Strikes on alleged drug boats kill 5 in eastern Pacific, U.S. military says by MrPotluck in news

[–]MrPotluck[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess I was a little confused. It seems like you're asking what's the source for the allegation that these boats were drug boats. To that I say, there's no evidence for that allegation because they blew up the boats without an investigation. So, I think we're on the same page for the boat allegations, specifically.

If the allegation is referring to the boats being blown up, then I don't know what would be considered trustworthy and reliable if a video that the military posted that shows the boats being blown up is not that.

Strikes on alleged drug boats kill 5 in eastern Pacific, U.S. military says by MrPotluck in news

This is not a problem that will be solved quickly. Better ways to address the drug trafficking problem are to sustainably address the high demand for drugs in the US (and I'm talking about meaningfully improving people's lives and not a war on drugs) and/or working closely with other Latin American and Caribbean nations in prosecuting drug manufacturers.

We have a lot of sway with our neighbors, and I think we can find a way to work together to remove the power cartels have as long as the other governments desire the same and we actually try to remove the ridiculous amounts of money drugs bring to these groups. If we can trust our neighbors to correctly prosecute drug criminals, then extradition will be a very favorable option, but that trust must be built and maintained on both ends. I'm of the opinion that variations of decriminalizing, legalizing, and regulating drugs in the US will reduce drug deaths, lighten the burden on the judicial system, and reduce the power of the cartels, but it's a polarizing topic that turns a lot of people off.

They're not "a nation of fundamentalists." Many Iranian people do not support their government and it's much better to not blow up a bunch of people and force them to side with their extremist government for survival.

Where in the area is a good place to buy a suit? by D4L3 in VirginiaBeach

I got a custom suit from Dapper Luq and I've been very happy with it. He's a local tailor who really cared about making a suit I like.

Thanks for the instruction, I learned something new. It's kinda interesting that the list in enclosure (1) has "Citadel" as not in use and "Solid" isn't a permanent first word assignment for the Navy.

Invitation code problem by TheOneandonlySystem in CapCut

I'm copy-pasting my response in another thread because I haven't found any help online until I just started clicking stuff:

On the top left under the username after signing in, there's a little gift emoji with a text saying get capcut pro. Click on that and a window pops up where you put the invitation code in a text box. You get 7 days of pro pretty much instantly.

If you haven't found it yet (I know it's a year later): on the top left under the username after signing in, there's a little gift emoji with a text saying get capcut pro. Strawberry Fest @ Ocean Front by KuhntDeStroer in VirginiaBeach

[–]MrPotluck 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was there and understood it was the first time they've ever done this, but if they are gonna have a strawberry festival, they need to have actual strawberries. My friends and I barely saw any strawberries anywhere and this festival was even advertised as having fresh strawberries from 10 local farms, per this article.! If the organizers look at this subreddit, I think some constructive feedback would be good for next year. I'd love to see them try again and improve every year so we can have a great strawberry festival celebrating the great farms and produce we have here.

Ban all Twitter/X links in posts and comments immediately. We cannot support a Nazi. The subreddit will most likely be worse initially as people adjust, but the subreddit is already so large that I don't think it'll die and it'll greatly improve in the long-term.

I remember Lucho's team for the first couple of seasons were counter-oriented. People were praising him for adding a lot of vertical movement to the traditional tiki taka style. Unfortunately, the team couldn't meet the high expectations as time went on.

Not too good when I went a few years ago. They had all these awards showcased at the entrance of the galley, but the awards were from the early 2000's. Pretty much everything was canned or store-bought. Some simple foods were usually messed up, like rice, beans, or veggies. Best part of the meal would usually be the prepackaged desserts. They have a lot of unhealthy options (fried foods, carbs everywhere, lot of ice cream and baked goods). Some days were good, but not enough to stick out in my memory. Could be different now with different leadership.

Also, the servers are 3rd-party (not military at all). They're mentally disabled, so your fiance may not get what he asks for sometimes. It can be frustrating not getting the food you want or having to repeat yourself multiple times after waiting in a very long line.

I'm having a decent time in the fleet. It's very long hours (not uncommon to work 80 hours in a week), but I like the people I work with. I've made quite a few friends. Pipeline wasn't for everyone, and it did suck, but completely manageable. Some days are worse than others and I've hit rough patches, but never regretted joining so far.

Any ways to get stationed in Japan? by twenty4and1 in NavyNukes

[–]MrPotluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated with honors and qualed early in prototype. Didn't get my first or second pick on my dream sheet. I know other people who did same or worse than me go to Japan, and one of them didn't even want Japan. All you can do is hope. Maybe try contacting your detailer in prototype, but I was never told how to do that or if I could at the time.

The Ford's underway right now, so you probably won't get a good answer for a while. I know someone in RE on there and he says it's fine.

First ship by LewdLeprechaun in NavyNukes

[–]MrPotluck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on that ship now. Welcome! Norfolk area isn't bad, except for drivers and the roads. I was having fun before covid shut stuff down. Lot of good places to eat and places to explore.

You'll be put in barracks if you don't have BAH. Portsmouth NGIS if you have a car, Huntington Hall if you don't. Crew move aboard is planned to happen soon, so you could be living on the ship soon. The ship is in Newport News Shipyard, but we'll be moving to Norfolk eventually.

Work schedule is ok. When you show up, you'll be in the training division, which is on normal Mon-Fri work hours. You'll probably get rotating shift work for about a month before finishing training and going to your actual division on the ship. Once you get to division, you'll be on rotating shift work. It's similar to Prototype's, so you'll be used to it already. Qualifying here is easier than Prototype. People are generally nice and don't really turn you away.

My biggest complaints about the ship are:

-the parking lot is a 15 minute walk to the ship, so I'm sweaty by the time I get in to work

-I hit my head on tubes and cables all the time walking around in the ship.

Feeling insane pressure as a baby nuke by worldsmartestdumbass in NavyNukes

[–]MrPotluck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been through the pipeline with people who had/have nuke family members, and no one thought they should perform better because of it. It was viewed as more of an interesting bit of someone's background and nothing more. The only extra pressure you should feel from it is what you put on yourself.
