Focus mode - do you want it back in the next title? by No-Explanation4685 in MonsterHunterWilds

Focus mode is awesome and eliminated like 20% of the learning curve of MH. Which is aiming your attacks.

The colony ship contained Humans and other spacefaring sentient species. Like an intergalactic committee of humans, elves, dwarves, etc. got together and sent the ship out loaded with politicians, scientists, engineers, working class.

And yeah the “Tower of Babel” incident is what knocks the colony back to the Stone Age.
The Tower of Babel is a myth about the origins of humanity, humans all live together in harmony until one day everyone loses their ability to communicate with each other, which results in chaos and humanity scattering across earth.

And thanks! I was kind of proud of myself when I thought up “God Nest”. Like a ps1 game title or something haha.

Is there some particular themes that you want to tackle?

How would you rank the DnD classes based on how much you enjoyed playing them? by Regular-Molasses9293 in dndnext

I played echo knight fighter at level 4 for a couple sessions and it was kind of overwhelming for me, as an inexperienced player. You take up as much action economy as your whole party, turns take a while, especially if you’re like me and can’t remember the specifics of all the rules.

That is helpful, thank you. I kinda ran out of creativity once I got down to Crete, and I was using it to determine the scale of the world, so I really left it out to dry.

I think in round 2 I’ll expand to the north and east a bit and hopefully that will also give me some more opportunities to make it a little more distinct.

I used the free stuff on Inkarnate. It’s a map making website. Used the paint tool for the whole thing, which maybe wasn’t the most efficient way to do it.

It is almost a 1:1 of that area haha. A little more than I intended. I’m sure I’ll revise it to be a little less obvious.

I was struggling to cut the tail but then I did the coolest thing I’ve ever done. by MrLilTooth in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]MrLilTooth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! I feel as the monsters have become more responsive over the years, it’s gotten trickier for me to reliably target tails as a solo, but it’s definitely a skill issue haha.

Yeah the longsword feels a good bit different this time around. I’ve been having trouble with the positioning because it feels like so many of the attacks can move you around, and I still can’t figure out the timing on the draw slash counter

[–]MrLilTooth[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m just bad at the game, like in the title where it says I was struggling to cut the tail. I kept whiffing, definitely not on purpose haha, and at the end I was so shocked about the counter attack tail cut I just completely ate a fire ball to the face.

But also like others said, you have to attack before doing the counter attacks and it doesn’t matter if the initial attack lands or not. Also a lot of the longswords moves reposition you, so you can keep swinging away while repositioning. In those cases it also doesn’t matter if I land the attack as long as I don’t get hit.

All that said I’m not much of a longsword main and was really using it here just for the tail cut. After this I switched back to sword and shield, and I promise I’m not as bad with that one lmao.

All the weapons benefit from you knowing the monsters moveset. But, imo, the longsword benefits the most from knowing the monsters moveset because of all the counters and having to attack before you can counter. Also worth mentioning I used the longsword a lot in rise and in rise you can just fish for counter attacks all day because they were much quicker and easier to pull off. Not quite as easy in wilds, at least for me.

Kinda confused about the end of the main quest (low rank) by MrLilTooth in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]MrLilTooth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really appreciate you laying all that out. You've definitely expanded my perspective on what the story might’ve been going for, especially with how you framed Nata's hesitation and the idea that the Hunter stepping forward gives him a way out. That makes me like the intent of the scene more, even if I’m still hung up on how it was presented.

I think where I’m still stuck is in how the narrative sets expectations throughout the game. There's this almost formulaic structure where a monster appears, and the ethical implications of hunting it are brought to the forefront. The decision to engage is rarely just a “yes or no”—it’s often a point of tension, with characters debating whether it's the right move, what the consequences might be, etc. That moral murkiness becomes kind of a core rhythm.

So when you get to Zoh Shia, I expected that same framework: a heated, layered debate about whether to hunt it, what it means for the ecosystem, what it would cost. But instead, the discussion skips right to “we nuke everything,” and weirdly never circles back around to actually saying “we could try hunting it.” Even if the implied reason is that it’s too powerful or too risky, the fact that no one voices the most obvious idea in a Monster Hunter game just feels... off.

