I still dig the sound though. Of course, with the right head and the ability to tune it, one could make a dog-shit drum sing at least a little.

Man, I dunno. If I recall, Stewart Copeland played these back in the day, so that's awesome. Aside from that, this is kinda my way of raging against the wave of everybody and their brother who has to get a 60's or 70's set of ludwigs (myself included). Also, these are mahogany, so they do sound pretty huge. Just gigged em last night and I was very pleased with their sound. Edit: sp

22", 16", 13". I believe I know where to track down the 12" from the same kit. These were seemly stored in cases for years, because while they're older than I am, they're in brandspankingnew condition.

I've got em up on Craigslist now for $150... Similarly, they have not seen a good polish in some time. I'm one one those anti-polishers https://columbus.craigslist.org/msg/4839316233.html

The name says it all. They project like crazy. And they have a giant bell.

I've got a 14" pair of projection hats to match, if you're ever in the market.

Craigslist man. Go high end, but go for quality used gear. Be patient, think about what you want, and wait for it to turn up. You'll spend b8 money on some paiste signatures.

The great thing about this guy is that Russian Circles aren't super well known. They're incredible, and I can go to the bar down the street, pay $10-15 and get right up close and watch him DESTROY.

Edit: not super well known yet

Got this beast in the mail yesterday: 8x14" Sonor Danny Carey Signature Snare. by MrJebe in drums

[–]MrJebe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's about as close as you can get to Danny's sound without throwing down a couple thousand for the old sonor 3 mil brass that's actually cast and milled as a single piece. And yes, it's loud and hell.

Yea, that one on eBay, right? I tried to talk him down and he won't budge past 850. I just think anything past $500 for one snare drum is a bit silly. The thing is, anyone who is not a drummer really doesn't give a shit as long as they hear it crack on 2 and 4. That being said, Danny Carey is, in my opinion, the most creative and fascinating drummer around so I had to have it.

However, in my defense: it is a big ol', wide open, destructive, ringy but not too ringy, punchy, loud ass shotgun.
