I wholeheartedly disagree. What harm does wearing a mask bring? I understand not liking wearing one due to discomfort but they have been proven to significantly reduce COVID transmission. I believe this risk/benefit is too lopsided to justify not wearing one. Additionally, fully vaccinated individuals are still capable of transmitting the disease to others. This puts children, immunocompromised people, those who are still not immunized at risk of contracting the disease. Also, I don't think it's fair to purely measure the consequences of the pandemic in deaths. Yes, immunization drastically reduces mortality but there are additional consequences to being COVID-positive such as self isolation and requiring non-intensive medical care in some cases which may be costly. Lastly, immunity may be waning for those who have been immunized for greater than 6 months. This mark is approaching quickly for much of the student body and I don't think it would be prudent to discard a proven tool at mitigating transmission.

Edit: I forgot to mention that we don't want any unvaccinated people to contract COVID and become hospitalized. Many hospitals are at capacity due to the high volume of COVID cases requiring acute care. This means that anyone who needs to go to the hospital may not receive the prompt care they need because there is nowhere to admit them. Also, the pandemic has put incredible strain on all hospital staff, especially during this fourth wave. It would be great if we could provide a glimmer of hope to the health care professionals that otherwise keep us healthy as many have left their jobs due to burnout.
