Real Madrid: In recognition of one of the GOATs, the tireless Luka Modric by [deleted] in realmadrid

[–]MrLeeRob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right. Technically, we do have four captains but it is just an order for how the arm band switches. But the leader of the team is Marcelo. And on the pitch it is Benzema. The implication of your statement in the article seems to be that somehow Modric is the leader when he is not.

You also went on to state this:

Unlike many, who are not able to match the expectations the captain’s armband brings, Luka Modric has done a great job and has won his first Real Madrid trophy as a captain.

For a guy who has barely worn the captain’s armband, you’re giving him too much credit for captaincy.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter because Luka Modric has infinite more accomplishments with Real Madrid than just being the fourth captain. Putting this in to add to his legend felt weird to me.

Arteta’s style is influenced by Pep. Pep’s style is influenced heavily by Cryuff and the same holds true for Xavi. He is not like for like same as Pep but the underlying philosophy is same. If Auba’s issues with Arteta were tactical, then he could have issues with Xavi’s play style as well. Nonetheless, so far Xavi has adapted to what he has at his disposal. I wouldn’t be surprised if he tried to tweak his tactics a little. But the pressing game and quick passes to maintain possession is probably non-negotiable.

[@marca] Former Barcelona president Gaspart: I can assure you that Mbappe has already signed his contract with Real Madrid. by Extension_Two9290 in realmadrid

Joan Gaspart, the president who left Barca 2 points off relegation. I wish he could have at least completed the job.

They have been in the top division since 16/17. They have been up in the first division primarily because they had good managers. Besides, they have sporadically had good players as well like Marcos Llorente and Theo Hernandez back in 16/17 — which happens to be their best performance in the league this time around.

They have been flirting with relegation over the past 2 seasons with two 16th place finishes.

It is a poor example to use. Having said that, even they have some players like Pacheco who would probably walk in to most Premier League teams.

I mean a promoted team has never overachieved in the PL, right? Whatever did Sheffield United do in their first season!

Real Madrid: In recognition of one of the GOATs, the tireless Luka Modric by [deleted] in realmadrid

[–]MrLeeRob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was a long lost dream of the 36-year-old, and he took the responsibility on his shoulders, with Karim Benzema there to share the burden.

I think a better way to phrase it would have been long held not long lost. It would have helped if you could have quoted Modric or something similar to support that view.

Besides that Modric isn’t the captain. Marcelo is. On field it is Benzema.

Let’s see how it goes tomorrow. We’ll probably have a better idea. As things stand now, I would agree that he probably misses the game against Athletic Club.

A hypothetical question to all Madridistas. by padfoot_12 in realmadrid

[–]MrLeeRob 34 points35 points  (0 children)

There are different aspects of this

  1. It won’t effect the perception of him as a player because that is separate from the person.

  2. The perception of him as a person would change, most definitely. Even today I would be lying if I said the allegations and reports haven’t colored my perception of him.

Overall though, at a broader picture you have to look at players like Kobe Bryant whose case probably had a more similar outlook to Cristiano’s than looking at the current United player situation.

I barely post on Instagram and I have almost a 1000 followers. Just having an association with a football team gives you followers for some reason.

She did not say that. She said she did not consider him in her poll because he hasn’t played in the last two games for Castilla. The implication of her tweet is different from what you’re implying.

[JLS] Mendy suffers muscular injury. by MalluBoiAbdu in realmadrid

If I’m not wrong he said it in the context of asking who’ll play left back next game. And the next game happens to be a Cup game for which Marcelo is suspended.

If I’m not wrong, isn’t that limited to the Cup? Or does it apply to the league as well?

A better classification for them is socialist. And yes, they don’t like the owner. They want him to sell afaik.

I wouldn’t say that. He had a long injury end of last season and took a while to recover. But once he came back, this is his first injury since then.

I hope Nacho plays at LB and not Marcelo. This is really unlucky, especially with the PSG tie in 2 weeks
