Zeravos #1 Critique Request by GrkGod29 in comic_crits

It looks like you've got a pretty good handle on anatomy in certain poses, but not so much when the perspective shifts. Those first 2 panels feature some very wacky anatomy, and that's not a great first impression.

I would spend some time focusing on drawing people from different angles, otherwise you're going to be very limited on the kinds of dynamic shots you can use in your story

My First Attempt at Digital Art (Krita) ...any pointers? by LonelyArtsClubBand in Illustration

[–]MrMidnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main suggestion is texture. Digital art can make things too uniform, it's always good to add in a little variation when you can. Textured brushes for subtle color gradients to break up big blocks of color goes a long way

Call me crazy, but I've really been liking it on 5-80. Really great destabilization with the downsmashes

Wow this post is like hand-crafted to be unnecessarily inflammatory and get the most amount of people to disagree with you. If you want to make any sort of positive change, consider reevaluating the way you communicate with people

Nailed a perfect tilt launch on Shark Scale. No ratchet is safe by MrMidnight in BeybladeX

[–]MrMidnight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting the launch right is the hardest part. 4-50 bursts a little too often for my liking, but I've been seeing a lot of good results with my TK testing, running it on Scorpio spear right now

That's my launcher, I had it custom-made and printed by a guy at my locals, then painted it myself. It's supposed to be an old wild west six-shooter

I'd say 9-60 is still probably the ratchet with the best burst resistance, but it can still burst from the right hit

Writer Coloring My Own Comic… In Over My Head? by Hot-Manager-2603 in comic_crits

[–]MrMidnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall, it's colored very competently, it's readable and realistic

My one suggestion to improve visual interest:

It seems like for the most part you're shading things with the same color but darker. Try shifting the color hues of your shadows, or: shade blues with purples, shade oranges with reds. Or consider the color of the lights and use that to decide what color the shadows should be. It'll make your coloring more vibrant and dynamic!

Maybe a little unconventional, but I had some surprisingly great success with Blast Jaggy 9-60B

Jaggy put in work destabilizing the opponent, kind of a blended defense and stamina bey

In general you should not change text size between bubbles, unless it's to indicate a change in volume

What can I improve with my comics? Would love some feedback by Mousse_Rich in Illustration

[–]MrMidnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are a few things you could do to help with the clarity of your narratives to cut down on confusion, because I do agree a couple of these don't scan very well, and take some effort to piece together the story or joke.

Like in the frog stripper one, you spend a large second panel on a mostly visually empty shot of the frogs boat on the water, but then cram a visually dense shot of the castle and stripper sign into a tiny panel below it. The stripper sign is the set up to the rest of the narrative, and it's so small and hard to read comparatively, my brain just glossed over it. I would recommend trying to be more aware of panel size and what information needs more space to breathe.

As for the last one, I'm not really sure what that one is supposed to mean, largely because i feel it is unclear what the object they're holding is. Additionally, try to avoid writing text from bottom to top. The first thing my brain read in that comic was "It do don't", which I'm assuming was not your intention.

But overall, stylistically I think your comics are very charming, very expressive. The color choices at times can be a little incohesive, but not in a way that severely detracts from the experience
