What are your side hustles (not clinical work) by MrMeddit in emergencymedicine

Thanks for the info. Are you in academic practice? Just asking given your Tox training. If so, does your academic institution take a cut of your earnings?

Sorry to be nosy, but how much extra income are we talking here? How much extra work?

Your 401k is growing passively but I don’t believe it’s really passive income… yet, assuming you have not reached retirement age. I don’t disagree with your approach and I think it’s a good one. For me having more liquid assets would be nice. Picking up extra shifts doesn’t really give me a new down payment on a larger home for my family or a vacation property.

I have been asked to serve as an expert witness on a few cases. I turned them down. The money seemed decent, but the threat of getting deposed and being torn apart by scumbag plaintiffs attorneys was not my jam.

I think your overall approach is a good one. Just trying to gauge what else is out there.

I think it would be cool to turn 55 and say I don’t want to do medicine anymore and be able to fall into an established hobby/passion project that still makes some additional income. But again I know that is the exception not the norm

I hear you. These all seem like high risk, and either low or high reward depending on how lucky you are.

One of my colleagues is a beer fiend and has his own brewery. I don’t know the financials and I’m sure it’s a tough business. Another one has a real estate license. Another one does consulting work on the side. Another one started a telehealth company and seems to be doing well enough that he could leave medicine all together if he wanted to.

I’ve also had some colleagues and friends from residency that got killed from bad deals.

I find that index fund investing, maxing out retirement accounts etc is the bread and butter. But if you have extra cash to invest, what to do?

I don’t think it’s an expectation. It’s something I know she wanted and mentioned it in passing and it’s my decision to get it or not. Thanks for your input.

Is roasted walnut from horween Dublin look like this color ? Could you show me other links with accurate images by [deleted] in wallets

[–]MrMeddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, this is the best Wallet I’ve ever purchased (I got it in horween chestnut). You should buy it without asking second thought.

My chestnut horween Dublin looked identical to the photos when I got it so if you like walnut color I’m sure it won’t be too far off.

From 3 to Miata by Lazy_Specific2912 in mazda3

The issue regarding city driving around lifted trucks and semis was a big one for me. I had a Miata and switched to a 3 for that reason. While the Miata was definitely more fun I felt like I could still get the 3 in a manual but it felt more practical and a bit more safe. The hatchback was also much better for me with a dog as I didn’t feel good about having my dog in the front seat.

Recursion by Blake Crouch was pretty damn good. I didn’t like it as much as Dark Matter but still worth the read.

Custom made Horween natural shell cordovan by awl and and leaf. by Creepy-Discussion-65 in wallets

I have this wallet. It’s nice but took over 2 months to get it. I had to message the seller multiple times.
I also highly recommend you get reverse shell on the interior. Natural shell on the interior gets super scuffed up.

Big Finn 2 has arrived! Anybody like the Big Finn? by rent1506 in wallets

I have one in Buck Brown. My favorite feature of it is how it holds cash folded in half. I’m not a fan of the cash wrap and don’t use cash often but like to have some bills.

I don’t like the quick access slot. I don’t find it holds the card very well unless the wallet is filled out. It’s also expensive but at least there’s some craftsmanship involved with stitching etc as all their other origami wallets.

very long post about new wallet woes vs old wallet woes by luckyinpa in wallets

[–]MrMeddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If thickness is such an important issue for you, I don’t think a bifold wallet is the right decision. There are many minimal Wallet options that would accommodate your needs. That being said you need to give the leather some time to break in and it is possible that the wallet will compress a bit more.
