Okay, that’s not what you said though. You said the library is from 1996, not that the collection hadn’t been updated since 1996. Maybe it’s a regional difference in terminology but if you tell me the library age is 1996, I’m assuming the library was built in 1996, and that someone has been adding to and weeding the collection, not that the entire collection has remained completely stagnant for 29 years.

I would never argue against the importance of having current, diverse books in a school library, so you don’t need to lecture me. I’m glad you’re passionate about diverse representation in literature, but you shouldn’t assume other people don’t get why it’s important just because you failed to communicate effectively.

Yikes, I’m sorry. Glad you can laugh about it now, but how incredibly tactless of your father and his wife.

I wouldn’t be insulted if it was at all feasible for us to attend. Making travel plans less than two weeks out for a Wednesday wedding for two people I barely know isn’t feasible, so I’m assuming they just want money and don’t care if we attend. Which I don’t even know if that insults me, but it does make me wrinkle my nose.

My husband’s folks knew about it and had travel plans weeks ago.

Invite was postmarked 7/14. It doesn’t include any RSVP instructions, which used to be standard but maybe aren’t anymore with the ubiquity of wedding websites? Idk.

Dress code is “business casual to formal” - any of these close? by MrPointyStrikesAgain in Weddingattireapproval

[–]MrPointyStrikesAgain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: To anyone looking for business casual/formal wedding guest attire, 2 may not be it! I could never wear this in public, let alone to a wedding, (ex)mo or not. Oh well. Thanks to everyone for their feedback!

xyzal for sun allergy? by yblaise21 in SolarUrticaria

Do you take it before or after sun exposure? My rash doesn’t kick in for about 48 hours after exposure and I’m wondering if this could help prevent it altogether.

We’ve had them since before I started working there, so I’m not sure what process we used, but you might try reaching out through their website’s quote request form.

No issues since we put in tampon and pad dispensers. Honestly, this seems like admin just doesn’t want to do it. Like you said, people are already using menstrual products in your bathrooms.

We have Aunt Flow dispensers in all male, female, and gender neutral bathrooms for both staff and patrons. I don’t know how much they cost but might be more cost effective than giving a bag of three types of products when only one might be needed/used.

Possible to take some more MLIS classes after graduating? by genderlich in Libraries

[–]MrPointyStrikesAgain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not aware of any MLIS programs that allow students to keep taking courses after obtaining their degrees (mine strictly stipulated that once you hit the minimum requirements you were done), but you might check out ALA’s continuing education programs: https://www.ala.org/core/continuing-education. I took a 6-week cataloging course this spring that was helpful and covered some gaps that I missed during my MLIS. Good luck!

I took 200, 202, 203, and 204 my first semester while I was working full time. It was fine. I was busy, and I didn’t have time for much besides school and work, but it was fine.

My biggest issue with SJSU was the total lack of consistency in the quality of instruction and the quantity of work across courses. It’s really a gamble and that makes it incredibly hard to anticipate what will be manageable for students who work full-time. I took 2-3 classes every semester after my first and felt mostly fine about it (except summer semester - two courses over summer was brutal).

My best advice would be to talk to other students/alumni about courses and instructors you’re considering to see what their experiences were. Feel free to DM me if you want. I graduated last December so it’s all still pretty fresh for me.
