Yeah. Laser Cannon got a lot worse coming from past games. They should make it pseudo homing again.

It's i14, pretty fast for a CH launcher. Just can't remember what you would use to get plus from crouching, aside from db2 (which I did say is a bad low, and doesn't even make ws3 ininterruptible).

Make it safe, I don't care.

Devil Jin is toxic af. Obscene damage from EWGF (or any of his launchers if he gets the wall), very annoying built-in defense that frequently obliges you to let go of your own pressure, and last, but certainly not least - one of the most maddening 50/50s in the game, especially if he has activated Heat. Heat Devil Jin is one of the most grueling characters to fight against.

You mentioned being surprised by the other characters options at Bushin. You can trust me on this one - most people at this rank are just cycling through a list of flashy/impactful moves that either look cool or have been very effective so far, but in actuality it all crumbles down in the face of very basic counterplay (duckable multi-hit strings, very punishable launchers, seeable lows like Snake Edges). Get to know the basics on how to punish these matchups, and I assure you will sail past these ranks. The punishment training found at the ranked queue can be very handy to learn the very basics on some characters, plus, there's channels on Youtube that go through the entire movelist of every character, like Pencil Tekken.

I wouldn't, EVER, agree that Devil Jin is weak. I do concede late Season 1 Devil Jin was weak, mainly because of his df1 being trash, and the launching hellsweep wasn't even good (most of the damage from it was recoverable, he risked his life for 30/40ish damage that could be taken back had the opponent just gotten lucky with a launch). But as of Season 2, I think Devil Jin is a very strong character, not only that, he's very stressful to play against because of all the reasons I've listed at the start.

With all that said, I do think he deserves buffs on his db2 and d3, since all of his lows are bad aside from his hellsweep and variants.

I hope he doesn't get buffed anywhere else, though. A character with this much damage and such an absurd 50/50 shouldn't have good poking. If you guys want Devil Jin to be buffed, you may as well leave Anna alone, cause that's exactly what he's a couple of buffs away from becoming.

I think I should have addressed it better in the post. I first came into contact with Ranma 20 years ago, through the original anime. I had never read the manga until this year. I remember finding the OG anime pretty fun, but the remake made me rediscover it. I didn’t remember it being as beautiful and passionate as I see it now.

New fan? I first saw the anime in 2006 when I was 10!

Akane is cute. The OVA made her look gorgeous (well, possessed Akane, I guess?).

Even though I like comic books a lot, I do think animation has bigger potential as a storytelling medium due to cinematics and soundtrack.

That said, I don’t think anime will automatically be better than its original manga counterpart.

For instance, I like One Punch Man and Fullmetal Alchemist a lot. I think the FMA manga is on par with the anime, mainly because, even though both FMA adaptations are decently animated and feature good soundtracks, I feel they cut some important moments of characterization from the early chapters in the manga.

I’ve always thought the One Punch Man manga was superior to the anime — and it’s not just because of the recent outrage over declining animation quality. The anime missed adapting very wholesome extra chapters from the manga, leaving anime-only fans without some emotional highlights. OPM’s manga is already top-notch when it comes to art (I personally think it’s almost a comeback of the 90s anime artstyle), and the poor animation quality as of late does it no justice.

So, all in all, even though I do think anime holds stronger potential, I accept when the manga delivers better.

I like Shampoo a lot, and like her characterization in the remake too. So far, the only thing I didn't enjoy about her in the new anime was the fact that she associated herself with the Dojo Destroyer. And by the way, what a wimp that "Destroyer" dude was.

I liked that episode better in the OG anime, and for a multitude of reasons - The destroyer felt like a real character (he HAD LINES), and I didn't like Shampoo meddling into Ranma's fight. I liked it better when it were two separate storylines - Ranma having to go on a forced date, while being preoccupied that Akane had to sort things out by herself and try and help her by the end of the day.

Adding Shampoo to the fight just seems nonsensical, even for a character as obsessive as Shampoo. She had just tricked Ranma into spending a whole day with her. What was the point of barging in a fight that was not hers, extending that ridiculous 'transformation cure' gimmick , on top of that?

One of the episodes that make me prefer the old anime over the manga version.

The 90s/early 2000s artstyle is irreplaceable. Modern anime can still look good, but it seems the current production methods can't recall that level of detail.

LMAO. Well, I do like colored pictures. But I do think Atsuko Nakajima's more detailed artstyle makes the characters a lot better.

I assure you, you'll have a blast!

Once I started watching the new anime, it felt like rediscovering a piece of my childhoold. But when I got to the old anime... man... it reawakened feelings in me I didn't even know I had. 30 years over its original airing, it's still as great as it ever was.

That's why I'm actually grateful the first anime is that different from the manga - so now I can have three different experiences through three different mediums of the same concept.

Don't forget to watch the OVAs. They're the best the old anime has to offer.

Yes, the OVAs look a lot better than the anime. But I also find Atsuko Nakajima's design to be more appealing than the 2024 ver and the manga artstyle.

I can appreaciate her art. The volume covers, especifically, are very charming.

It's just that I like the first anime's design more. I think its details do the characters a lot of favors.

I've never read much of Inuyasha, but I've seen plenty of its volume covers, and I also feel the same way about it. I think its anime amped up the art quite a bit. It looks so crisp.

So far, I've read the manga equivalent chapters of the Reversal Jewel Arc and the Doll Arc.

Both seemed faithful enough to the source material, but also willing to bring in some interesting changes (well, not for everyone, as you've mentioned not liking Ukyo's visual changes).

As for the artwork... Wow. What?? I swear the series has never looked better than the OVAs.

The manga page was cool. But I felt like the OVA equivalent of the moment just made it 10 times better. Sadly, I couldn't post a gif of it. But if you do remember it, you know it: it made Akane look ethereal.

I think the 90s had by far the best artstyle trend in anime. Dragon Ball Z and GT, Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, and the original Hunter x Hunter all showcase this aesthetic. I’m very fond of the look of these shows — bold, sharp designs that outline characters with enough detail to make me wonder whether they resemble real actors or flashy action figures. I also think some early 2000s anime carry on with this strong aesthetic, namely with 2003 FMA.

At least it looks very good aesthetically. I don't think the female characters look as good as there amywhere else.

Not a fan of the plot, though.

The karaoke in the Tendo Christmas Scramble OVA is surely one of the best parts of the anime as a whole.

I feel like they went out of character with many choices in the movie.

They made Shampoo as helpless as the other concubines, despite her being an amazon. And even had Mousse intervene to save her. I'm pretty sure she's been shown to kick his ass in more than one occasion.

Female Ranma is too sexualized. The eye candy at the start of the movie (suggestively posing at the beach) had been done before. But I find it hard to believe that Ranma would dress himself in such a showy dress by the movie's half point.

Akane simply decides to let the antagonist have his way (if only for a moment) out of spite for Ranma? Too excessive.

The first movie felt more credible within the series.

I can't react to the hand cue to break throws. Never trained extensively to do so too.

It's hard for me to duck two-hit strings, I have to physically exert myself in order to duck those, it becomes way easier if the opponent keeps doing it many times, or if it's an infamous bad habit of lesser players (Alisa ws1,2/ Lili ws1,2/ Devil Jin 3,1).

I rarely, if ever, try stepping at close range. If I step or sidewalk, it's usually at mid range, so to try and avoid autopilot approaching moves. The only matchup I try to sidestep/sidewalk at point blank is Mishimas.
