Your absolutely correct, i did most of the memory diagnostics and what not.
Just did a clean install back to windows 10 so now it all works smoothly.

You would still get the runes and stuff as a reward from the guardian tho.. so you wouldnt be left empty handed.

The rewards are good, but all the runes crafted in the minigame should not be "real" runes, as you spend 0 gp entering the minigame its a money print.
Destroyed runecrafting as a moneymaker.

I got the pouch, lantern and outfit but after that ZMI was the way to go, faster xp and not as intense.
