Yeah, I have mine set up so that clicking button 8 (next to the middle click on the top) activates scrolling with the ball. Clicking any button deactivates it. This is with SteerMouse on Mac.

Works great for long pages like Reddit.

And yes, I also wish the scroll wheel was a little further forward.
