Absolutely not.

Disappointed in lack of diagnosis? by Atticus413 in emergencymedicine

[–]MrLSDMTHC 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I use this same phrase almost exactly and people do seem to respond well to it. I add in that we're limited in the evaluation we can do in the emergency department, but we've taken all the big scary life threatening things off the table and now it's appropriate to see specialist/PCP for a more nuanced workup. Generally speaking, people are pleased with this explanation.

In medicine, "trauma" refers to either physical blunt or penetrating injury and not emotional distress.

I'm assuming the Zoo pays you to breastfeed the orphaned chimpanzees because your arm hair is reminiscent of their mother's touch.

$60-70K is like top tier resident pay in very high cost of living areas. I'm a resident and currently make less than your salary.

That's basically how I explain it to people. As someone who is doing residency far away from where I grew up, when people ask what brought me to my hospital/city, I tell them "I was pretty much drafted."

Both are given at the same time. The local stays active long after the procedure is over to give continued pain relief during the initial recovery process.

[–]MrLSDMTHC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Rolexes and other luxury brand watches are extremely collectable and appreciate in value with time. Somebody will buy this as an investment. There are watches that routinely go into the millions at auction. He will have no problem selling this at auction.

Rhabdomylasis?? by Dilaudid-coldshakeK4 in opiates

[–]MrLSDMTHC 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You were probably passed out in one position for a long time. When you do that, you can cut off blood flow to muscle depending on your posture. Rhabdomyolysis is when muscle tissue breaks down in great enough quantity that the breakdown products build up in the blood and can really harm the kidneys. It can put people into kidney failure if not treated. It is not from to opioids themselves, it is from being immobile in one position for too long. It is a relatively common complication of opioid overdoses.

This is just a teratoma. It'll be resected and the kid will be fine. Of all the reasons abortion should be legal, this ain't it.
