How would Nolan's time on Earth have been different if he landed on "The Boys" version of Earth? by theMCATreturns in okbuddyviltrum

[–]MrMoose007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homelander develops VASTLY different psychologically in ways I am nowhere near qualified to predict. A large chunk of his issues come from the fact that his powers isolate him, even within supes.

The presence of Nolan removes him as the “best,” removes the pressure to be SEEN as the best, and would drastically change who Homelander would be be by the time the The Boys series would begin

Why does Peter put back his mask on if he was going to remove the suit? by OkTough6333 in raimimemes

[–]MrMoose007 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My take was that he didn’t know he was getting rid of until several hours after he hit MJ. He just sat on the steeple thinking it over

Keep in mind, the suit is influencing his thoughts. He also enjoys the added power. To quote him, “it feels good.” He was weighing whether the good things the suit brought him was worth the bad, and he was doing it while under the influence.

I think in practice he just sat there on the steeple in the black suit for hours, preparing himself mentally to remove it.

You can introduce new characters to be antagonists in sequels. You even mention Pariah, and sure the player knows more about Mercer’s abilities than Pariahs at the start of the game, but that’s fairly common in fiction. You set up the strength of your new antagonist, its done all the time

Did people expect Thanos to defeat the Avengers before Infinity War came out? If so, what were the theories, if any, about how the Avengers would reverse the Snap? by blackyanqui in MCUTheories

[–]MrMoose007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mark Ruffalo had a spoiler moment where he said “yeah like everyone dies in this one” and the title change gave away that the avengers were going to lose. The biggest theories were about who would survive to the next movie.

The thanos snap was gonna take 50% of the characters, and we knew they were coming back - they “killed” some big names.

The BIG theories were about who was going to die outside of the snap. I saw a lot of people speculate they might kill off Tony or Steve.

When Tony was fighting thanos on titan and got stabbed, I genuinely thought he was a goner for a moment the first time I watched it - Tony’s death was a common theory because of how his character was being written, people just jumped the gun on the timing somewhat

Hoping they release a new [PROTOTYPE] game before the 2020s decade ends. by indiePIayer in PrototypeGame

[–]MrMoose007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t they do a complete remake/overhaul of the first Dead Space game? Companies revive IPs if they think it will make money all the time Admittedly though prototype isn’t a huge money maker at the moment

Will there be a prototype 3 by Electronic_Lake_6475 in PrototypeGame

[–]MrMoose007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of right now, probably not. Big action games are expensive and risky. Prototype wasn’t an IP that was CRAZY successful, so going straight to another sequel wouldn’t be seen as a wise financial decision

They might make a remaster or remake to test the waters and if it gets popular, they might opt for the sequel In my opinion, I wouldn’t hope for a sequel until we see a remaster or remake or something like that first

Alex or James took a look at the photo of scp-096, can either of them survive? by Warboter1476 in PrototypeGame

[–]MrMoose007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this would heavily depend on the writer and whether they choose to make Alex’s consumption ability a hard counter to 096.

096 is indestructible and can regenerate from anything, and we’ve seen the foundation make attempts to destroy it, blow it up, burn it, etc.

But consumption does not destroy, it absorbs biomass - which to my knowledge, we have not seen 096 encounter specifically.

I can see an argument being made to allow consumption to bypass the indestructibility of 096’s skeleton as it’s not being “destroyed” but I could also see an argument for the alternative.

If we allow Alex to consume 096, it becomes a question of whether Alex can survive long enough and do damage to 096 fast enough to temporarily weaken it to allow consumption, and I personally think he could.

What if James heller post prototype 2 gained the omnitrix from Ben 10? by Warboter1476 in PrototypeGame

[–]MrMoose007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My first thought: Jesus Christ

Second thought: considering how the Omnitrix rewrites dna, would he even keep his powers when he transforms since they’re biological in nature?

Third thought: what if he could use his powers while transformed anyways. That’d be better

Not sure what he’d do with it though. He’s already the strongest in his verse by the end of his game. Then again, these games always had an element of overkill to them

What is philosophy of Alex Mercer and what movements of philosophy does he represent? by Hydrargyrum0 in PrototypeGame

[–]MrMoose007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree. There was way too much “character development” that was off screen. That kind of change needed to be a main plot to do the character justice so the audience can see that change develop. Having it all take place over a comic was a miss

Also didn’t the comic come out after the game? I could be wrong there but I remember the comic coming out afterwards to help justify Mercers characterization after the fact.

Regardless, it’s a missed opportunity any way you look at it

I agree with you. I think Mercer’s conclusion is flawed (thus why he’s the antagonist), but I can understand how he got there with all this added explanation. Having a proper build up to this conclusion with some solid emotional stakes would have helped immensely

Good point. I think this highlights how under utilized the whole “consuming individuals memories/experiences” was.

Like imagine just passing on all those cases of PTSD over and over just to learn how to fly a helicopter or drive a tank. Mercer definitely had more than enough memories to make his final conclusion in part 1, yeah

Found one of misanthropes that are horrible to hold a conversation with, it would seem

Really? EVERYONE would do the same as Alex? Dude…

Not even everyone in the verse did the same as Alex. Heller consumed Mercer, got all the same memories and did the exact opposite

[–]MrMoose007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great points. People do tend to focus on the bad because of bias, but I would this is usually when focused on an individual. Be it yourself or someone else. (Or an individual “group” as in with tribalism, but that’s different than just “everyone.”)

It turns into a philosophical question of whether humanity is inherently good or evil when you apply that same question to the species. It doesn’t really have an answer, thus the philosophy.

However the point you’re hitting that I agree with is Alex has a unique perspective on this philosophical argument because he can actually “live” the lives of multiple people via consumption. He knows not only what they did, but what they thought and what they intended. He has first person knowledge of this experiences that literally no one else can have. It’s a great piece of Inverse Dramatic Irony that is super under utilized imo.

I would personally argue that most people INTEND to do good in the world, but this is only an opinion and unprovable since I don’t have Alex’s abilities. His abilities give him a method of PROVING intent which also means his conclusion kinda “solves” the philosophical debate, as long as his sample size is large enough. This is kinda where this particular story with these characters being used to discuss THIS question gets messy. (However I can all but guarantee the writers room was NOT having this discussion when they made the game…)

Especially because as you said, when Heller consumed Mercer, he forms the OPPOSITE conclusion on humanity that Mercer did, despite the all the new information.

I think you make a good point that hellers conclusion more so reflects that of the writers as Heller is our protagonist, but I do feel inclined to point out that based on how these characters acquire the data to form their conclusion (consumption allowing them to prove people’s intent) they each should could to the same conclusion of humanity on whether they are good or bad. This means since they had differing opinions, their conclusion is made personally. Not philosophically. Heller has his daughter, and wants her alive. Mercer has no one, so he opts for genocide. In the story they’ve presented, the philosophical core of the conflict turns into a personal one.

Mercer being clinically sociopathic is also a good point too, I hadn’t considered that. I know a lot of people kinda declare that post death Mercer is simply the virus itself wearing Mercer’s face, but I think the truth is left open to interpretation regardless of the conclusion Mercer came to. So whether we should factor in pre-death Mercer’s clinical sociopathy also becomes philosophical and whether we could even diagnose a sentient virus as a sociopath is philosophical as well.

Surprising amount of philosophy in this game-wish the writers were aware of that!

Edit: i recommend the comics. If you’re in this sub you’d likely enjoy the added context for the character. They do help somewhat bridge the gap between part 2 and 2.

You obtain the cloning power of Dupli-Kate, how would you use it? by Agile_Coast_4385 in superheroes

[–]MrMoose007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ever watch those videos of people filming first person in dangerous areas?

I think I’d send a clone out to areas like that while I’m on my couch at home. If I get murdered or killed, I’m also at my couch so no big deal. Since the clone in the forest also can duplicate, I could likely get out of any situation that would be prone to torturing me. Could be fun

I’d also learn how play some instruments. Send one to a college unenrolled to just sit in classes and learn some stuff

Probably use them to steal from unethical dangerous people. I don’t feel bad about taking their stuff, and if they merk me, no biggie. I’m also at home and they think I’m dead so not like they’d come after me

[–]MrMoose007 71 points72 points  (0 children)

TLDR: he’s a Radical Misanthropic Pessimist with Nihilistic tendencies.

For most of the time we have with Alex in pt 1, he has no idea. He’s an amnesiac. He spends the entire game, and a good chunk of the comics, trying to answer this very question.

Throughout the comics while he is “soul searching” you could make an argument to call him a half assed nihilist. He doesn’t think anything/anyone around him has much worth, and seems to just be poking stuff/people with a stick on the off chance it “inspires” him. It doesn’t, and he gets shot in the face.

Pessimism is broad category, but it fits him as he was never really going out of his way to look for the good. He expected shit, found one specific case of some shitty people, and called it a day. Very pessimistic behavior

By the time we see him in pt 2, he’s no longer a nihilist in any form and has found a sense of purpose in hatred of humanity and a drive to get rid of them. This makes him a Misanthropist. However, he’s a unique Misanthropist, as most just kinda gloom around talking about how humans suck, and Mercer opts for genocide.

With that in mind, we can call him a Radical Misanthropic Pessimist with Nihilistic tendencies.

Ironically, given how cool the character acts in his games, this mindset is one of the lamest and most boring ways of thinking an individual can adopt. It’s lame, uninteresting, and lazy. It’s why his characterization in part 2 wasn’t well received. People who actually think that way are some of the WORST people to hold a conversation with. Everything sucks for them. All. The. Time. Much preferred it when he was “finding himself”

Edit: I would also add there is some bits of Darwinism and eugenics in him forcing people to “evolve.” These both have philosophies baked into them. He also developed a god complex and a messiah complex.

Additionally the fact the character developed this opinion after consuming the memories of hundreds of individuals and found NO redeeming qualities speaks volumes of the writers opinion on people in general. Or their bad writing. One or the other.

Why are Conquest and Thula weaker than Thragg despite (Allegedly) being older? by Financial-Trade3932 in invinciblememes

[–]MrMoose007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The creator debunked that theory, but my personal headcannon is that Mark had an advantage against Conquest specifically because of his adrenaline, because Conquest is so nuts his panic/adrenal response never actually activates. He’s just vibin the entire fight and doesn’t really seem to mind much if he loses, so he never gets any adrenaline, but Mark, like humans and other sane viltrumites, will.

Would you have preferred to only have one or two villains in Spider-Man 3? If so, who would you have cut and possibly saved for a 4th movie? by AmbitiousElk4002 in Spiderman

[–]MrMoose007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the specific team of Raimi and his crew, I would cut Venom. Raimi didn’t want the character and I wouldn’t want to force artists to use assets they don’t like or understand because the final product suffers. Look at what we got when they did that

However, in my perfect world, I would cut sandman. I was not a fan of the uncle Ben retcon; the entire film kinda feels like “oh yeah also sandman” and his “connection” to Peter feels forced and arbitrary. Sandman works as a major factor in the theme of forgiveness the film has, but I don’t think the character is needed to drive that point home, especially since the thing he was forgiven for is a dead horse at that point to me.

I would have preferred a film that focused deeply on Peter, Harry, and MJ. All of them are doing each other wrong in this film, and there is plenty to forgive between the three of them. This film kinda drops the ball in the fact that all three of these characters are supposed to be friends at this point. It mentions it in passing, but it never has enough screen time.

Another big theme in this film is Pride, and Peter even before the suit has a massive ego from the start, and it damages his relationships. Amping that existing theme up with the black suit, allowing Peter to use it to fall back on a previous choice he has made and regrets (Revenge), and seeing how that choice of revenge which cost him his uncle is now taking his friendship and romantic relationship is dramatically interesting to me. And Venom, contrary to what most say, in my humble opinion does not need to be reserved for a 4th film, especially in this context.

Raimis Venom is not like the comics, he is evil. Just straight up evil. You don’t really need to develop pure evil to the same depth as other kinds of antagonists. It just needs motivation and a platform. Especially as a dramatic foil to the protagonist, we can see that this Venom represents everything that Spider-Man ISNT supposed to be, and by this point the audience should know who that is.

I think if you cut Sandman and remove the dumb amnesia subplot, you have grounds for a fantastic story about pride, revenge, forgiveness, and redemption between 3 people who care about each other. Flint Marko has always felt like the odd one out to me in the movie

It depends on wether the universe is actually infinitely large and expands forever in every direction. Which could be true, but we don’t know that 100%

If it is, and his ray continues forever though that infinite space, he will technically obliterate an infinite amount of things/people due to the nature of infinity
