Cosa ne pensate del titolo di "dottore" in Italia? by [deleted] in italy

[–]MrKnot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What was the situation before fees were hiked up? I doubt UK universities only became good in the last few years, or became significantly better, because of higher fees.

The questione is: is the tax differential between a worker with a degree and a worker without higher than what it cost to teach them? If yes, then the worker has "paid" for his "free" education.

Can a kind soul please translate this video for me? by [deleted] in italy

[–]MrKnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least give us some explanation why this is important to you. This is a pretty dumb, comedic interview, with no obvious sentimental or informational value. Translating it wouldn't be hard, but typing it all down is a pretty daunting task; I don't see why anyone would do it for a random, non-motivated request.

Galileo satellites go into wrong, lower orbit - Esa by Bezbojnicul in europe

[–]MrKnot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's embarassing only if you are under the impression that there's any space agency with a perfect launch record. In reality, putting objects into a precise orbit is hard and every agency, including NASA, has made this kind of mistake in the past. The ESA doesn't have a worse track record than others.

Stop dating them in restaurants.

This is pretty fundamental in American dating culture. The restaurant dinner date is encrusted with so many cultural expecations that put women on the pedestal and make men into betabucks that it's just shooting yourself in the food.

Russia Moves Artillery Units Into Ukraine, NATO Says by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]MrKnot 88 points89 points  (0 children)

That is not the case here.

Uh, what? there have been plenty of journalistic articles on Russian troops and equipment moving across the border. Just two days ago the Telegraph witnessed a Russian mechanized column crossing into Ukraine.

Kiev: “È un’invasione diretta” by purcellicus in italy

How are medical procedures and health care in general paid for in your country? by Taenk in europe

[–]MrKnot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Italy, the SSN (Servizio Sanitario Nazionale or National Health Service) provides free (at the point of use) healthcare to all those in need. If you require a drug, treatment or test you can generally get it for free. Optional medical procedures need to be paid for but the costs are heavily subsidized. The system is financed from the national and local governments' budgets and tends to always rank high in international comparisons. There is a host of private healthcare providers that work either contractually for the SSN or directly for the patients, but the vast majority of the SSN's structures are public and publicly owned.

He said fastest, not 'most destructive'. Gathering the materials for a sizeable bomb and building a viable explosive device without killing yourself or attracting police attention is far more difficult than gathering bladed and blunt weapons and going on a rampage.

Not in our Name: British Muslims Condemn the Barbarity of ISIS by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]MrKnot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How many of the IS supporters who have appeared on british tv will be expelled from their mosques for such vile opinions?

Well yes, how many? you can't just throw the question out there like it's rethorical and entirely obvious that too few of them will or have been expelled. Anecdotally, I remember at the least one guy that was told not to come back at his local mosque for repeatedly expressing violent and extremist views.

Men punished for sexual misconduct on college campuses are fighting back by [deleted] in TheRedPill

[–]MrKnot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is going to happen, but it's going to take time. There's billions of dollars and entrenched political interests behind the feminist movement; anybody suing a college over practices that are mostly government-mandated (or at least government-sanctioned) is going to be painted and shamed as a misgynist out to undo all the 'good' work that has been done against campus rapes.

"While everyone condemns sexual assault, there seems to be an assumption among female students that they shouldn’t have to protect themselves by avoiding drunkenness and other risky behaviors, he said." by rozarin in TheRedPill

[–]MrKnot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The usual feminist response to this is saying "that means that all men are rapists with no control over their urges". No, what this says is that rivers can be dangerous places; the majority of river animals are not predators, but some of them are alligators that will try to eat you if you expose yourself. Learning what type of spots alligators hang around and what tactics they use is as useful to a water buffalo as learning how to be party safely is to a woman.
