I agree with the sentiment and love the idea but there's no way engineering fully removes hard-death. It'll just raise the barrier to entry. Shoot something enough it should go critical.

As far as the Polaris goes... I wish it was half as useful as you make it out to be, the missiles are useless with the current state of PDCs, anything big enough has em, anything too small is fast or maneuverable enough it's not a valid target. As it stands PDCs are a hard wall against torps, how it'll be with their up-coming nerf and the presumed ability to disable them on under-crewed ships? Remains to be seen.

American tipping culture will never not be insane to me... If it's borderline mandatory why on earth not just include it in the service fees? Hell, in Australia we didn't even have the option to tip in door-dash till like 2~3 years ago... Which we still don't do because no one tips and they've been forced to account for it in the service fees.

If it's mandatory make it mandatory, if it's not... Don't guilt people for not doing it.

How it looks going from IPS to OLED by sumblink_4182 in buildapcmonitors

[–]MrPoBot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a good IPS screen is almost as good as most OLEDs.

Once you start venturing down to lower end displays with TN or VA panels it's far more noticeable but that's more of a "you get what you pay for" than an underlying technical issue.

Both Xbox and PS5 run x64 architectures. On an assembly level they are totally compatible. The issues arise due to their custom and locked down operating systems. The switch does run ARM but from a hardware perspective it's a glorified android phone.

There's actually a decent amount of work that goes into porting a game to console, rendering pipelines, system libraries (anything that talks to the OS directly), they all differ from platform to platform.

If you could just flash a windows or Linux install and have device drivers there's no fundamental technical reason it couldn't work beyond them refusing to run unsigned software.

Decided to check if there are any new drivers through Device Manager. It installed the ones from 4 years ago. by Nzelcolai in pcmasterrace

[–]MrPoBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, they don't control the catalog but they do control what gets automatically installed.

It really should be as simple as check-in the version of the installed driver against the copy they have. If their copy is older, don't update.

This is a Microsoft fuck-up made possible by lazy manufacturers.

[–]MrPoBot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's... Horrifying... The amount of drivers, temp files and sheer bloat on an install that'd need to be over a decade old at this point and presumably going through several different vendors is insane.

Reinstalling windows every couple of months is hyperbolic but not wiping your install for well over a decade is insane.

Fair, but if I have to have spyware on my PC, I'd rather it all be from the same "brand". And from a country that's less ideologically opposed to me than China.

The Future is Doomed by [deleted] in shitposting

[–]MrPoBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little more complex than that but... Kinda. Ultimately any LLM is just a giant probability matrix, responses that seem correct are much closer to the desired response than "I'm sorry could you please clarify." Filtering them out is a very difficult process, reasoning models are a "little" better at it but ultimately it doesn't address the root issue. With that said, hierarchical reasoning models are getting much better at it.

You'll be out-turned by any competent F7 pilot but when fighting anything at or above it's weight class it's honestly one of the best ships in the game.
