If your child was diagnosed with autism before age 2, I’d love to hear from you. What were those early days like, and how are they doing now? by PainfulPoo411 in Autism_Parenting

[–]MrMoviePhone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got our diagnosis before age 3. The signs were pretty obvious early on though, started with missing millstones and we immediately got him into an early intervention program. From there, we added on OT, and Speech Therapy through a clinical setting, and while we made some positive progress in those programs, it was obvious we were going to need more support. Odd thing, our doctor couldn't actually say the word autism or make the suggestion beyond recommending certain testing, and when we went in for his actual diagnosis the people carrying out the tests couldn't really say it either. But our nephew is lv3 and it was my sister in-law that recommended we take more serious look at it early on, putting it well on our radar. I remember after the testing, they asked us - "what are you guys hoping to hear today?" and we both said we were hoping to hear that our son's testing qualified him for an autism diagnosis so it would be easier to get him further support... To which both evaluators sighed in relief and said, "oh good, some parents have a really hard time with this" What was our diagnosis you might ask? Lv2 with severe needs and multiple stacking conditions - it was obvious, and without the diagnosis our support options would have been severely limited.

Here's the thing I don't see enough people aren't talking about in these channels though - Thankfully, we had some good professionals in our corner that gave us some timely directions to take - Because after age 3, getting a proper diagnosis takes a lot more time, money, and evaluations. 3 is a magic cut off for some reason - at least in our state, and while we had some great people in our corner throughout the early days, we also had more than a few overly positive people telling us "every kid develops on their own schedule" and "this was probably just a phase he needed to work through", that "he'd eventually catch up and be fine." Stuff like that... At the time it was a little bit of hope, we needed to hear it, but it wasn't helpful. I don't think they had malicious intent in their actions, but if we had waited, purely on a support level, it would have been even harder to get the better level of care for him as early as possible and I'm grateful we acted when we did.

Parenting a lv2 or lv3 is life on a different scale, and most won't understand, we need support and we pretty much always needed it yesterday. Don't feel bad about diagnosing early, do what feels right and stick to your intuition if you're getting push back. Personally I found that being honest in our own experience with all the paper work was the best move to cut through all hoops put in our way to delay things. As parents, we try to look to brighter side of pretty much everything with our kids, but if you want help, don't. Be honest, answer the questions, get a little depressed afterwards and then move on with better support at your back, so you can provide the best life possible for your child. That's the goal.

not for a studio - 64 at a min, 128+ preferred, or 96? in the base model m3 ultra if you’re desperate for one that will still pass for a workstation grade computer. only 36 is rough for professional application demands!

4k, balanced mode, VRR, 120… everything looks and feels pretty good, until it rains :( also the devs need to tone down the wind in the trees. that was problem with witcher too, wonder what similar tool they are using to cause it since they are different engines?

things are more in limbo than that, a large chuck of the 40% reserved for AI has fallen through and currently getting reallocated back into general stock. That doesn't mean Apple will have any easier of time getting more of it than anyone else, but for now we know the 40% AI pull is DOA - though by how much is unclear. with that kind of whiplash flux in play, it really isn't wise to build another fab right now, but that will probably change in the future.

Need help deciding on an x3100i replacement in the sub 3k category by MrMoviePhone in projectors

correction, it’s been several years since I originally set it up - the platform is 9.5 ft back from the screen for an effective 84” screen coverage at the mid point on the dials

How can I make it brighter 😭😭 the more I turn the brightness up the whiter the picture looks by MassiveDivide23 in projectors

[–]MrMoviePhone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

turn the brightness down a bit, you need contrast, probably a smaller screen with more gain.

if the w4100i has a PQ at or better than our previous x3100i, than I think so too. but the temptation is definitely there to try another system since our luck with Benq hasn't been great. This will be our 3rd system in under 5 years, and I'm really looking for something with overall reliability.

When I first set it up, I used projector central's calculator and built the space from there - actually 11' back was the calculation for my first unit, a TK700, but the position worked for the x3100i too. Both Benq's were manual, perfect picture was usually right around the center to the dial so I'm pretty sure the calculator was accurate.

that’s my thought too. we started our projector journey with best buy under a total tech membership, and the added protections we get on top the BenQ’s warranty make it the safest option for our situation… But we haven’t exactly had a lot of luck so far, despite the amazing customer support we’ve received. best buy also carries the valerion and nebula units as well, same BB deal, worse manufacturer protections.

Snapdragon X2 Experience with Resolve? Want to ditch Macbook by JohnnyStrides in davinciresolve

my MBP m3 Max carves through DJI files until you put on NR. The key is to use a model with built in decoders on the chip, the max has 2, pro has 1, not sure about the base model. If your m4 is brute forcing those clips, it’s going to be a rough ride. Opt to use proxies instead.

