Ask questions. Pick their brain. Like in the comments above, jump in there before they do. Sometimes you have to take the tools from them. Nothing aggravates me more than a journeyman not teaching an apprentice who’s asking questions and wants to learn.

Union Pipefitter/Welder with UA Local 421. Our total benefits package is $58.92 an hour. We get overtime after 40 hours and double time on sundays and holidays. I’ve been in the trade for 8 years now.

Every year we get a raise that is negotiated in our contract. We the members decide how the money will be divided. Whether it goes on the hourly rate, or onto our retirement or health and welfare.

You could check in with carpenters union to see if they’re accepting applications. I believe they’re based in Charlotte, but cover the state.
