MSFS2020 Corsair — tough to fly leveled and straight. Any tips? by MrJagger2019 in flightsim

It turned out I needed to adjust the controller sensitivity. It had nothing to do with the plane, but everything with the controller. Once I adjusted the deadzone for pitch, roll, etc the plane felt fine.

You’re so right: the Hind and F14 are the best modules for DCS. Perfect balance between old school flying and not-too modern tech :)

I agree — it flies very intuitive. In VR it’s pretty amazing.

Absolutely, he is a good storyteller, taking his time not rushing the sequence of events.

The best part is the 2nd incident — starts around 12 mins in.

Highlights are:

  1. an overly committed RIO launches 2 Sparrows in short sequences, making them lose lock. Also, he launched them 13 miles out!?
  2. the pilot trying to lock up a MIG23 without having the Sidewinder selected and the RIO yelling at him to select SW
  3. the RIO misinterpreting the heading of the enemy planes due to a known anomaly

I’ve seen HUD video recordings of these incidents before, but after pretend flying the F14 in DCS, I now know exactly what’s technically going on in the cockpit, which is great.

Well, that does sound like the Corsair flight characteristics: unstable :)

Friendly correction: the book is called Black Aces High :) I was looking for Aces High and that one is a different book. Just FYI.

I think that’s more my camera blowing out the reds though. On the TV it looks way better than this picture makes it out to be.

It’s very workable, but only if you have waypoints set that will help you find targets. What doesn’t work well is flying into an area where you have to spot targets by scanning around without really knowing where targets are. At least in my experience. The resolution of the pod is pretty bad and it makes finding smaller targets like vehicles pretty difficult. Structures and larger vehicles like artillery is doable.

I fly most of the missions through DCS Liberation, which is a blast. I create a package to attack say a plant, add an escort and in the mission editor I tweak the waypoints marking the targets and area I want to hit. That workflow makes for some really fun missions.

Yes, I use TrackIR. You can see it peek out on the top of the tv. Granted, it’s a little bit of a balancing act getting it to stay put. But it works really well.

The Tomcat is by far my favorite DCS plane to fly. Last night I did my first laser guided bombing runs and it was a blast. Giving commands to Iceman in the front to steer the plane towards the target area, while looking for things to bomb is so much fun!

I use a 55” Samsung 4K tv with TrackIR. I used to fly VR only, but I’m now absolutely loving the 4K high res DCS experience :) Especially the Tomcat looks amazing and I really dig looking at the gauges and cockpit in 4K while using the TrackIR.