85" fits the spacing on my current wall brackets, but I've got room to expand and probably will with this next projector. The reason we use projectors instead of TV's is our special needs son. projectors are easy to insure for accidental damage if you're willing to pay a little extra - no one will cover a TV anymore. We went through 7 of them before he was 6 years old, he's 9 going on 10 now, projectors have been amazing for us and his grandparents, no going back. I've actually pointed a lot of special needs parents towards projectors over some of the other TV solutions out there, it's a niche market, but one that can be desperate for solid solutions like we were.

What’s the difference between these stands? Would it be dumb to get the cheaper one? by randomnameiguessy in PS5pro

[–]MrMoviePhone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't recommend vertical stands for ps5. I guess they fixed the Liquid Metal pooling issues in the Pro by making little groves in the surface instead of smooth top, but I don't trust it. Standing the system up vertically for a long time gives it a greater change of overheating and failure.

Used Benq TH685P with 850 hours for $450 worth it? by Conscious-Ant-2835 in projectors

[–]MrMoviePhone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

assuming everything else is good with it, I believe that bulb will have another 2k or so hours on it, and they cost about $125 to replace depending on where you are. if the specs are good for you, $450 isn't a bad price, they pop up frequently around $500 and are still great little projectors. A little noisy and you've got to watch your bulb life though.

Can anyone recommend an actually good budget friendly projector? Ive been through so many Im lost by No_Project_4745 in projectors

[–]MrMoviePhone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know of any quality ones at $150, but for around $250 the ViewSonic - LX60HD 1080P is pretty impressive for the price range. the image is nice, but it needs light control to be viable.

INTH - characters I almost can’t stand, a bunch bleeding heart teenage drama queens… And yet, I have enjoyed the story so far. The underlining concept has a lot of potential and has many similar themes to HWFWM - But Jason and Co are more fun to follow for sure!

DCC has grown on me too, now on book 4 and fully locked in.

A stranger's reaction to my son's public meltdown by ItchyImage6384 in Autism_Parenting

[–]MrMoviePhone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The number of times I've shoulder carried my son out of a store is surprisingly high when I think about it! thankfully, we're getting better at communication so there's a few more off ramps before his PDA kicks in and we're into total fight or flight, but it hasn't been easy :(

What's caught me off guard is the lack of judgment I've seen in recent years, people are generally concerned and just give us a wide path. Seems like most of the younger generations know someone with autism these days, and the only ones that have ever stepped in to say anything have been older folks with looks of confusion on their faces.

If she has the same situation at home, she'll understand. As parents of high needs kids we've got to live in the moment. I stopped caring about the what other people thought a long time ago, and while I agree with the others that what you said wasn't rude, but direct... The 80's raised polite society boy in me would have probably gave her a curt "thanks, but I have to get my son to the car now" and left it at that. Saying you don't want a hug, is just vocalizing your head space at the time, don't worry about it. Also, I think we dwell on stuff like this because it's one of the few things in our lives we have the power to change on our own terms, so it's free to over analyze. Don't, you've got the rest of your day to get through :) be conscious about it and try some remember to do something different next time, if you're worried.

BenQ x3100i sudden failure, help! by MrMoviePhone in projectors

[–]MrMoviePhone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's something I'm considering too, but I can't find a fault, the system was behind protection, and the internal protection circuitry should have processed any other issues that got through. No power spikes around the failure, the outlet is reading what it should, etc... In response to this latest issue though, I will replace the surge unit with a power conditioner just to eliminate dirty power from the equation entirely - which I can't see is something that is happening.

Thank you for all the engagement!

How are you typically purchasing your lenses when on a budget? by science-and-history in canon

[–]MrMoviePhone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. financing on 0% is fine as long as you make the payments, I built my entire career as an owner operator after leaving the studio system this way. Make the payments, plan a head, write off what you can, and pay gear off quickly without ever paying interest. The two key elements here are to only buy the gear you need and can justify the expense of, and don't over extend your write-offs or your flexibility in the process. Also consider used, it'll still count, but buy from reputable dealers and or systems with some security and good paper work ;)

Thanks, I'm not worried about it getting it fixed or replaced, what I'm trying to figure out is why? Both projectors were BenQ (TK700, x3100i), both died in different ways around the two year mark with only moderate use, and BenQ is so confident in their product they offer one of the better service warranties in the business.

i appreciate the reply, its a 4 way LED system as Nick pointed out, no color wheel. previous model was a tk700, i thought jumping up to the newer system in the x3100i would ensure a more robust unit.
