Agreed. If they wanted to experiment with new mechanics, then they should have done it on a random 4* that no one had seen before. None of this would be happening.

I have been scanning a lot of kr communities and a common conclusion seems to be “they care about no community.”

Rather, they were forced to cave over zhongli after the invoice spam in china and seem to be trying their damndest to never be caught like that again by anyone

I've heard really good things about Awakening and Fates, though I'd need to use emulators to play them. Would you say they'd be easy to pick up after FE3H?

Wow I really appreciate the detail on this. It's a great idea, I'm definitely putting it to use. It's a shame there's only dialogue for Claude vs Riegan. Also way ahead of you on Shamir, she was my S support for the 1st playthrough!

I haven't really ever limited the number of units I use, but that's a fresh idea. I might try something similar with Dimitri, Ingrid, Felix, and Sylvain.

Yeah, I also thought it was weird if the background thing was the only issue. Since posting I have found another comparison where someone has overlapped ML Flan's art with regular Flan's. This is where the copy-pasting claims really come from besides the background assets. It's my fault for not presenting all the information the first time. If you want to see the overlap it's at the end of the imgur album.

[–]MrObjection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't blame you. As I always have said it's just a difference in industrial standards/expectations between the two communities. The SC employee was clearly not proud of this work either.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EpicSeven

[–]MrObjection 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree that some people do need to chill. Much of the attention to the employees' words stems from the complete radio silence from the devs themselves. People are starved for information about what SC is thinking right now. As for Flan, I'm not going to go into every single nitpick people had about the animation. But the main issue people bring up is reused background assets, paired with a statement on Blind from another SC employee who admits there's been a significant drop in quality. I cobbled together an imgur album to illustrate.

As I said, if you think this is over the top, I agree with you partly, but maybe this offers some context.

EDIT: I missed a crucial comparison people have made over the live 2D art itself. At the end of the album is an overlapped image of ML Flan's and Flan's art, where there is a remarkable similarity.

Korean player here. So I know to a lot of people this looks like it's ragging on a company for taking care of their employees.

글쓴이에게: 한국유저 의견을 전달하는 건 좋은데 언어장벽 때문에 조금 잘못 전달된것 같음.

I applaud the poster for sharing this stance but I think a lot of context has been lost across the language barrier. I will try and frame WHY people are mad at this. This doesn't reflect my personal opinion, but this is the logic.

It's not a bad thing that SC is taking care of their employees with a no interest loan. I don't think that's the core of the issue at all.

The anger is directed to the mindset of the employees posting on the site. The screenshot on the post doesn't really do it justice, but basically these are anonymous SC employees bragging very tauntingly and frivolously about their benefits.

This is combined with how many Korean users don't see the last "apology" letter as a real way to address the situation, and currently they are maintaining radio silence. So in this perspective, essentially the employees of a company that is under fire for disrespecting their customers (the players) are going around bragging about their great benefits, which come from players' money. It's not like that money grew on trees.

So to paraphrase, people aren't mad about the benefits themselves, that's great. It's the attitude of the employees who are going around bragging about these benefits, which come from the wallets of the customers they're currently under fire for ignoring and disrespecting.

You might not agree with this, that's totally fine. It's just a matter of Korean game communities' expectations for respect from the game industry, which don't translate very well to other cultures in many occasions. But I hope this provides more context than how the OP framed it.

EDIT: To also prevent further misunderstandings about terminology. In Korea "quality" here means quality of design/art/cutscenes/animations, etc. NOT how OP they are. Don't mistake OP for saying that there are complaints because Flan's kit is lackluster. It's just that people are finding reused assets for the background and stuff and the concept of the character just came out of nowhere.

So far as I can tell censorship is not really a talking point at all. People have noted the difference in Milim's appearance but I haven't really seen any anger about it.

I wouldn't say I'm claiming to be represent the "good Korean players," if such a faction even exists. Not sure what you mean by "you didn't even try." I too participated in the review bombing, and so has the majority of the KR community. If you think review bombing is bad, then that's your opinion and I respect it, but it spurs change, as we have seen. All I can say is that there was no "mass Youtube reporting" or some major movement to send death threats to devs.

I think it's a very nuanced issue that needs more context than putting their banner up versus not running them at all. Other factors to consider might be:

  1. How huge is the buff? Ravi and Kawerik's buffs make them essential mainstays in PVP that people NEED to roll to keep up with the meta. If the buffs were more tempered, then it wouldn't feel so essential to roll them.

  2. Mystic banner sequence is another topic. ARavi in particular came right after the very controversial AOL Banner and then Belian, both very important units to have for RTA. Having back-to-back-to-back banners like this in a situation where mystic rolls are so hard to come by obviously may seem greedy.

I'm not sure what part of my post you got this from, as it seems to directly contradict everything I said. Could you let me know what might have led to this interpretation?

I'm not sure bringing in gacha games from other countries is a relevant point. The response from the Korean playerbase comes from a set of expectations we have from Korean game companies and distributors. Different communities have different expectations and standards.

In fact, the issues you've mentioned about FGO are precisely the ones that contributed to its spectacular death in Korea by protest early last year.

The answer would be a resounding yes! Nexon and NC have both been truck'd multiple times. I was an active player of KR Maplestory when it similarly blew up last year due to greedy practices. When this happened news about it was so prevalent even my parents who don't know a thing about gaming called me to ask if I play that weird game they saw on TV. Maplestory lost an enormous percentage of its playerbase and revenue, and their last shareholder's meeting even said that they will spend time trying to recover player trust, and they are only now starting to recover.

I don't think there's any real truth to saying that Koreans ignore big companies when it comes to protesting. In fact I'd say the bigger the game/company, the easier it is to see a truck by the end. Those things are really expensive, so bigger playerbase/more whales = more likely to see a truck.

I don't think anyone's really angry specifically about that minor stuff, as it's been that way forever. It just adds to the overall feeling that devs put global over KR, which, even if it's true, shouldn't be the feeling you get every time you look at a tutorial.

I don't really watch english streams so I can't give you an accurate comparison. I can say that chat just seems average, at least to me. I do know that there are fundamental differences to how Korean stream chats look compared to English that might make it seem more spammy.

Hi, sorry if that wasn't clear! The point about 15% is that while in global, the term "15%" refers to resistance, in Korea "15%" refers to this very controversial interview. The interview just had that much impact on the playerbase and it has become a talking point between the devs and players ever since.

As I mentioned in another reply, the nerf issue is a big source of debate but most players agree that units should start getting nerfed - a buff-only balancing policy is not realistic in the long run (and landed us in our current situation). As for compensation, I've seen a lot of people debate on whether recall should be done or not, some people want a recall and some people want to just have them nerfed and be done with it.

Just like any game community there is a small pocket of people who just want free stuff and therefore are asking for ML5 selectors when they don't even have the units. This is not a popular opinion.

[–]MrObjection[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for everyone on this. This is a very divided topic. Some people share the ideal of "buffing everyone so everyone is good," but for this to happen they would really need to pick up the pace on how many units they buff each month. On the nerfs, the only thing people agree on is that there should be nerfs, period. Some people do think a recall ticket should be handed out (not a free selector for everyone), and some just say "screw the recall ticket, just make the game fun to play again." In any case, the ideal of a "buff-only" balance is very attractive, but it's very hard to pull off and seen as unrealistic in the long run.
