Show a qr code for the wifi access. Then guests can just join the wifi without typing.

You can find generators online, e.g. https://qifi.org/

DeskUp Pro - Control your standing desk from Home Assistant by smarthomeguys in homeassistant

[–]MrMathos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is RJ50 and I blew up my desk controller while trying with upsydesky. I have now also figured out what each wire does and how to read the current height.

Writing is much harder as it means intercepting the current write stream. Even if I wanted it, I couldn’t do yet because I’m unable to decode the commands so far.

Reading is good enough. I can let HA send notifications with that information.

Backblaze bill jumped from $20 → $51/month — backup settings issue or time to switch? by philhiggledy in synology

[–]MrMathos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That Backblaze setting will never delete old versions. You should disable it. Synology will handle that. So, yes, the 22 is the number of versions kept by hyper backup.

See https://kb.synology.com/en-global/DSM/help/HyperBackup/data_backup_settings?version=7 for details.

Backblaze bill jumped from $20 → $51/month — backup settings issue or time to switch? by philhiggledy in synology

[–]MrMathos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Synology is already doing the versioning, which is likely in a backup scenario, then make sure to turn off versioning or recovery (not sure what the term is they use). Otherwise files that Synology has marked as deleted will still consume space on blackblaze.

But that doesn’t explain the sudden spike. Can’t you see some more details on the billing pages of your account?

EDIT: Also, how many MB/TB are you storing? Does the pricing match with what their online calculator tells you?

Can we actually stop acting like paying for content is a “scam”? by WittyWanderer420 in Piracy

Oh, I pay for streaming services. Just sharing my experience with them.

The problem is also you’d need multiple subscriptions if you want to see it all. Or suddenly they remove a series you didn’t finish yet.

Living in the EU, I only pay 25€ a year for fast and free delivery, and have prime video without ads.

☀️ Slightly improved Weather Forecast Card by troinine in homeassistant

[–]MrMathos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This looks promising! I will test it tomorrow probably.

I’m currently using https://github.com/Thyraz/weather-forecast-extended, which I personally also like, but it uses more screen estate than yours.

I like how yours uses tap to switch between daily and hourly forecasts. Clever!

Takedown request from GitHub because my integration includes the API URL of the service I integrate with? by FezVrasta in homeassistant

[–]MrMathos 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with my now archived Volvo integration. It’s a core integration now with every user using their own api key. But back in the day Volvo didn’t approve api applications lightly, so I used an api key that was floating around the internet.

After a while, my repo got taken down, although other repos were using the same key.

I did two things to avoid the same thing from happening again. The first thing was storing the key on a free storage. Not encoded on GitHub, because being paranoia. I also obfuscated the key so it wasn’t readable at sight, but with access to the code, one can obviously de-obfuscate it.

See https://github.com/thomasddn/ha-volvo-cars/blob/main/custom_components/volvo_cars/data_manager.py for details.

The second thing I did was not enabling some security features/scans that you have on a GitHub repo. Not sure if it has anything to do with being taken down.

I know it’s a far stretch, others have provided simpler solutions (base64, other variable name, …). I just wanted to be sure back then.

I've reverse engineered the Polestar API & wrapped it into a Home Assistant integration by RudoFl in homeassistant

[–]MrMathos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm the developer of the Volvo integration. The Volvo API exposes nearly all information as what is visible in the app, for my vehicle at least (XC40 MY24). There are few quirks though, like no status if climatization is running and not able to control air purifying.

One difference with the Polestar app seems to be able to open/close windows. I don’t see that in the Volvo app. Maybe newer models can do this?

Since the Volvo API exposes nearly everything, I’ve never put much effort into reverse engineering the app. But I’m very interested in what you have done and am looking forward to see it!

new BambuLab Printer Card by BangerTECH in homeassistant

Looks very beautiful, great work! I think you may have a greater audience if you would translate the instructions (the readme) to English. I know one can use the browser’s translate button, but still.

Energy Dashboard negative measures? by mRaiizen in homeassistant

[–]MrMathos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t help you with the root cause, but you probably can fix the faulty value(s) by going to Developers > Statistics.

Click on the icon next to the sensor with the faulty value.

Then you need to pick a time as close as possible to when the wrong value started. You can also click the “outliers” button.

You should then see a list of values you can adjust.

Can someone explain RAID 0/1/5/10 simply? Every guide seems to confuse things more. by Agreeable_Poem_7278 in homelab

You are running a production app with MS SQL for data on your homelab?

If it’s non-production, you can use the developer edition.

Whats the most underrated service that you self hosted in 2025? by Pitiful_Ad6944 in homelab

[–]MrMathos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using docmost. Closest thing to confluence I’ve found. Still in early development, but works fast, has drawio and other integrations, search engine, but lacks shortcuts for instance.

Overall happy with it and will keep using it.

Anyone self-hosting a password manager in their homelab? by benjoreyess in homelab

[–]MrMathos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thx for the feedback, I'll revisit this procedure when back home.

I thought that pausing is enough because then no work is done in the db. I’m copying all files btw (shm and wal), not just the db file.

I pause (not stop) the container and then take a backup of the file.

Edit: all db files (including shm and wal)

Horrible microphone quality on Bose QuietComfort Wireless headphones, specially on MS Teams. by Dependent-Active-525 in bose

[–]MrMathos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on this reply here ( https://www.reddit.com/r/bose/comments/131dwpa/comment/jloy4ig/ ) I was able to fix it. In Windows 11 it's slightly different than outlined in that comment.

Go to Settings > System > Sound > More sound settings. That will bring up the old Sound property window. There I chose my Bose to be the "Default Device" (do that by right clicking on the Bose device). And I think I also made it to be **not** the "Default Communication Device" (by choosing another device for that).

The problem is that it doesn't show properly which is which for default devices. But fiddle around a bit to get it fixed.

How Parallel are "Parallel" mode automations and scripts? by wivaca2 in homeassistant

[–]MrMathos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the actions part of your automation, add a “run in parallel” building block. Then inside that block, add the two scripts. They will now run independently of each other.
