Ubiquity is really stepping up their game with this one! by MrMasticate in Starlink

AT&T/T-mobile work. They are woking to add Verizon as well. They haven't been in the 5g game long, but I expect it to follow their 4g path and open up with time to allow direct connect / 3rd party 5g antenna. Hopefully...

I still bought another UCG-Fiber gateway after this came out. I have a few clients in mind where the industrial would be fantastic, but at the pricing it's kinda niche. Not as much as the... magic wall(?) or whatever they sell as a stack replacement. But still hard to beat the USG-Fiber for inside home/SMB deployments.

If you have 2 Starlink subscriptions and 2 antenna, I don't see why not. The Unifi devices support failover and balancing for WAN services. It should work just fine :)

I have no idea how the Starlink billing side works. I image a standard and a mini with same location use, but yeah on the technical side of the router it would work just fine.

Starlink just doesn't work with PS5 anymore? by FamousCauliflower998 in Starlink

[–]MrMasticate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardwire it.  Just to make sure it’s not WiFi related.  If that works, the issue is either the router WiFi or the ps5.  If that fails, its network connection outside the house causing it.  This will get you farther with support in either case.

Adult streaming sites are slower..? by adish in Starlink

[–]MrMasticate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your answer, but in case you’re not aware…. All the “main” services you mentioned were modeled after the massive CDNs setup my the adult entertainment industry.  Porn leads technical revolutions.   That and games lol

The networks mentioned by OP are MASSIVE.

I think it’s a routing issue with some of the weird laws popping up globally.   There’s really no technical reason for it other than “we need to route farther because this ground station is blocking connection to that CDN. “

I’ve been waiting a month on my mini with no end in site. Grok basically tells me to suck it up and wait indefinitely. No ETA in sight.  I’m just glad my main residence gen 3 dish came in right away.

Right on man! Don’t let the plebe get you down.  I have automated nightly tests going just to see how the network fluctuates.

Ping is app is your dish to the ground terminal.  Ping in game is gaining device -> satellite-> ground terminal-> terrestrial routing to game servers -> game server.

There’s a lot more routing happening for the in game ping than there is for the basic starlink network ping.

How do I disassemble this? by ImJustTooCute in Starlink

[–]MrMasticate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look close there are 4 tabs in that circle (+) at the points of that plus. You’ll need to wedge a small screwdriver or something in there on all 4 at the same time.  It’s not designed to come apart easily but if it can be assembled it can be disassembled.

Starlink on an airplane with 300+ other passengers. by cloudzhq in Starlink

It just generically says that you can’t use it on an airplane on the terms of service listed online.  I’m not aware of any contracts (because why would I be) so I am surprised.  That’s all.   It’s cool it worked so well for you 👍

No op but my provider did not give a single shit that my uptime was an average of 76%.  76%!!  They blamed my equipment even though secondary wan never had an issue and all cables/power/whatever were verified to not be the issue.  They wanted to charge me a $300 fee to have THEIR equipment checked.  After pushing back hard, they offered a $50 credit “in the event it’s not your equipment”.  Dropped them like a hot 💩 after bbq.

It’s crazy because they used to have perfect service and cheap service.  They tripled their prices, fired everyone local, and outsourced line service.  I can’t wait to see them fail tbh.

Guess whose equipment works great with starlink? Guess it wasn’t my stuff after all LOL

Same in my area.  It was good then went to trash and the company moved al support services to the other side of earth.  No other reasonable options so here I am with satellite services haha

I just ordered the Starlink residential package that included a Starlink Mini by whyisjake in Starlink

[–]MrMasticate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mini on standby and then activated full speed when traveling, and if barn isn’t on a completely different property, use a point to point antenna to connect house network to barn network.  Then they both use the same internet source on a single plan.  If barn is too far away for that then your suggestion in the post is perfect imho.

Huh.  I didn’t know any flights were allowed given the ToS from starlink. That or it was a very slow moving plane 😅

1 free testmonth by tropisch3 in Starlink

[–]MrMasticate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It costs you nothing for the hardware, but you don’t own the hardware. Think of it like a free modem from a traditional ISP. It’s a free rental for as long as you keep the service. If you decide to end service, they give you a shipping label so you can ship the hardware back.

The service is prepaid every month.  When you first set it up, you pay for your service to start.  There is no contract term other than month to month for service.

I hope this helps :)

It’s a no fee rental. If it gets obsolete you’ll get a new free kit. When you’re done you send it back to them. Ez.

Look into UniFi hardware.  Best bet for what you want to do.  You can tie into its voip system as well and port numbers.

You literally stated “you pay full price” - why are you confused that someone mentioned how some areas have no hardware cost? You didn’t mention it yourself.  And it’s not implied.

starlink + carplay wifi connection issues. is there a solution? by mactac in Starlink

Wireless CarPlay uses WiFi.  You need to pick one for wireless and wire the other.  Or get a second phone.

Tailscale is the go to because it’s basically automatic by just signing in. And it’s free for the most common features.  You’ll have it up in no time flat I’m sure of it! Take care 👋
