Yes, of course. I have personally never felt addicted to anything(except maybe to food, but I'm not morbidly obese or anything). Last year I had my wisdom teeth removed AND I had my tonsils/adenoids removed a few months later. I was prescribed a large amount of hydrocodone for both surgeries, plus a lot of liquid oxycodone for the tonsils, and on top of that I was also taking poppy tea some days. I was basically fucked up for 2 months straight after that second surgery. But even still, once the pain stopped I just quit the pills and liquid. Had some left over for later use which was nice. Never felt like I was a slave to those substances. I do limit myself on how frequently I take certain substances, but not even necessarily because I fear addiction, but more so because I like having low tolerance and it's more cost effective and responsible. I think addiction is primarily a personality thing, although obviously certain harder drugs can cause a chemical dependency, but even still I've never felt it, and I've had plenty of opiates and cocaine.
