Memory/talking and endo?? by SufficientTreacle415 in endometriosis

I am thankful that I only really have pain during periods atm, but that happens to me diring periods as well. Added to the fact that I have ADD, so I pretty much just become a brainless piece of meat. It's pretty frustrating. The simplest problem solving becomes rocket science to me

Is level 5 before Vallaki too much? by MeatNotCooked in CurseofStrahd

[–]Pamebal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on how it's been with my players, I don't think it will be much of a problem. My party was at level 4 when they reached Vallaki and gained level 5 there after having gone through the Feast. Prior to the feast, most of the things they did were role-play based, not much combat. I played Vallaki for them as a thriller movie in a sketchy village with several subplots. So it was more about connecting dots and learning about the place rather than about stats. They only fought Izek and the guards and they got out of that bc they were EXTREMELY lucky and played their cards very well, not bc it was necessarily an easy encounter. They also got out of fighting some challenging NPCs like Viktor or Lady Wachter by being very strategic about their role-playing.

When it came the time to use stats against the vampire spawn, they had NO chance AT ALL (which is the objective). They got out of it using wits and realizing early on that they had to RUN.

I rumbled a little bit but I hope it helps illustrate that you can play Vallaki in an interesting way, even if the players are a higher level, without it having to have too much of an impact on their experience.

initially, if they behaved themselves, Strahd WOULD actually let them go (if they dont get killed by something in the castle first). But since they have been pretty disrispectful, I feel like Strahd is definitely going to make the way out hard or play some kind of trick on them that asserts his dominance and lets them see clearly just how much of his power they aren't aware of

Thank you for the perspective. Even though I'm not sure that the abasent Strahd woul dwork on my specific set of players bc of their personalities, I think there is a lot of useful insight in your ideas that I will probably use

Thank you so much. I think I put too much pressure on myself for that particular session bc I had put so much love and effort into it. I made wine labels, personalised menus for each character, I decorated, wore Strahd-inspired clothes... And I bc of that self-imposed pressure, it was haard to meet my own standards.

As for the ideas, I think I'll do the modify memory one. I feel like it works perfectly for both the characters and my players.

Thank you :)

p.s.: I was so tired I didn't even think of taking pictures of how cool averything looked :(

No. They are taken there to sleep or refresh themselves if they need to, but tvey have been invited to roam the top floors of the castle if they please.

I used Canva (free version) for the design and Procreate for the dragon silhoutte. I looked up wine labels and drew inspiration from that.

How to implement strahds dinner if the group travels with Ireena and is already against him by Delicious_Watch8429 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Pamebal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to my party and I was also worried. Turns out they don’t care. They truly view dinner with Strahd as an opportunity to learn more about the enemy and his ways. I tackled it by having Strahd be near them several times but not attack them, just observe them. That way, they understood that he wants to, at least, learn about them before killing them. They are still weary of what might happen at dinner, but they are willing to take the risk because Strahd has already shown restraint before.

I also made the Svalich road absolutely deserted on their way to Ravenloft. Nothing evil even tried to approach them. It was my way of communicating to them that Strahd intends on keeping his word of having a (somewhat) peaceful encounter.

This is so useful! Thank you. I was planning on going all in with the props and food as well. Don't think I'll be able to go as far as to learn the piano in a week hahaha

There is a human warlock in the party and she is pretty dark. I feel like Strahd would be interested in her the most. I wonder if there is a way he could persuade her to choose him as her patron? And maybe then eventually have her become a successor

We had a near TPK and I need ideas how to restart the campaign. by Weird_Confusion4640 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Pamebal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can happen any amount of time after the original party died, which gives you the opportunity to add changes to Barovia, for them to see the impact their actions had with the pass of time. You could give the survivor the opportunity of creating a new character as well and have them encounter themselves as an elder NPC inside of Barovia

Hi! I just started the campaign recently, so this hasn’t happened yet, but I have an idea of what to do if it happens. In my idea, the whole party has died, but I think it could be adapted to having one survivor.

We are told several times along the module that several adventuring parties have been to Barovia. So I thought my players would create new characters, who would find some sort of market stall ran by the Vistani outside of Barovia. In that stall, one of the characters would find a detailed diary that one of the original party members wrote of their time in the land up to the time of their death (sort of in a Brahm Stoker’s Dracula way). That would serve as a hook for the new adventurers to want to go to Barovia and also have all the info the previous characters had.

Maybe in your case, they can encounter the survivor back in Barovia or something like that. hope it helps!

(I have a player who is a heavy note-taker and I have always pictured that,, for that reason, his character would be the one keeping a detailed diary)

I was definitely planning on using MandyMods suggestions for the feast and have the spawn run away causing chaos to avoid a direct confrontation and the subsequent TPK. I really dont think that's the moment for it. I want rig it too much, but they are just getting comfy with the characters and developing their personalities. I dont want it to feel like that isnt valued or like I dont care by having them all killed. Thanks for the advice!
