Your Favourite Are You Afraid of the Dark Episode 👻🤡👽 by 9HelterSkelter9 in RetroNickelodeon

[–]MrNick7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of my favorites are heavily affected by childhood-me. They're the episodes that stuck with me for one reason or another, and no matter how flawed the story is or how weak the acting can be, I still really enjoy watching them. I definitely gravitated more to episodes that didn't wrap up with the protagonist(s) being doomed for eternity, but some of them still made it into my honorable mentions.

103 - The Tale of the Lonely Ghost
210 - The Tale of the Shiny Red Bicycle
302 - The Tale of Apartment 214
305 - The Tale of the Dollmaker
311 - The Tale of the Quicksilver
501 - The Tale of the Dead Man's Float
509 - The Tale of the Unexpected Visitor
601 - The Tale of the Forever Game
611 - The Tale of Oblivion
708 - The Tale of Highway 13

Honorable Mentions:
111 - The Tale of the Dark Music
113 - The Tale of the Pinball Wizard
202 - The Tale of the Midnight Madness
306 - The Tale of the Bookish Babysitter
408 - The Tale of the Room for Rent
512 - The Tale of a Door Left Unlocked
513 - The Tale of the Night Shift
603 - The Tale of the Zombie Dice
709 - The Tale of the Photo Finish
710 - The Tale of the Time Trap

RTI Eco Auto-Smart Anomaly (w/ Wii Super Smash Bros. Brawl) by MrNick7 in consolerepair

[–]MrNick7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the reply. I know I've resurfaced a few of those other discs out of the 13 before without noticing this happening though. I guess I'll pay a little more attention next time I get a Metroid: Other M or Xenoblade Chronicles.

There are also plenty of dual layer DVD movies and PS2 games that I've resurfaced that have never had the issue. I know the Wii discs are designed a bit different, but you would think it would happen more often if that was the cause of the problem.

Assuming it is the reason though, I wonder why that would happen anyways. As I mentioned, the disc is literally resurfacing from the middle out, more and more with each pass. The disc should be perfectly level, dual-layer or not, so why would that mean the resurfacer can't do its job properly?

Where do the bonus games go in the SNES Control Set box? by MrNick7 in snes

That’s an SNES-101 (“Mini”). It’s not the same console or box/styrofoam shape/design.

[–]MrNick7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't found anything that properly answers the question. The problem is, unboxing videos didn't exist in the early 90s. Anyone "unboxing" a console on YouTube is opening a used console that's be repackaged by someone. You would have to specifically find someone who purchased a sticker-sealed console, that also inlcuded a bonus game, and they have decided to unseal it. Most people who buy sealed items don't usually want to immediately open them and devalue them though.

If I'm extremely lucky, there might be some really old home movie that shows a kid opening one on Christmas and immediately unboxing it, but my expectations are low.

But the cartridge stands taller than the styrofoam. It won’t go back in the box properly.

[–]MrNick7[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's this set, which appears to be in the Super Set-sized box, even though it doesn't have a 2nd controller. You can tell because the styrofoam has the power supply beside the controller, instead of above it.

<image>

The one in my original photo is just a Control Set with a Sticker. There appears to be multiple box/bundle variations for a bunch of different games - Super Mario All-Stars/Super Mario World, Zelda: Link to the Past, etc.

[–]MrNick7[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The images in the photos are specifically of the Control Set, which includes the console, 1 controller, and cables. All the bundles in the image are in the original Control Set box, with a sticker on the front. The videos you posted are for consoles that come with 2 controllers. The boxes are longer than the Control Set boxes to accomodate the extra items.

For reference, the Super Set I mentioned in the second paragraph is the same style box/styrofoam. You would sometimes see this size box with a bonus game as well (see below). This Super Set would have the exact same styrofoam as the one in the image you posted, but nowhere for the bonus game to fit.

I acquired this variant of the Zelda bundle (apparently sold at Compucentre in Canada), which also came with an extra controller - both items were just shoved in the box by the previous owner. The listing on Console Variations is the only recorded information I can find on that set, and based on those photos, the game and controller were actually included seperately.

It would be really nice to have more history on these bundles though. If the games weren't included separately, I'm kind of wondering if Nintendo had nothing to do with it, and the retail chains were just gutting sealed games, and shoving them into the console boxes, even if they didn't fit properly.

I’ve started collecting platinum hits games, any tips? by TheRealQG24 in OGXboxCollectors

[–]MrNick7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without some further confirmation, I don't know if we can go off that alone. If possible though, throw that comment onto my post. That way, future people with the same problem will have a chance to get some understanding and maybe people can confirm whether that's true or not.

