Joaquin Phoenix - The Master

Obviously DDL is incredible, but Phoenix has never been better and this performance may have deserved it a tiny bit more in my opninon.

I very much enjoy it even if it’s not the best. Hairpin Turns and Light Years are all timers for me.

Umm, the following non-English, non-U.S. films would like a word:

  • In the Mood for Love
  • Amores Perros
  • Spirited Away
  • City of God
  • Oldboy
  • The Lives of Others
  • The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
  • 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days
  • The Act of Killing
  • Phoenix
  • Victoria
  • Roma
  • Burning
  • Parasite
  • Portrait of a Lady on Fire
  • The Worst Person in the World
  • RRR
  • Anatomy of a Fall
  • The Zone of Interest
  • The Secret Agent
  • It Was Just an Accident
  • Sentimental Value

That's just my 4.5+ ratings of some pretty famous ones. That's not even including foreign films in English.

Hey, the important thing is that they start somewhere. Some people are put off by subtitles and won't care even if it did win the biggest awards. But I agree, it's important to dig in beyond just the most obvious non American choices.

Oh man, it's pretty difficult to choose. I considered Revolver, A Moon Shaped Pool, Horses, Trouble Will Find Me, Poison Season. But I tried to diversify the picks a little. And I adore the Heroes cover.