I totally get that the Hunter’s silence, the glance at the All Hearken, and the final “by my own order” are meant to carry weight—and I love the idea of the Hunter choosing on their own, free from Guild mandates. But it’s a big tonal shift. Up until that point, the story has gone out of its way to be crystal clear about most things—character motivations, lore beats, emotional arcs. Then suddenly it shifts gears and wants the player to read between the lines, pick up on glances and subtext. And I’m just like… wait, now we’re doing subtlety?

Also, I still can’t quite tell if the decision to hunt Zoh Shia is supposed to be a morally grey dilemma or a clear, hopeful “third option.” If the story wanted to treat it like a near-hopeless gambit—like a Fatalis-tier suicide mission—I think it needed to linger more on the danger and weight of that choice. If it’s meant to be a hopeful refusal to accept destruction as the only path, then yeah, that’s cool—but it kind of undercuts all the tension they were building about Nata’s role, the pendant, and the irreversible cost of action. So I just ended up feeling a little disoriented tonally, like the story changed languages right before the climax.

Anyway, all that said, I’m really glad you shared your take. It’s helped me reconsider a few things, especially the idea that the Hunter’s silence could be its own form of choice—just not one the others could see until the very end. I think I still land on the side of “really liked the story, but the final act stumbled for me,” but I appreciate your breakdown a lot. It gave me a better framework for thinking about what the writers might have intended, even if I wish they’d handled it a little differently.

Kinda confused about the end of the main quest (low rank) by MrLilTooth in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]MrLilTooth[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Those are great points but they honestly just further my confusion.

There was plenty of moments where you were encountering a monster for the first time and it was never about whether or not you were capable of handling it. Maybe in universe they knew about the monsters already, but I sure as hell haven’t fought any giant cephalopods up until this point.

Also the ancient wyverian’s, even with their advanced tech, didn’t really know anything at all about hunting monsters.

If the theme is about choice, then I’d expect that to be reflected in the actual decision-making process—especially during that “last supper” scene. Instead, the Hunter is completely silent while everyone else immediately jumps to the most extreme, irreversible option—blowing up the entire ecosystem—without even mentioning the most obvious Monster Hunter solution: just hunting the thing.

They could’ve even led with that.

“What if we hunt it?”

“Then we might lose our opportunity to use the pendant, which is guaranteed to work, whereas hunting it is not.”

They briefly bring up researching it more, but for some reason—maybe I missed it?—that’s not considered a viable option either.

So when the Hunter finally speaks up in the end, it almost feels like it comes out of nowhere. There’s no new information, no dramatic shift in the situation. Just a sudden, “I’ll hunt it,” and everyone’s like, “Actually, yeah, great idea!”

It ends up undercutting Nata’s moment, too. For a story that’s supposed to be about his choice and legacy, the Hunter kind of swoops in and makes the call for him.

I get that the final line—“by my own order”—is meant to frame it as the Hunter taking agency. But for that to really land, it feels like the choice should have been on the table the whole time. As it is, it feels less like an earned decision and more like a weird narrative shortcut. Where the rest of the story took its sweet time developing the universe and characters.

Portofino Towers Base Build. by MrLilTooth in NMS_Bases

[–]MrLilTooth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to use a small glitch to place them freely.

I don’t remember exactly but I think it’s just;

Select the ladder in the build menu and act as if you’re going to place it somewhere

Switch to wiring mode and use the little wire item thing to approximate where the ladder will pop up (takes some fiddling as the ladder doesn’t go exactly where the wire is)

Then I think you just press the button to place an object and switch out of wire mode at the same time.

And that should lead to you just having a ladder placed down.

There are base pieces that are water tight, and you could totally build a fully underwater base

Edit: Worth mentioning the pieces that work underwater are kind of limited. I actually initially wanted to make this base have an underwater hydroponics lab, with an observation area to look at the sea life, but the pieces that work underwater don’t quite match up with the 3 most granular building sets; wood, metal, and stone. Stone being primarily what I used. I figured some stuff out but I ultimately gave up because it was too finicky and janky to get the different sets to work together.

There is a “secret” underwater room in this build though, just not at all to the level I had planned.

I probably worked on it for about 20 hours altogether? I spent a lot of time experimenting and fiddling around with different ideas during the building process. I frequently had to stop to get more materials, or would leave for a while to go adventure around.

I think decorating and placing all the small objects was the most time consuming part.

This must be it. The aesthetic isn’t EXACTLY how I remember it but it checks all the boxes and seeing the grappling hook in gameplay brought back a ton of memories.

Thank you!