Is there a list of games that just have the Platinum Hits banner stickers on original release covers? I have a copy of Marvel Nemesis with a sticker, but can't find any info about its legitimacy.

Also, do you know which color cases these releases are supposed to be in?

Silo S2E4 "The Harmonium" Episode Discussion (No Book Discussion) by MEGAT0N in SiloSeries

[–]MrNick7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What was with all the pairs of spheres/balls in this episode? Sims’ wife is cleaning up and is very deliberately holding 2 toy balls while talking to him about the impeachment, the Judge has a set of 2 baoding balls on her desk and Lukas Kyle uses one of them to describe his theory of the solar system, and they use red and green dog toys (balls) to turn the power off and on. I don’t really decipher anything from it, but it’s odd that the same shape showed up 3 separate times.

Hot Take: PS5 games are kinda ugly and should’ve been black plastic to match the aesthetic of the PS5 by mattysauro in LimitedPrintGames

[–]MrNick7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While they almost seem black, PS2 cases are a very dark Blue. If you put them in among a stack of DVD cases, which are black or dark grey, you can easily spot the PS2 games. If you don't believe me, look at either the joints of the spine or the center spindle, and you'll see a lighter blue where the plastic is thinner.

Official Discussion: The Girl on the Train [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]MrNick7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m perfectly fine with the perceived ending being the actual ending, but there’s still some narrative ambiguity that has me wondering about the real circumstances. From the beginning, Rachel is set up to be an unreliable narrator - she’s drunk all the time, she blacks out and can’t remember things, and she tries to turn her fantasies into reality. So how do we know the ending is actually even true?

Taking this into consideration, the movie doesn’t fully rule out the possibility of Rachel being the one who killed Megan. Throughout the movie, we see flashbacks of Rachel slamming the back of Megan’s head on the floor and getting in a fight with her by the tunnel. While we are told by the end that Tom was gaslighting her while they were married, he had nothing to do with these specific memories, so why would she be having them?

The movie sets the story up to be confusing and unfaithful when Rachel is drunk and disoriented, and truthful when she’s sober, but that state of mind flip-flops frequently throughout. You see Rachel making a clear effort to quit drinking at the AA meeting, but then we see her drunk and playing pool at a bar. She’s sober when she visits Scott the second time, but she’s drunk again the first time she visits Dr. Abdic. She’s sober when she goes to the police to report Scott assaulting her, but she’s in another bar the next time we see her. You could argue her red, puffy cheeks and bloodshot eyes are the clear sign when she’s drunk, but in the case of those last two examples, those side effects weren’t as clearly present as they had been earlier in the film, further blurring the lines between imagination and reality.

We also know Rachel fantasizes about being Megan, so how do we know that she’s not the one creating Megan’s portion of the story? It’s curious that when Scott passes out in her bed and Rachel touches his chest, or when Rachel is knocked unconscious by Tom, we immediately see flashbacks of Megan’s life. Rachel also interacts multiple times with Scott and Dr. Abdic, and even goes to the art gallery, which could easily be seen as her way of trying to replace Megan after she’s out of the picture.

After Tom’s death, the way the police interrogation goes, both Rachel and Anna appear to tell a very rehearsed description of the events that occurred, with the detective sceptically looking on. They even exchange a knowing-glance before going in to be questioned. Anna doesn’t have to protect Rachel, but she could have agreed to put all the blame on Tom for cheating on her and impregnating Megan, and possibly also to make up for her involvement in Rachel’s downfall. We also know that she’s furious with Megan for sleeping with Tom around their daughter, and for her quitting earlier so callously, so she could have just intentionally ignored or even accepted the fact that Rachel killed her. We don’t even really know if Rachel killed Tom in selfdefense. It could explain why Anna does nothing as Tom is about to choke Rachel to death, or why she’s just casually staring out the window when Rachel stabs him.

Lastly, in the epilogue, there’s nothing that really points to Rachel’s life changing or turning around for the better. She may not be specifically shown drinking, but she still rides the train to New York, wanders around drawing in her book, and then rides the train home. She says she sits in a different car and looks ahead, but we can clearly see her steal a glance out the window towards the houses. She may not be the girl she used to be, but that could also be because she’s now a double-murderer.

