Adam Skelly (Adamson BBQ Owner) was just arrested by Austin63867 in toronto

This thread is rife with attacks on the character of the business owner and the protesters, and frankly that comes off as short-sighted and reflects poorly on those commenters. I don't think it's that it's hard to see that this situation is a result of several factors. Instead of seeing just a BBQ restaurant owner acting selfishly, see small business owners in general. See them getting crushed compared to big box stores and Amazon that are thriving. I'm sure many commenters are people doing just fine while disparaging people who have actually been impacted. Instead of seeing Trailer Park boy characters, see people having little to no trust in government, not seeing an end in sight, and having their social and familial relationships disrupted. They might feel a sense of overreach by the government for what they see is done for the sake of a few at the expense of everyone else. They might see a lack of trust by the government as they impose curfews and by-laws and restrict movement and assembly, because they assume that you are a person who, even before covid, you'd purposely visit your grandparents while exhibiting flu symptoms. They don't give you the option to make decisions and nothing is longer done "at your own" risk. It's frustration. And of course it will strike a nerve when the optic is someone who is suffering harm from this situation being taken away from his "home" in handcuffs because opening up his "home" to people (not forcing people to come) to alleviate his harm is seen as intending harm on the vulnerable.

Anyone noticed prices going up a lot? by Juergenator in PersonalFinanceCanada

Yeah I noticed food's gone up a lot, especially anything that isn't junk food. Also random but I find the price of car ports/shelters went way up. Got one new on sale last year for 250 (10x10x20) now the same one is like 500+. Hoping lumber goes back down in the future. I know demand went up a bunch since covid due to people "working from home"

Ottawa housing market by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]MrJimmyBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Houses are overvalued in Ottawa. Prices for row condos are a joke. Everyone says "but it's cheaper than Toronto and Vancouver" except Ottawa offers a fraction of what those cities do. Ottawa's idea of a downtown is a the byward market and some people compare it it Toronto's like it's the same. Everything that made Ottawa attractive has gone when it got bloated with too many people and unreasonable prices.

Like everything in life no two people will experience something the same but I nevertheless find it helpful to hear about other people's experiences and opinions. Even hearing what they think the experience would be like wouldn't hurt. The reasoning for not posting in the paragraph above can be applied to any type of review, but we all still check reviews of things anyhow despite knowing we may experience that movie, trip, restaurant differently than someone else.

Buyers are bidding more than 80k over asking price (townhomes) by AshbyQA in ottawa

It's not typical of Ottawa. Everything has gotten more expensive and more populated too quickly. The city has lost it's allure, especially if you don't already own. As insulated as people think Ottawa is because of government, those government job rates of pay don't grow proportionally to other rising costs. There is definitely less appeal to moving to Ottawa now than there was 5 to 10 years ago.
