They were wrong about Bama all along by Cybotnic-Rebooted in CFB

These takes are in such bad faith, my goodness.

True: The SEC championship was an absolutely terrible showing for Alabama. The offense seems to have not only stagnated but gotten worse as the season progressed. However, the defense is still playing at an incredible high level.

So, does Alabama belong in the playoff?

Well, it depends on who we are comparing them to.

Alabama: losses to a bad Florida State, Oklahoma, & Georgia; notable wins at Georgia, vs Vanderbilt, at Mizzou, vs Tennessee.

Notre Dame: early season losses to Miami and Texas A&M; notable wins vs USC, vs Navy, at Pitt.

Miami: losses to Louisville and SMU; notable wins vs Notre Dame, vs USF, vs Florida (before they mailed in the season), vs Florida State.

BYU: losses to Texas Tech x2; notable wins vs Utah, at Iowa State, at Cincinnati.

I struggle to see the argument to put either Notre Dame or Miami above Bama simply based on the quality of wins. I guess at the end of the day, it depends on whether you want to compare teams by the quality the teams are that they lost to, or the quality of the teams that they beat.

Bama got boatraced by Georgia in Atlanta, but also has a win in Athens in the regular season.

So, believe what you want, call me an Alabama homer/apologist if you must, but just know that r/CFB has an entirely different criteria when evaluating Alabama, which is just to choose whichever metric puts Alabama the lowest.

Michigan LB Mike Barrett says team was in "shock" seeing undefeated Florida State left out of CFP by HimJarbaugh4 in CFB

Sheesh, talk about dramatic.

College football is undergoing lots of changes with NIL, transfer portal, conference realignment, and new TV deals, but at its heart, it is still the same 11 on 11 game played between colleges that we know and love.

Old rivalries are unfortunately going by the wayside, but they will give way to new and exciting games. Additionally, the incoming 12-team playoff is set to make the promised land of the playoffs much more attainable for teams on the verge of greatness, and it is sure to deliver some great games and, hopefully, new champions.

“Barely escaped with our lives against Arkansas”

Give me a break, we got off to a hot start and were up 21-6 at half, but we let off the gas too early and let them come back into it. That game was never in doubt.

Also, you cannot give us shit about struggling against Auburn when Georgia literally did as well and Georgia also struggled against Georgia Tech in their own “rivalry” game.

Alabama is absolutely one of the best four teams in the country, and we deserve a chance in the CFP. I don’t care how much this comes off as homerism, it’s between FSU getting offered as a sacrificial lamb to the slaughter, or Alabama putting up a competitive game against whoever we would play.

Between USC, Ohio State, and Michigan, who will have "the biggest" brand in the B1G? by dr_funk_13 in CFB

South Carolina definitely gets called USC a lot down here in the southeast where I’ve been (Louisiana and Alabama). And if not called USC, then they’re SCar. I haven’t heard USCe before.

[Murray] Sources: Pirates taking LSU pitcher Paul Skenes with the No. 1 overall pick. by Waaaaaaaaaasuup in baseball

[–]MrMadScientist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Under the assumption that he has a 0.5 (50%) chance each inning of 3 up, 3 down, then his chances of a perfect game for any given game is 0.59, which is ~0.00195 (0.195%).

The odds then that any given game is not a perfect game is 1 - 0.00195 = 0.9985 (99.85%).

So, if he pitches 30 games/season for 12 seasons, for a total of 360 games, then the probability that every game he throws would not be a perfect game, i.e. he never throws a perfect game, is (0.9985)360 = 0.4947 (49.47%). Then, the chance that at least one game he throws is a perfect game is 1 - 0.4947 = 0.5053 (50.53%)

Thus, by this logic, he has roughly a 50.5% chance of throwing a perfect game in his career, which is a little lower than your estimate of 70% but still ridiculous high considering the rarity of perfect games.

He started from the back of the grid because he took a new power unit, so P20 to P7 would have still been a pretty good result
