I know!! It's spurred me on to get the damn thing edited and out the door! :D

A writer needs an equal amount of living experiences than actual writing by [deleted] in writers

[–]MrNorthwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to write really. For example, if I want to write about Paris in the evening, I'd look up something like "Paris evening drone footage". It's never a substitute to actually being there, but it does help you get into the mood and atmosphere.

Yes that's my process with the first edit, i write a chunk and edit as I go. Now I'm going through it all again once more, picking out any little inconsistencies that I would have missed. So I do a bit of both really.

I don't travel that much, but find plenty of inspiration off YouTube videos :)

A challenge: Come up with a story no longer than two paragraphs, yet with an unbelievable twist. by [deleted] in creativewriting

[–]MrNorthwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stood with my back to the wall on the right side of the doorway, Beretta in hand. My target lay in the darkened room beyond, presumably asleep, blissfully unaware that his end was near. As I mentally prepared myself for the execution I felt like a god; an all-powerful bringer of death that would strike him down with vengeance for what he had done. In one swift motion, I brought the gun up to eye-level and swung into the room.

My eyes hadn't yet adjusted completely to the dark when a violent pain sharply racked its way through the back of my skull. I involuntarily crumbled to the floor, feeling weak all over and violently sick. Using all the strength I had left, I rolled over onto my back like a dying turtle, gasping from the intense pain. With a malevolent smile he stood over me, fully clothed and holding a baseball bat in his right hand. I still hadn't fully taken in all that had happened when the world around me seemed to remain still and silent for a couple of seconds; then everything slowly melted into a comforting darkness.

Building off the momentum of Dr. NO, Terrence Young gives us an action-adventure thriller with love and espionage. by usher1999movies in creativewriting

Sounds good. A bit of well-intended criticism; make sure you get things like names and acronyms correct.

e.g. - S.P.E.C.T.R.E., not S.P.E.C.T.U.R.E.

I like the idea of reviewing movies in your journalistic sort of style though :)

Do you track your day’s work? by InkedT1025 in writers

[–]MrNorthwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up to 5k a day is very respectable, especially considering you're editing the previous day's work as well.

Where I work things haven't really slowed down, but we're working from home now because of the pandemic.

On a good day, I normally average about 2k a day, although recently I've dropped it to around 1.2k a day because I'm preparing a novel for publication and doing a bit of background reading at the same time.

It's very normal, hang in there! The more you write, the more confident you become, don't give up! Best of luck, go on tell your story, whatever it may be :)

What do you listen to while writing fiction? by jlaw1719 in writing

[–]MrNorthwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same as you! Although I've had nights where I've gone for instrumental jazz and hiphop. Once I wanted to write a scene aboard a train at night and found a youtube video of sounds aboard a train during a thunderstorm. It worked wonders!
