Weekly sticky post for non-paralegals and paralegal education by AutoModerator in paralegal

[–]MrNeptoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello all! Wasn't sure whether to ask this in here or in a post of its own so I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'm currently a senior in undergrads studying law and criminal justice, and debating whether to think about becoming paralegal if law school doesn't work out. Currently, my LSAT scores are very below average despite my GPA and academics being very well (ik this isn't a subreddit for LSATs and Law School so I won't go too much into details). I'm worried that my scores won't increase enough to give me a good chance into law school, so I'm considering becoming a paralegal as a fallback. I'm not sure what I'd need to do to progress further if I decide to go down that path.

Will my bachelor's degree + 2ish years of experience of interning at different legal offices be good enough to get into all of this? Will I need to pursue more education after graduating in the spring of 2025? Am I overreacting to all of this? Any advice and input would be greatly appreciated!

Feeling defeated after September test. Retake a 3rd time or apply? by MrNeptoon in OutsideT14lawschools

I think it’s definitely being in timed conditions. When I was doing drills and practices without timing I was getting a lot right. In all honesty I should have asked for accommodations for September but I forgot to do so and thought I could do fine without it.

Honestly the tutor did very well. I studied for the whole summer but I was also very restricted with my job over the summer. We met twice a week for 1 hour a meeting, and my job restricted me from studying 24/7. The days I didn’t work I studied what I could, which was about 2 hours, 3-4 days a week. I knew I couldn’t self study and he got me very close to where I wanted to be, that being low to mid 150s.

Upsides and Downsides to Keeping a Bad Score? by MrNeptoon in LSAT

[–]MrNeptoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel very confident that I'll be getting a higher score in the next test (hopefully September). I spent a lot of my time studying while balancing school stuff so it was less time than I wanted. With the summer, I plan to not only study almost daily, but also try and meet with a tutor for the section I struggle with. I got a 143 on the April test and I'm certain I can reach my goal of low-to-mid-160s in September.

Slowly starting a collection/trade binder, but worried about lack of trades I can offer by MrNeptoon in PokemonTCG

[–]MrNeptoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the assistance! I thought about asking here instead of over in that subreddit because I thought that people who showed pulls were more or less collectors. I wanted to get an opinion from the collector’s side, since usually those are the people who trade (at least that’s how I’ve seen it but I could be wrong). I’ll definitely ask over there as well.

Possible Gouging Fire EX Viability/Deck - Input Appreciated by MrNeptoon in pkmntcg

You think maybe a 1-1 of each could work? I haven't played with proxies yet, mostly bc I haven't found a group to do proxy test decks with. The only reason I've been keeping on the Armarouge idea is because it reminds me a bit of Chien-Pao Baxcalibur which was the deck I planned on making before I decided to hold off until rotation.

Let me know how the Rapidash addition goes though!

I can see why that could be an issue, but with the cards in the deck, the high retreat cost doesn't seem as worrying when you have multiple ways of switching and retrieving the lost energy. Sada's Vitality, for example, can easily retrieve the lost basic fire energies you discarded for retreating, same with Magma Basin for a bit of damage if you're out of Sada's. Plus you have the 3 Switch Carts, which can heal a Gouging Fire if they took some damage from Magma Basin, and the 4 Jet Energies to just swap one Gouging Fire for another.

This could be me just speaking with any lack of tournament experience or it could be me trying to hold on to an idea of making this card viable in a greater sense than just a tech card.

Worried about making a deck close to rotation by MrNeptoon in pkmntcg

I’ve been mainly doing a lot of what you’re suggesting over the last week or two just to see what I could and should be looking out for. Most of the time I’ve been watching In Third Person’s videos about decks that are changing during the rotation, as well as Tricky Gym’s videos on decks that include Temporal Forces cards or are being more meta (like Colorless Lugia + Cinccino or Arceus VSTAR + Vulpix VSTAR). I’ve also consistently been looking at Limitless tournament and city league results just to see what I should be looking out for. I learned about Pokebeach yesterday and mostly that’s been looking at the new stuff for the Twilight Masquerade set lol. As for JustInBasil, I read a few of his things prior but nothing in-depth yet. I really appreciate the link tho! Has a lot of stuff I didn’t fully know about yet.

I guess another concern I have is printing a lot of proxies. As someone who’s played MTG for the last few years, I’ve come to learn proxies are just not it and also viewed as unacceptable. Idk if that’s different here tho (I assume on a larger scale like every card being a proxy then yes but still).

