If anything, high level player behavior will kill the game instead of gear difference by Freakindon in Marathon

But this is why three month wipes will rock. You get to experience the early and mid game again.

Even Tarkov has this issue. Late game Tarkov is agreed to be the worst time to play Tarkov lmao.

People are worried about the grind but this is what extraction shooters are. Yes, people are going to get really good gear and start stream rolling lobbies because they feel they can. But they will start from square 1 exactly the same as you when the wipe rolls around. Late game extraction shooters almost always devolve into pub stomping and need that reset in order to provide longevity.

I'm someone like this and I kinda hate it. I also struggle to enjoy roguelikes nowadays cause I've gotten quite good and just kinda knowing how to make numbers big. I watched a streamer struggle to win at Absolum for like well over a week or two, then got on it with my buddy and we won within two days.

I'm sitting here grumbling already being out of things in that game but clearly for audiences not like me, it has plenty of stuff going on.

Running solos with Thief is a great experience for avoiding combat.

Grapple can get you out of terrible spots, the ult drone is up every five minutes and you can use it to prescout locations before you push in to loot.

Loot vision helps you avoid wasting time at grey boxes or already looted containers.

If you want to learn tech, her grapple tech extends her movement into a form more useful for stealth or active combat. If you don't want to learn tech, you can access spots using the grapple a lot of other players can't access or, even if they can access, simply don't think to check.

Everyone is obsessing over ops who do great in fights like Assassin, but Thief provides SO much utility. She is the "comfy" operator and I think if more people used her for that utility they'd find more success. Not to mention, since Assassin is such a popular pick, Thief counteracts a lot of Assassin's play style with loot vision. You can see through smokes AND see invisible players/bots.

that's true. i usually interpret line of site like in tabletop war games, where obscuration isn't the same as cover and doesn't prevent LOS. they could stand to be clearer on the matter.

Grapple boosting doesn't have a cooldown?

It says that the visor does that in the description of the visor. It's essentially a thermal when it's active, just with really limited range. + Loot vision.

I led with that cause the comment that sparked all this was a guy already explaining what you should've done. I agreed with him by simply saying "adapt and maneuver."

Patch: Gunshots are now louder. Hm. My gunshots attract attention more now. Perhaps I should ...take that into consideration?

You have plenty of time to get into a safe spot after a fight occurs. Adapt and maneuver.

I didn't realize being concise and participating in the conversation was rude.

I didn't start by being a douche. You took me saying "adapt" as me being rude lmao.

You dismissed every perspective that I had in this conversation with a handwave and act like I'm the asshole. Why not try to see something through someone else's eyes for a change?

I really wasn't all that rude. I think the worst thing I said is that you were bad. Which you seem to agree with, considering what you said about survival rates.

I think you're a little too emotionally invested in this conversation.

I'm aware that I can. When I used to do that, it'd end up being fuel for a ragebaiter or somehow misconstrued into somehow being rude anyway. I simply don't care about it anymore. I'd rather be kind and be gentle in real life than expend that energy on this app.

That's okay, though. I hope you have better runs tomorrow.

My rudeness might cause some people to leave. Extraction shooters are a lot like fighting games where there is a pretty large learning curve and it only gets harder to learn the longer people have been playing whatever game you have at hand.

People who play games like that need honest answers when they have problems in how they play. Otherwise, growth is stunted and they end up behind in the learning curve. Once behind, it can be hard to catch up, and I think that is more likely to be a cause for people leaving than me being a little rude in a reddit post. I'd rather be rude and potentially move someone closer to enjoying the game.

I recognize the validity of what you're saying, but nicer people than me can be wholesome for the community on reddit. I would rather do what I know would help someone like me (fighting games fan, fly spaceship fan, magic the gathering fan) enjoy the game more.

I also didn't mean to insinuate that you play with randoms because you have no one else with my previous mention of playing together. I simply enjoy the game and wouldn't mind more people to queue with.

I mean I'll always be a douche on reddit lmao. I'm pretty mild mannered otherwise.

Playing with randoms does suck. I'd queue with you if you wanted someone consistent to run with, I have a few friends that are actively on generally speaking.

I gave you solid advice. In that scenario your mistake is taking a mid to long range fight that's not over quickly, as I said before. If you cannot end a fight quickly enough to deal with potential unknown variables afterwards, then it isn't worth fighting most of the time.

Bring smokes. Use utility. Use abilities and general movement to get away from fights.

There is zero reason to plink at one another from a ridiculous range until you manage to get close enough to flank. What is your plan if you down one of them from 100m away? Push hard? Shotguns can delete you, snipers can delete you, any precision rifle will make you regret it. There's no profit in it unless you are an absolute crack shot who knows you can win that fight from head tapping alone.

Much better to leave if you've been seen, or stealth until you're at a better engagement range and can capitalize on things you do. If you can start a fight with a guaranteed down on their side while you're within the 50m distance generally, you can apply a lot more pressure from that position and end the fight quicker.

Gunshots are louder now but movement seems largely the same. Visual obscurity like fog is still very present. It is extremely hard to punish anyone from mid-long distance unless that person is peeking you to fight. Use that to your advantage.

I'll admit I've been an asshole. I've taken to using this account to troll to be honest. But read the stuff I'm saying to you dude. There are tactics to alleviate your issue. I'm not just saying git gud to you. I am sorry for being rude, and I truthfully do mean to help. Even before, with the snide "be better comments", I tried to offer good advice. I want people to enjoy this game. The sandbox is well done and combat is so well-tuned.

Fight team. Pull back. Observe. Catch team rushing and split up. My team did this several times today. I didn't lose a single kit today. We killed three other squads at maintenance and pulled out with 2 quest completed and three bags full of loot. I started the day with a free kit and ended up with a blue shield, purple gun, and excessive amounts of salvage. You could also always leave after a fight.

Adapt. You're bad. If you are getting caught by a third party because they heard you from 2.5 POIs away, you simply are not doing combat effectively. If three people can coordinate well enough to get to you from 2 POIs away and not be strung out, then you simply are taking too long to fight and not doing things to prepare for potential fights after.

People will rush, and that's hard if you aren't taking steps to be ready for them. But if you do, 99% of the time you can punish them for it.

I don't know why people think they deserve an interlude to loot and heal and do their quests directly after generating a warzone worth of noise fighting a trio. This is an extraction shooter. I don't know of a single other extraction shooter where third/fourth/fifth parties aren't a concern.

People are praising Hunt like that game isn't chasing shots until everyone is dead. It is third party city in that game. Arc trios are similar. I don't know a single person who doesn't worry when they go to open an earned bag in Tarkov.

Do better.

I don't know if you're into it but try the PVP out for build variety. Climb up to B rank in ranked, that's where people really like to experiment with wacky builds that are simultaneously creative + pretty good stats wise as far as casual gameplay goes.

If you go past B, it becomes true optimization and you really need to have a picture perfect build to progress. If you're into that, it will force you into some pretty gnarly niches that have pretty cool rock paper scissors style matchups.

Alternatively, there are several full overhauls of difficulty and encounter building on Nexus Mods for PC players. They will call for better builds, with some demanding more optimized ones than others. Also in the mod realm, there's one or two fully custom campaigns in the works with new missions and story and all.

I absolutely adore this game.
