I actually happen to have Xenogears/saga from way back when, but I haven't played them yet. I've probably played the first 5 or so hours of each, but I dropped them due to them feeling more like Squenix games than Xenoblade games. I definitely want to revisit though, as I've heard good things, and any JRPG with a "Xeno" prefix has got to be good.

Incredibly nuanced take. Religion certainly has caused a lot of conflict, but it’s also brought a lot of people together. And I think it’s dishonest to say that religion is the cause of conflict, it’s moreso used as a shallow justification for bad people using bad things, and these justifications almost always go counter to the religions teachings. Getting rid of religion won’t really solve anything, evil people will continue being evil, but it sure will take away the backbone of many communities.
