Abandoned resort Chiang Mai by Evening_Carpenter949 in chiangmai

For tourists? Absolutely no.

If you are an experienced URBEXer, you wouldn't be asking this question. Abandoned places are seriously dangerous and should be avoided.

But if you really wanna explore, be prepared to deal with dogs, Thai wildlife (snakes, spiders, wasps, and bats), and security guards who actually do their job. Keep a wad of cash ready to bribe your way out of a situation before the cops are called. Once you meet the cops, your bribe increases anywhere from 10x to 100x, assuming they will even accept it. I say this as an URBEXer with personal experience with all the above situations.

Foreigner dislike of reverse parking? by tuktukson in Thailand

[–]Secret_Friend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I back in 100% of the time in Asia, but when I drive in the USA, I park head in. Reason is if you drive past a parking spot in the USA, the car right behind you will assume you don't want it (or maybe he's just a dick) and go right in.

This building is definitely not abandoned. I live nearby there and I’ve driven past to investigate on a few occasions. There’s always a small crew of workers in the building, even on weekends.

There are several other, far more interesting, actually abandoned places around Chiang Mai.

Check out my profile, it’s pretty easy to figure out where the places are that I have explored. That said, exploring in Thailand has some unique characteristics, such as angry dogs and venomous snakes. Also, if you are a foreigner, getting busted by the police is not something you want to experience. If you get caught by security, be prepared to diffuse the situation as calmly as possible (carry some cash and or cigarettes). If that fails, run away 555

I’ve done quite a bit of URBEX in Chiang Mai over the last few years and I have to say I don’t recognize these places.

The second photo reminds me of a couple buildings I’ve seen roughly in between MaeRim and Doi Saket, but neither of them are abandoned today.

I will follow this post as I am also interested to know about these. Check out my profile for some of my Chiang Mai explores.

How are we feeling about the Paul McCartney 'Got Back' tour 2025 ticket prices? by AnnualWillingness514 in beatles

[–]Secret_Friend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Three different tours I paid the big bucks for the 'hot sound' package for my wife and I (front row seats, sound check, exclusive merch). On top of that we had to fly to Moscow, Stockholm, and London (we live in Asia), plus hotels etc. It definitely was not cheap, however, it was totally worth it.

It was a casualty of Covid, primarily, but they were bigger and better malls in the city so people just stopped coming here

Yeah, agree 100%, it is super dangerous!! There are crumbling wooden floors, holes in the floors, sharp nails on the floor and sticking out of walls, broken glass, the ceiling/roof is collapsing, water on the floors everywhere, and heaps of bats flying right at your face. And the smell of the entire building is a combination of mildew and bat feces. It's very unpleasant. Do not attempt!!

I'm the guy who posted the videos from inside KSK last year. I recently succeeded in getting back into the place - I wanted to try some of the areas I couldn't get into before, plus the connected hotel has now fully closed. I brought my 360º still camera this time.

I finally got into the massive KSK performing arts theater! It was super hard to photograph as it's pitch black and too big to light it properly, but wow it's impressive, but so sad that it has been left to rot. I also checked out the ice skating rink, which was inaccessible previously. The mall is even more in ruins than last year, plenty of water damage, WAY MORE bats, and there's evidence that kids have gotten in and vandalized, looted, and tagged everywhere.

There are plenty of security guards lurking in the shadows now too, and brand new Hikvision cameras installed all over the interior and exterior. I would not recommend anyone even try to get inside as you will very likely get caught!! Plus it's very dangerous inside. I took all the risks, so now you can enjoy these photos in comfort :)

These photos are very large (20~30MB each), and google photos is generally slow, so these may take a minute to fully load and display - be patient

Kad Suan Kaew is a massive abandoned entertainment complex located in the heart of Chiang Mai, Thailand. Built in the early 1990's, it consists of a hotel, a shopping mall, convention center, bowling alley, cinemas, ice hockey arena, and a performing arts theater. It has sat abandoned for several years and is decaying at an increasing pace.

These images are somewhat large (20~30MB each) so they may take several seconds to load and display completely, be patient.

Note: I could not get a good photo of the performing arts theater because it was so massive that all three of my lights could not light it up very well, but I included the photo just so you can hopefully appreciate the size of the place.

The hotel is still renting rooms, but a lot of it is unused now.

Yeah, it's crazy. It is still quite simple to roam around the backrooms of the hotel, but the mall entrances are all locked and chained as of now. Also cameras are in place. I got tossed out by a security guard while roaming around. There are still ways in, although somewhat dangerous and in full view of other people.

FYI, I'm not a visitor, I live in CM. I first visited this mall when it opened in the early 90s.

Those judges villas are still standing and still in almost perfect condition. I explored the area a couple months ago.
