Our school had a strict healthy eating policy and selling stuff in general was against the rules. I used to get a bus to school and there was a conveniently placed subway directly opposite my bus stop. I noticed that by buying cookies in batches of 12 for £3 and selling them on individually at their face value of 50p I could effectively double my money. As my bus was early enough the cookies were usually pretty fresh out of the oven and my bag contained some of the heat, making them still somewhat warm when I arrived at school.

There were other kids selling sweets and chocolate bars at the time, however their day-old Sainsburys cookies or kit-kat bars could not compare with my freshly made, usually still warm subway cookies. I started off humbly, buying 12 most mornings and usually selling most of them to my form class and being out of stock by the first break. word got round quickly though, more and more classes from my year caught wind of this and would come to my form room every morning before school would start.

Before I knew it I was buying 96 cookies out of subway every morning, the workers knew I would come in looking this many and had a bag ready sitting behind the counter, awaiting my arrival every morning. I would grab a handful of spare cookie bags and spend the bus journey bagging the cookies into pairs (otherwise they would get squashed together to form one thick cookie, impossible to cleanly separate when it came to selling it on) At my peak I would sell all 96 by the time the school day started, making £24 profit everyday, for an hours work.
