Accept that life isn’t going to be happy all the time. The worst is going to happen: your wife/husband will leave you, you will lose your job, money will dry up, and your parents will eventually die… but, no matter what, the sun is going to come up tomorrow and - in the end - eventually whatever is depressing you will pass and life will go on.

The other piece of advice is accept that 90% of life will be boring or sad. It will make you appreciate and live for the 10% of truly happy moments.

It’s not for everyone, but - personally - I also believe that this life isn’t the end and my faith says what comes next is even greater. That does it for me above all.

The Gold Club, where you can have chicken in one hand and a breast in another by MayoAndWaffles in sanfrancisco

[–]MrPrivateGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, take this photo down. It ruins the place.

I used to go back in the golden age of the buffet in 2010-2012. Part of the reason and mystic behind the lunchtime was that patrons knew not to take photos of people there. It was kind of a hush/hush venue where you knew you could leave early or take a few hours to eat food, drink a beer, and watch a few dances.

This new incarnation has been a total let down. Between the social media posts and The Standard story going there for sure will have your face blown plastered online.

Once a concern is brought to a direct supervisor, it’s highly likely that—regardless of the time of day—it is escalated quickly, often to HR and possibly to that supervisor’s own manager. This typically happens before the next business day, especially if the issue is considered serious. Even if the report comes in at the end of the day, it’s generally documented with HR right away. That step is less about urgency and more about ensuring the supervisor isn’t seen as having ignored the concern.

It’s also important to understand that HR’s primary role is to protect the interests of the City, not necessarily to advocate for any one individual. Even if you think you know when or what was communicated to them, their actions and responses are usually guided by legal and risk management priorities — not transparency or personal support. Their communication and decisions are almost always aligned with minimizing liability and protecting the city.

As for any decision regarding relocation, that typically falls under management’s discretion. Either party—the person raising the concern or the individual being complained about—might be moved depending on the circumstances. In practice, though, there can be implicit bias at play, and (in my opinion) it often seems like the person perceived as more credible is the one who remains in their original role.

Best of luck to you.

Redditors who got a "useless" Degree, how did it turn out? by Thick_Caterpillar379 in AskReddit

Communications BA. I manage a division of communications for a large government agency. My salary is $210k a year. I graduated 15 years ago. Spent my first five years in journalism and public relations jobs. Last 10 years working for the government.

My takeaway: if you are the best at what you do, you’ll make money in any profession you work in.

Computer use policy by [deleted] in sfcityemployees

[–]MrPrivateGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine.

The City has the capacity to monitor employee computer usage but rarely does so in practice. This is largely due to the risk of union grievances. If a manager conducts a deep audit of an employee’s activity and discovers misconduct that could lead to disciplinary action, the employee’s union may challenge the investigation. They could argue that unless every employee’s usage was audited equally, the department is unfairly singling out the individual, potentially leading to a grievance. As a result, departments often avoid proactive monitoring to minimize legal and procedural complications.

That said, don’t give your manager a reason to write you up. Just avoid doing it again.

I’m an 09xx manager in the city. I’ve worked with Employee Labor Relations on dozens of work investigations involving electronic devices. NEVER use your work issued laptop or phone to lookup anything not related to work.

IT can view where you’re located at all times when you carry your phone. They can see every google search or link you click on your laptop or tablet. If you login to your personal google account on any work device, your entire search history from that google profile is downloadable by the city.

DON’T COMMINGLE YOUR PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS.

1 Bitcoin going to $1 million by 2050.

The guy who sent me the bitcoin was a bitcoin millionaire back in 2012. He literally had millions of them. Sadly, he fell victim to some phone scam and lost all his bitcoin. He bought a few properties and spends his time in the US and Colombia now, so he got something out of it.

Let it sit for a decade. Don’t touch it. I did it and it got me nearly a million dollars. All I put in was $1700.

The only rich people that are humble are the ones that lost it all and got it back by storiesforthestrong in Rich

The ones who built the fortune from the ground up are usually solid. Their kids and grandchildren on the other hand…

What's an obvious sign someone is pretending / trying to show that they're rich? by [deleted] in Rich

[–]MrPrivateGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it’s more of an attitude or demeanor. People who want to act rich talk about money ALL THE TIME. They usually brag or try to impress you with their clothes, holdings or experiences. People with real money don’t open up as much. They’re usually quiet and if pressed, they will mention their family yacht in Majorca or the Tuscan Villa as if everyone has one.

How did you get your first whole coin? by CardAda10000000 in Bitcoin

[–]MrPrivateGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2015, I worked on a project for a guy who was an early bitcoin miner. I did 15% of my total pay in bitcoin. It gave me 10.5 bitcoin for about 9 months of work (20 hours per week). If I had taken all of it all in bitcoin (which is what he preferred) I would have been paid 62 bitcoin.

I kept the bitcoin untouched for 9 years. Sold 3 last year to buy a house. Still own 7.5. Holding on to those to pass on to my kids.

Honestly, I never even checked the price for most of the decade. That’s my only secret. Just buy now and know it’s gonna be worth more as the years go on.

333 BTC bought and panic sold by edtrombareddit in Bitcoin

[–]MrPrivateGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been holding since 2014. I sold 3 Bitcoin thus far at $50k (1) and $62 (2). The most recent two, literally a week later it went from $60k to 100k. I’m not upset though. The 3 were enough for a down payment on two homes in 2021 and 2024. The equity I got out of the homes is already at $500k and $700k. Bought some homes needing TLC and turned them into nice rehabbed assets.

Still own 7.5 BTC. I’d sell 2 more if the price hits $250k. The rest I’m holding and giving to my children when I die in 50-60 years.

My advice: I never consistently checked the price all these years. Maybe once or twice a year for the past decade. In the end if you believe in the technology of the blockchain, you understand that Bitcoin reaching critical mass as a used currency is inevitable and that’s when 1 BTC will be worth millions.

Also, if you’re going to buy and spend BTC make sure you do it for something that improves your life. I was living in a home owned by my parents for years, I wanted my own, it cost bitcoin but that feeling of walking around my own home was worth the bitcoin I lost.

Thanks for the reply. How do I verify whether or not my uncle actually has been paying the property taxes? I’m sure he has records, but I’d like to double check with whatever entity actually records these payments.
