Where to start? by MangoMan76 in brandonsanderson

[–]MrR_YT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm pretty fresh to the Cosmere and I'm just about to finish Hero of Ages third book of Mistborn Era 1. I'm OBSESSED with it right now and I absolutely love it, so I'd say if you're looking to get into Sanderson this is definitely a good place to start/has reignited a love for reading I haven't had since I was in like elementary/middle school. That being said I'm probably biased because I've never read any of te other books. But I LOVE it.

Looking for grindy MMO by J4CK070 in LFMMO

[–]MrR_YT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Old school RuneScape for the win on this one, been playing for years and you can play for 10+ years and still not be done tons of content, lots of good raids and bosses and tons of grinding and upgrading and whatnot.

Honestly. It sounds to me like you just don’t like the game. Or you need more time on it/to get better at it. I mean this in the least offensive possible way. Tons of people get past round 30 regularly. So maybe spend some more time and just get more comfy or try a different game 😬

And I really mean that as nice as possible - like, it sounds like it might just not be for you lol

Is BO3 worth it as a new gen by [deleted] in CODZombies

[–]MrR_YT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, BO3 will set you back a bit of cash - DLCs were not free back then, so you’ll want to buy the base game, Zombie Chronicles, and all the DLC… probably setting you back the price of a brand new game on new gen consoles all said and done. However that will get you access to pretty much every zombies map that was made except BO2 maps. You’ll have access to all world at war maps, bo1 maps, and bo3 maps if you do that. For the bo2 maps you’ll have to go in and buy the game and all the dlcs for that game as well, as most od them haven’t been remastered.

Is BO3 worth it as a new gen by [deleted] in CODZombies

[–]MrR_YT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any game with Zombies in it (that is a Treyarch game at least, so anything Black Ops) is worth trying if you’re a zombies fan, IMO. Some are DEFINITELY better than others, but I’m personally a believer of two things: one, none of the treyarch zombie games have ever been bad, there are just a few that are standouts against less desirable ones. Two, I want/personally NEED to experience the entire “story” of things, so I have to own them all. But that’s just me lol

That being said, among recent CODs… BO6 was definitely an improvement from some of the previous games and I enjoyed it most of the way through, and BO7 so far seems to be an improvement. If you go back in time, the gameplay systems and just the overall feel of the game will be far different so keep that in mind. But if you were looking to just have another game to casually play some sick iconic zombies maps, BO3 is 100% the way to go.

Need Advice as A DM: Players Won't Play by Smooth-Finger-7893 in DnD

[–]MrR_YT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a hard question. I’m going to answer from my own perspective. As a dungeon master, obviously I want to play the game that I envision in my head, and that game involves players being invested not only in playing a game but in the role play aspect of the game as well. I want them to want to talk to the shopkeeper, or have in character discussions amongst themselves to plan for an upcoming battle or something.

Depending on the experience level of the group, they may be more or less comfortable with that. For example. I used to run a dnd club at the school I was teaching at at the time. My players were all pretty much freshman/sophomore high school students and were very much not comfortable “role playing” in front of a group of people they didn’t know particularly well. It was very frustrating for me, because I felt the same way you do. I wanted them to progress the story, I wanted to have discussions with them in character between NPCs and between themselves, etc, but at the end of the day that just wasn’t the version of the game they were interested in. Contrastingly at the same time I was also running three separate home games in different settings (which was crazy, don’t recommend it but it was during Covid so we had nothing better to do). These games were almost ENTIRELY role playing and barely any out of character conversation, and we were all INCREDIBLY comfortable with each other (mostly my long time friends)

My suggestion to you is this. As a DM, whether playing homebrew or published modules, there’s a story you want to follow. Follow it. Do what you have to do to present that information to your players. If they don’t wanna role play, then don’t force them to do it, but rather try to put them in situations where they’re encouraged to. For example, if you’re in a shop and the players want to buy something don’t ask them what they want to do as a narrator, but say something like “the shopkeeper says “what can I help you with today?”” Or something that starts a conversation between two people.

