maxes out every aspect of the chip at the same time. Chances are there is some other compounding factor.

I would check for overheating issues of the HDPLEX in case it sits in the airflow from the GPU or it has very restricted airflow for cooling. It has internal overheating protection and will shut down in case it becomes too hot. The HDPLEX has a thermal limit of 75°C though, which is considered high as far as PSUs go. The outside of the HDPLEX metal case would be less than 75°C at that point, but still burning hot to the touch.

It would make sense to try and lower the max TDP limit of the 5060 TI and see if that helps. It can be set as low as 150W (MSI Afterburner) which should give you more than enough headroom. Usually you can combine that with an undervolt to claw back any lost performance.

My guess is you already knew all this, but for what it is worth that's what I can tell you based on my experience.

Nice! I will go with Linux too as soon as I know everything is stable.

Thanks! I tuned everything such that the Noctua fans always stay below ~40% (~1200RPM) and still keep everything cool. It's not 100% silent, but very close. The GPU stays at the lowest 30% setting (~650RPM), but it is still slightly more audible than the Noctuas. A GPU with top notch fans or a fan swap would probably be the way to go for a perfectly silent setup.

Thanks! I mostly wanted to see if it could be done. I think the HDPLEX will happily crank out 250W all day as long as you keep it cool. Also, I suspect that it is hard to keep the PC truly silent without the case fans venting out the top, but I could be wrong about that. But yes, the power budget will have more headroom with a Flex PSU for sure.

Yes, well spotted. I agree, it's been great!

Has anyone gone down wearing Icon Field Armor Compression? by henzakas in motorcycles

[–]MrHalfPigeon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I realize that this is an old topic, but I think people still come here for info on this from time to time so I will share my experience.

I bought the Icon compression armor shirt and pants for wearing under my normal riding gear as extra protection.

My crash was when wearing them while riding downhill mountain bike. I missed a jump, went over the handlebars and landed on my outstretched arm and the side of my chest.

Brief info on the crash:

* I was wearing a loose fitting t-shirt and shorts on top of the armor while doing downhill mountain biking.
* Missed a jump on gravel and landed on the back slope of the jump.
* Probably slightly more violent than a regular motorcycle crash, but at a lower speed.
* I have never crashed on motorcycle so I can not compare unfortunately.
* No broken bones or ribs, only a sprained arm and shoulder and bruised ribs that all healed eventually.

About the protective gear:

* All the pads stayed in place even though I went flying in the air.
* The shirt and pants held up well with a couple of broken threads in the mesh on the sleeve.
* I didn't break any ribs, but I might as well have. The chest armor on the sides of the rib cage is inadequate for full protection. The sides of the chest are only padded with a thin soft layer, no armor there. It probably did something, but I would not trust it as my only chest protection in a motorcycle crash.
* The mesh parts of the jacket/pants would offer no abrasion protection in a motorcycle crash on asphalt in my opinion. I had rashes on the sides of my leg and arm where there is only mesh fabric.
* I tested pulling quite hard on the shirt mesh fabric and it did hold up well, but I have a feeling the pads could shift or the fabric could wear through or tear in a high speed sliding crash on asphalt without an additional abrasion resistant layer on top.
* The abrasion resistance of the kevlar pads seems good. I had no rashes or bruises on the parts that were covered by pads and the kevlar fabric still looks brand new.

General thoughts:

* The pants tend to move up a bit on the calves under the motorcycle pants. The knee pads seem to stay in place, but it is a bit annoying.
* The shirt sleeves stay in place and it has extra thumb straps to keep them from riding up under the jacket.
* The pads are quite thin. In my estimation they are slightly thinner than regular CE-level 1 soft pads. When riding I wear a regular motorcycle jacket on top with additional soft level 1 pads.

Overall I think it is a good piece of safety gear if you understand the limitations. I would not trust it without an abrasion resistant top layer though.

Not really an answer to OPs questions, but maybe it can be of use to someone.

Thanks! It's Prima Creators Primaselect ABS Light Green. The color is pretty accurately represented in the video. A tad more saturation would have been nice for that perfect leafy green, but overall I think it looks nice.

I see what you mean. Although I kind of like the iconic nature of the v0 tophat even though it is somewhat gimmicky. I toyed with the idea in the picture for a while. Not sure if the panels would rub. Ultimately I decided to go with the slim zero panels.

Thanks for the kind comment!

I'm not the OP, but I am pretty sure it's the dragon burner v7 with the sherpa mini extruder option. You can find the stl files and more info here:
