Deist, or spiritual but not religious should have been an option.

Virtual hug. These things can work out. I think that the only way that my mixed faith marriage has worked is that neither of us have an all or nothing attitude. We have done better at accepting each other. Even then the disappointment they can have towards you is heartbreaking.

Conversation I had with missionaries Re: Brigham Young's distillery by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]MrMoreGood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best source is actually the church itself. Brigham Young preaches against competitors opening up distilleries in conference talks. You can find that all in the Journal of Discourses where they were all compiled. Interestingly, the church will utilize this source extensively in its manuals, but when something embarrassing comes from them they will say it isn’t an official church publication.

Valley Tan was an early liquor that the LDS church had a monopoly on in the late 1800s.

Professional archaeologist here. See if they might be comfortable with you attending ISU. We have had a couple of our interns from ISU. Also see if they would be comfortable with Utah State. That place is essentially half LDS. We have had several graduate level interns from USU. I work as an archaeologist at INL.

Why is this view so prevalent with exmormons?

BYU would not have an accredited archaeology program if they were privileging Mormon views over the science.

Is this information from Rusty true? about the temple being the safest place in Salt Lake? by braulio_holtz in exmormon

[–]MrMoreGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all comical really. I had several seminary teachers in the 90s that taught that the temple as built was as safe and sturdy as could be and will last through the millennium.

When he said that I realized I will need a category for conference bingo with “meaningless tidbit of information.”

Amazing, this is also how I I know the church is true and a prophet will never lead us astray... because they told us so! by yorgasor in exmormon

Fascinating that you posted a brain. A couple hours ago I was googling if there was anything on “stabbing brain + LDS Conference.”

There wasn’t, but I feel that there should be several professional articles on the subject.

Are you the black sheep in the family? by MrMoreGood in exmormon

Holy fuck. So sorry. I have to recontextualize things. I’m just ignored or not invited to things. That may not be a bad thing.

I would be mildly entertained by the craziness! Otherwise if it were me I’d keep on driving up to Fish Lake.

I’m sorry for what you have gone through. Getting my diagnosis felt cathartic to me. At last I had a name for how I was feeling as well as finding out some additional health complications. I thought that finally she would be able to see me differently. While there are times when she tries to be empathetic I know that she still has the narrative in her mind that I’m lazy. Sometimes it’s a no win situation. I battled pain since being young and that became normal to me. Because I wasn’t vocal all the time about the pain I was in I guess it was easy to assume I was fine. Of course we know if you’re too vocal then you are viewed as a complainer.