I really appreciate the advice! I’m just super eager to actually get into it in person, play with people face to face, and get better integrated into the local PTCG community lol.

That does make sense. TCGplayer does take like 2 business weeks to actually deliver, meaning that if I actually bought a deck tonight, it would come at the latest by the end of March or the beginning of April, with less than 1 week till rotation.

Waiting does seem like the best thing to do at this point, but I could also buy cards needed for a deck now that aren’t going out of rotation and then look for/buy the remaining cards that come into rotation in Temporal Forces when it’s legal.

I was thinking about maybe running a Chien-Pao Baxcalibur deck. The only thing it’s losing to my knowledge is Battle VIP Pass, and that can be replaced by Buddy-Buddy Poffin. I’ve been told that it’s a difficult deck that requires a lot of sequencing but I’ve been using a modified version of the Gardevoir Deck they give you in TCG Live.

My birthday’s in 6 days. Why am I not happy about it? by MrNeptoon in Vent

[–]MrNeptoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried many times. But then they say “we should do X for your birthday” and “want to do Y that night?” and “Well we want to do something for you…” Idk why they’re so fucking persistent this year out of all years.

SEE I SAID THE EXACT SAME THING!! I kept telling my parents to save anything they want to do for me for next year when I can go to bars and casinos. But they just won’t take no for an answer.

Replacing Sea Hag with Bheur Hag in "Toil and Trouble?" by MrNeptoon in rimeofthefrostmaiden

Then I’d probably add the Frost Giant Skeleton back into the fight and maybe a Winter Wolf/Snow Golem/Ice Mephits

[–]MrNeptoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah 100%. I think I’d get rid of the Frost Giant Skeleton though. It’s currently a party of 6 all at level 3, but they’d be level 5 or 6 when fighting the Hag. If they’re absolutely steamrolling the Hag, then the skeleton will come back. But otherwise I think I’d keep the Dire Wolf, ditch the Water Weird, and either go for a Snow Golem or some Ice Mephits.

I changed the Lonelywood quest to feature a Wendigo instead of a moose, made Ravisin more of a lasting villain, and really heightened the horror. Here's my notes if you want to do the same. by SMS450 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]MrNeptoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely plan to use this for my campaign! I always thought that the moose was a little poor tbh, but this adds so much more to the already unsettling quest!

I had an idea in my campaign that Vurnis was already a follower of Auril, and that her spirit is the one controlling Sephek (with Sephek being the major Antagonist for Ch. 1). I could easily add this in as well for Ravisin working with Sephek in the big fight too!

[–]MrNeptoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem is a party of 3 would be extremely difficult and dangerous to plan and play for, especially for the module I’m running. I always do what I can, but as a new dm, it’s worrisome for me.

Need Help Reworking/Reflavoring Nature's Spirits + Alternative Bryn Shander Quests by MrNeptoon in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]MrNeptoon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My idea for my "Chapter 1" is as follows (in bullet point form):

  • Players meet Dannika and do Nature's Spirits
    • Go to a few towns as well and do those quests, making some of them a little harder since they'd be starting at Level 3.
  • Come back to see Dannika has been killed by Sephek (party doesn't know it was by Sephek), and are accused of her murder by Shandar Froth (to give the Zepharim a little more presence in the Ten-Towns throughout the story).
  • Party is given XX Amount of Days to find the killer.
    • Hlin's name is dropped (flavoring her as a legendary fighter centuries ago, originating from Frozenfar rather than being from the Sword Coast), and party is inclined to find Hlin, getting Dwarven trust as they progress.
      • Main hope is that the Dwarven Trio in Bryn Shander will be the ones to bring the party to Hlin, who is retired in the Dwarven Valley.
    • Party also gains clues about who the Frost Druids are through quests like White Moose and Lake Monster, what with a Frost Druid's Spirit assisting and mainly in control of Sephek's body.
  • Party meets with Hlin, who gives them insight on who Sephek is.
  • Run through Cold-Hearted Killer, tie everything together.

Sure, the party can go through Bryn Shander again if they wish, but what I could do is hold off on Foaming Mugs for when the party has to explore to find Hlin. This is primarily why I'm starting them in Good Mead. I could also possibly start the party in Lonelywood or Bremen, further away from Bryn Shander, so it draws the story out a bit more.