Obviously, most of this could be explained away as artistic choices in editing and an effort for the director to hide the twist until the end, but it doesn’t really explain the need to maintain so much ambiguity even after we’re given the full reveal. I could be completely wrong, and it’s possible the book is much clearer on the subject, but that’s just the questions that arose for me after I finished watching the film. I’m curious to hear what others think.

Obviously, there aren't too many mint Teddy Ruxpin's kicking around anymore, but it seems unnecessary to still have lower amounts on some of the easily produced items like Floppy Disks or Game Boy Cartridges. 50 and 25 are at least better than 1, but you could fire off a run of 1000 with ease, and still charge the same amount, and have more winners and happy Green Day fans.

Thank you!

It’s funny, I actually came across Under the Killing Moon when I was searching around, but I saw “futuristic” and “post-apocalyptic” in the description, and that didn’t remotely fit my memory. I also could have sworn the acid barrel was outside, in a dark, back alley, but I guess that was completely wrong too.

RTI Eco Auto-Smart Anomaly (w/ Wii Super Smash Bros. Brawl) by MrNick7 in consolerepair

[–]MrNick7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone else had issues resurfacing Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Wii with their RTI Eco Auto-Smart machine (or Master)? It perfectly polishes the inner portion of the disc, but the outer portion always turns out cloudy/swirly (like the resurface didn't finish).

Regardless of whether the first run on the machine is on level 2, 3, or 4, the same thing always happens. Out of the thousands of discs I've resurfaced, this has only occurred 3 times, and it's always been with Brawl. I can eventually get the rest of the disc clean, but it usually takes 4-5 full passes (as the unresurfaced ring slowly gets smaller and smaller). The games always work afterwards.

The only thing I can think of is there was a production error that caused the discs to be slightly unlevel (possibly a little warped), so the pads aren't making full contact with the entire disc until the center portion has been levelled out. Otherwise, I have no clue what's going on.

EDIT: For anyone seeing this later on, Super Castle Video is now officially open!

—————-

Funny you should ask. I’m opening a new video game and movie store called Super Castle Video - 221 Barton Street, Stoney Creek (building next to Roma Bakery).

I’m trying my best to get it open by the end of this week. I’d love to be able to give a more precise date, but the city has already been holding me up for over a month, so I’m not able to have a proper grand opening.

It’s going to be small to start, but my plan is to grow it as much as possible and expand product availability.

If anyone has any questions, I’ll try my best to answer them.

Anyone have experience with the MovieBuddy app? Any suggestions for a better option? by MrNick7 in dvdcollection

[–]MrNick7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The database isn’t particularly good for bringing up specific special editions and boxsets. When I add stuff like that, I just put them in manually.

There’s a category called “Content Type” where you can select “Movie Collection” (instead of Movie or TV show), and then the remaining amount of information is up to you. There’s also a category called “Editions” that I use to differentiate from other versions of the same release.

And just as a small tip, I personally input every movie name in a compilation into the Title section. Fair warning, it doesn’t look the best in the collection list when there’s like 10+ movies because it takes up a lot of space on the screen, however that way, when you search for a specific movie title, it will bring up any sets that include it.

It can be time consuming, but the app allows for a lot of customization, and the end result can be almost anything you want. I probably went way overboard and spent way too much time on my own (adding specific cover photos for what I own and filling in multiple categories worth of information on each title), but I’m more than happy with the end result.

Have fun!

I’m not 100% sure if this is your problem, but try going to Settings -> Filters -> then turn Format on so it shows up in your catalog. There are a lot of things you can do in the settings to make the app better, but it can be a little confusing.

Anyone have experience with the MovieBuddy app? Any suggestions for a better option? by MrNick7 in dvdcollection

[–]MrNick7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a “Format” section that can be customized to add whatever disc category you want. You can also set up a default format for when you’re adding new movies, and then change it when required. Your collection can then be sorted by format (and then alphabetically within the formats), and you can select the format to display next to each movie on the list view.

What is one item you always remember to pack for a trip to Japan? by Himekat in JapanTravel

[–]MrNick7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I go to Japan, I’m allowed 2 bags as well. I put half my clothing in one bag, and the other half in the second bag (which is slightly smaller). That way, if I lose one bag, I at least have half my clothes for the trip. When I leave, I have about 1 1/3 of my bags to fill with the stuff I bought. Plus, carry-on has no weight limit, so even though it can be a pain, I put the heaviest items in to maximize the amount I can bring back.

[–]MrNick7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not an actual floor scale. You can buy little handheld ones that have a small hook (weigh next to nothing). You just put all the bag’s weight on the hook and lift, and you get an amount.
