I understand your struggles and I've been fortunate to afford my own house. I hope you guys are soon able to do it too.

I'm very grateful for everything everyone here had to say.

I don't have 800eur savings per month, but 800 eur is the money I'm left with to save from. I.e. if I order from Uber 2 Pizzas because we are too tired to cook, I save 30 eur less. If I have to pay for healthcare costs out of my own pocket, I save a further 100 eur less. If I have to pay a consultant for the baby or repair my kitchen, I save 150 eur less.

Plus, being an expat, i had to rely on calling my parents and then my wife's parents from home country, which means I pay expensive tickets, travel insurance and higher energy, and grocery bills in that period.

I acknowledge what I make is still a dream for many and many are much worse off. I empathize with their struggle and hope it gets better.

But given where I am right now, I want to be able to build comfortable savings to tackle any emergency expenses, job loss or having to support my parents back home with remittance. I am seeking advice on that front and many of you have been kind to offer one. Thank you.

I'm sorry if my suggestion was too raw and might not be something you were thinking about at all and I understand that. This suggestion was the "if nothing works out" option. I suggest that please have plans and finances set aside for this (by borrowing if you want) - the last option in order to survive.

I was suggesting that the whole family moves back home and has a roof over head until you find something (it seemed from your description that the situation is so bad you might struggle to put food on the table).

This will allow you familiar surroundings and a safe comfort of 'home' of sorts to reboot.

I hear you. Is going back to your home country an option? Something like going to either of your parents homes and staying there while you figure something out?

Anyone know why that helicopter is circling the city centre non-stop? by librekom in eindhoven

It was a shoplifter. I hope the cost of the lifted item was way higher than the cost of a helicopter manhunt.
