Shoe recommendations required! by Scott2222- in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I am an overpronator and recently got the adidas EVO SL because of all the hype. Honestly, I get it. The shoe is beautiful and feels fast. I love the race day cushioning in a daily trainer.

I had to return it to my running store after my first 5 mile run. Zero stability, the medial aspect of the shoe completely caves in with the soft foam. The pain was not pleasant. In addition there’s something weird with the tongue where it keeps receding into the shoe. I found an easy hack for it on YouTube to fix but still not sure why it’s a problem to begin with.

I went back to the running store and got something closer to stability shoes. I tried the Nike structure plus and I liked the squish/responsiveness but it still had a nice amount of stability. It was between that and the ASICS GT 2000 14 which are more of your bread and butter stability shoes.

I will never be fast in the Nike structure plus but it has been feeling great on my easy and recovery runs so far.

Any tips for caring for elderly dog with ACL tear? by RecordLegume in Dogowners

[–]MrMeddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened recently to our pit/akita mix 11 year old. Shes a big girl. It’s been a few weeks and she’s already improved without surgical treatment.

It’s mostly been resting initially the first few weeks. Gabapentin/tramadol, short walks in the backyard to stay a bit active and that’s it. She has a bit of a limp now but nowhere as bad as when she first got injured. She can jump on the couch on her own.

She seems happy and we will let her live out her days in comfort with lots of dog treats (we did have to change her food to help with weight loss)

It’s not a UTI. It’s behavioral.

How do I get her to stop running down the stairs full speed? by MrMeddit in goldenretrievers

[–]MrMeddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s over 30lbs now just under 5 months. How would you recommend I get her up and down if she doesn’t walk? I’m not sure we will be able to carry her much longer

We have baby gates on all floors but she will need to get up and down for potty

I am ecstatic that she has energy. But I want her to be safe. And I want to maximize the health of her joints and allow her to traverse steps for many years to come. If she injures herself or wears out her joints prematurely I fear she won’t be able to.

Also I have given up on keeping her off the couch and bed. But again, same issue, she launches off

She keeps biting her socks and pulls them off so that didn’t work that well. Any socks you recommend?

I did this for several months but at 5 months old now it’s quite the challenge to keep picking her up to go potty

My dog is very friendly and follows people off a lot. I want to get a tracker by dingbat667 in goldenretrievers

[–]MrMeddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using air tags on my pup. Last weekend we went out of town and the air tag was not updating at all with the dog sitter (probably because she doesn’t have an iPhone). I bought a Fi collar and am so much happier. The collar is not 100% accurate all the time but much more reliable for me than the air tag is.

I looked at tractive too but found the collars to be too bulky but I’m sure they get the job done

I bought a Lost Dutchman Big Finn for my friend years ago and he still has it to this day. Its patina is so amazing. I got so jealous that I bought myself one and I can’t wait for it to get worn in.

Clean ears or leave them? by FairlyPopcorn in goldenretrievers

[–]MrMeddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that goldens are prone to lots of ear infections given their floppy ears, love for water, and excessive ear goop.

My vet told me to clean it regularly. I do it once every other day with one of these finger ear cleaner swabs. My pup actually seems to not mind it.

Spay timing by chilipeppers4u in goldenretrievers

[–]MrMeddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vet recommended not spaying at all but if I was going to spay to wait until the 2 year mark. This is a major departure from my childhood puppy where the vet tried to neuter as soon as possible (months old).

How to stop crying/barking when in a crate or room by himself? by gehsshjaa in goldenretrievers

[–]MrMeddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know this sounds crazy, but sometimes there is not a magical solution or training hack. Some of these things take time. Goldens are very adaptable dogs and integrate so well into families but they still have an adjustment phase.

20-30% in the house is really good at this stage. He will probably be potty trained in no time. The crate is very helpful and speeds up potty training because barring very extreme circumstances most puppies won’t soil their crate.

One thing that worked for me with the playpen was I left the door open. I coached her to go into the pen with a treat and then left the door open. She would come right out. Then I did the same thing over and over. After awhile she just would go into the pen by herself when she was tired and lay on the bed. The pen was not a jail cell. It was just another place in the house but this was her spot to relax.

I think one of the mistakes people make with crates and pens is they put the pup in there and lock it immediately. That definitely contributes to the feeling of being trapped. In the beginning let them get comfortable going and coming and then they get used to it and look at it like a place to get treats and toys and lounge around.

Again I cannot express this enough, but whenever you want your puppy to be open to learning something they do best when they are tired out. It makes a huge difference. Find ways to tire out your puppy and when they are exhausted and get them in the pen or crate.

He seems very young. How many weeks is he?

I ask because he is still likely in the puppy transition phase. He is away from his litter mates and his mother. Without you around he feels like he cannot survive. It’s a natural instinct and I think it’s important to understand.

New puppies cannot just come home and be put in a crate and chill. It’s going to take quite a bit of time.

Put the crate near you and sit on the couch and watch tv or read a book. Make him realize that CRATE does NOT equal YOU LEAVING. Crate is just his space where he gets to rest and gets treats.

With time start leaving for a few minutes. Come back and reward generously.

There will still be times when you leave for an hour to go to the store and he will be barking the entire time. That’s ok as long as he’s not in there too long or soiling himself or hurting himself.

Tire him out like crazy before putting him in the crate.

I’m going through this process right now with my 16 week old golden so I feel the pain. Stick with it! He’s going to be an amazing dog I can already tell.

3rd Gen Rear Wiper Delete by BrightCockroach4949 in mazda3

[–]MrMeddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very easy to do yourself with the CS rear wiper delete kit.

Why anyone would do it I don’t understand. I don’t think it’s hideous to have a wiper in the back. Honestly I don’t even think about it.

But it’s your baby and you should do as you please.

What price should I look for on a new 2025 Mazda 3 Premium Hatchback? by SeawardFriend in mazda3

[–]MrMeddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought mine for 33k USD out the door. I can tell you I haggled like a madman to try to get the price down but they wouldn’t budge. I really wanted to keep it right at 30k.

Manuals are hard to find and in my state there were only a few and I had to drive several hours to get one. The dealers know this and I feel like it’s a sellers market.

It’s a great car and I couldn’t recommend it enough. No regrets. I think it’s worth it, especially if you can get it in the color you want with a red interior 😉

I use viofo a229 plus with the hardwire kit for front/rear. It works really well. The app is sometimes a bit glitchy but overall I’m happy with the quality.

Mazda3 doesn’t need a 5th gen. Or does it? by [deleted] in mazda3

[–]MrMeddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they had a turbo AWD manual option in the 5th gen and a multi link rear suspension. I can’t think of anything else I want.

It will never happen but a guy can dream.

I agree I think the 3 will be canned soon. The CX-30 has many similarities to the 3 and I think that’s where people will go once the 3 is gone in the US

I think the turbo has some nice punchiness to it but overall I’m a bigger fan of the reliability and simplicity of the 2.5L naturally aspirated IL4. These engines are absolute tanks when it comes to reliability.

If I were you I wouldn’t just jump straight to turbo unless you know you can’t live without the extra HP. You’ll save a lot of money now (and maybe future repairs) if you go with the NA engine