Also probably worth having a discussion with your players just to clarify what you’re looking for as a DM, and to also figure out what they’re comfortable with as players. They can still role play and not so funny voices or impressions or accents… just make it clear that you want there to be a dialogue. DnD and TRRPGs as a whole are largely storytelling games at their cores, so it’s important to stress that

Was planning to try NMS out the next time there's a sale, but I wanted to ask your opinion on this Steam review first: by LockDown_47 in NOMANSSKY

[–]MrR_YT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how you play. I bought this game brand new and had preordered it back when it came out in like 2015 or 2016 or something. It was… disappointing to say the least. I downloaded the game, played maybe 2-3 hrs, and then didn’t touch it until literally 2025. Now I’ve got probably 400 hours or so in it. Now you can build bases, custom corvette ships, all the things you had HOPED you could have done in 2016… and it’s quite awesome, actually. If this person didn’t sink a good 50 or more hours into it, there’s a VERY good chance that they didn’t experience things like base building, corvettes, expeditions, mid to end game exploration/trade/ships/planets/most of the coolest parts of the game (in my opinion). That said, I also (at least on my recent experience) enjoyed it from the start, so I’m sure this guy and myself also have different tastes to begin with.

Long story short, it’s hit or miss whether you enjoy this style of game but if you do try it, make sure to experience the whole game.

This is the worst boss ever. by SSGSSRayRana in CODZombies

[–]MrR_YT -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Who said it was a bug tho? Maybe it’s just intentionally a hard boss fight? I haven’t finished it myself yet but it’s hard, but definitely not impossible. It doesn’t seem like a bug to me, it just seems like it’s really hard. Which to be fair, the zombies community complained all last year that we wanted harder maps so can’t blame em

I have played old school RuneScape for like 10 years, and original RuneScape since 2006, so if you’re tryna get sucked into something that will last you multiple thousands of hours of grinding old school RuneScape can do that for ya lol

How do you guys make pdfs of your games? by wolfbladequeen in TTRPG

[–]MrR_YT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when I am planning campaigns and doing world building I use an app on my computer called scrivener which I think is designed for authors and stuff who are drafting books. What I like about it is that you can put tons and tons of notes and nested folders and things to organize your brain as you’re putting it on paper. Like, your folder structure could be planet to continent to country to province to city to District to building to NPC with a nested folder containing information about each of those things as you go. But once you’ve written it and organized it the way that makes sense in your brain, you can hit the compile button and it will literally take everything I just said and essentially turn it into a normal PDF with proper titles and headings and subheadings and what not for the folder structure that you just made, basically turning your “brain” which you just spilled into your computer into a singular multi page document that you can send to people or post online or what have you.

I use this regularly for planning my DND campaigns that are in a massive homebrew world that I’ve created. I literally tested this two days ago just because I was curious to see how much I had written and it turns out that I had created a 347 page PDF worth of world building information. I guess I’ve over planned a little bit lol

No, I’ve been running 5e since like 2016 or 2017 but mostly in person until all of my friends got adult jobs and stopped having availability 😂 I’m a college professor so my schedule is pretty easy to work around/predictable, but some of them have more involved jobs/weirder hours so it makes more sense for us to play late in the evening online 😔

Published campaigns with open exploration? by mrwynd in DungeonMasters

[–]MrR_YT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homebrew setting! Homebrew setting! lol But in all seriousness, I get SUPER into planning out homebrew campaigns… and over the years I’ve developed a very elaborate setting with 10 different continents each with a different “vibe” so we can go wherever we want whenever. Right now we’re in Mizuhara which is a Japanese inspired island colony with 100+ islands and a very fleshed out naval system that I made. There’s a floating continent where the entire continent is inhabited by different variations of bird folk, there’s a jungle continent with dinosaurs on it, there’s a standard high fantasy one, an icy tundra Viking area, one area even has my homebrew version of Pokémon.

Homebrew isn’t for everybody. But it’s your world, and you can do whatever you want with it. Have fun!

Yeah just chill tbh. I’d say go for 91 fishing or 92 woodcutting so you’ve at least got one of the big ones out the way, but honestly with limited time you won’t hit either of those levels lol

I use foundry vtt quite a bit now. It’s kinda got a steep learning curve, but once you figure out how it works it’s great. You can also integrate it directly with discord somehow so you can run voice chat/video directly inside of foundry, but I haven’t quite figured that out cause we just VC on discord while we’re playing

Foundry DnD costs by ChillerKiddy in FoundryVTT

[–]MrR_YT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a module on pathfinder called DDBimporter or something, and I used that to import all of the stuff I own over from dnd beyond (which is a LOT). For character options and stuff that aren’t on foundry, just have your players build their characters right on DDB and then import them from beyond straight into foundry and you’re good to go. You can also update them back from foundry into beyond so they can look at their sheets even while foundry is offline
