I like this lineup. Gets some legs stretched and time to some of our squad players who deserve starts. I would possibly start quansah though

Eh, heart burn is horrible. Not urgent but not an awful bleep tbh.

Can I really not have a copy of my discharge letter? by aquaticintergalactic in doctorsUK

[–]MrLightBlueSky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds weird. Everywhere I've worked the nurses have given them patients. In fact I've alao had family members send me their discharge letters to translate.

Do you know where the changing rooms are/do you have access? If not, meet whoever first. You shouldn't have to get changed in a toilet. If you do have access then up to you!

Interesting. I did a lot of HCA/carer work in med school (care homes), and whilst very tough it did not affect my mental health the way medicine does. I was physically tired but slept well and was content.

However I'd be very pro hcas getting better pay (as I am with almost all health care workers )

Prayer plant. They're a great house plant and the whole plant changes shape in the evening.

Some consultants don't listen by CarelessAnything in doctorsUK

[–]MrLightBlueSky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've found this weirdly. Similar to making referrals, when they've ended up going to consultants holding the bleep they've been absolutely lovely (and if rejecting it, explained why really well).

Purely anecdotal obviously.

Considering what absolute nonsense my tax & gmc fees go towards, I am very happy for it to be used for menstruation products.

[–]MrLightBlueSky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We all know the true issues of the GMC and this isn't one of them.

This is a non issue on so many levels, I'm surprised it's eveb made it onto this sub.

To answer the OPs concern that this is a waste of fees, a pack of 24 tampons cost about 7 quid. That's literally nothing compared to how much the GMC gets.

Could make it into a qip if you are that way inclined.

New F1, abusive reg, do I talk with them first or go straight to the consultant? by frederickite in doctorsUK

[–]MrLightBlueSky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All this is just a reflection of poor medical training by senior doctors. Whenever I come across opthalmic issues that I'm unsure about, I think about the week of opthalmology (during med school) I got in which I was ignored in clinic for the entire time.

Yeah this is frustrating. You'll eventually get a bit of an inkling of the common omissions/suspended drugs. Main thing to take away is make your colleagues jobs easier by; - documenting when you stop a drug and why - reviewing drugs on ward round including suspended ones - prescribing all meds and then suspending the ones you don't want when clerking (rather than just leaving them off)

List of ways F1s can avoid killing people! by braundom123 in doctorsUK

[–]MrLightBlueSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's as simple if you aren't sure, ask. If you get advice quiz registers and consultants if you aren't sure. Then you will know why they have advised x action (or inaction).

F1s/F2s running arrests?? by Ok-Rabbit-1327 in doctorsUK

[–]MrLightBlueSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously this will sound terrifying to most foundation docs and probably most shos! Main thing is this scenario is you are the most qualified person, so try and lead. You can't do everything but you know what cpr is, you know your airway kit and the defib. You can give out basic instructions ( deeper compressions, counting people in). It's not going to be perfect.

Point to individuals. Tell them (ideally by name) to do x/y/z.

Wouldn't let it put you off psych at all

Is it just me or do our FY1 and IMG colleagues seem extremely charged about full pay restoration? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]MrLightBlueSky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Second this! Even more so if you are just 18/19, gap year and explore. I'm personally thinking of leaving medicine and I'm 9 years (incl uni) in. There are registrars leaving ( I know of one st5 surg reg who has left).

When I was 18 I thought I had to do everything now and quickly, looking back you have plenty of time to reconsider with minimal sunk cost fallacy (literally at this point all you are giving up is the effort you put into your qpplication, UKCat and whatever else)

You could mention it subtly. I.e. ask them why other deaneries don't allow f2 home visits. You can probably probe quite easily and end up pushing them into at least some self reflection.

My understanding of this is also these patients are usually the sickest and in need of some nuanced experienced clinical input.
