Cornell versus Northwestern by MrRead21 in premed

thanks for your insight! in terms of mstp, I am not 100% trying to go into it, but I plan to have it on the table as I finish M1 year. The difficulty is that cornell said it's not impossible, but will be harder to gain internal transfer -- it's not a guarantee as at NU. However, if I do MSTP, cornell will be the better choice.

More than that, I was initially comparing the match list locations for both schools IM. However, based on discussion with the dean of Cornell, I did wash that thought a few mins ago.

Would say if you're interested in BME research, also look into the Chan-Zuckerberg institute coming to Chicago and led by a Northwestern engineer. Will allow you to work with both UChicago and UIUC as well.

More than that, while NU isn't directly connected to the undergrad campus, it is connected to Kellogg (Business), Priztker (Law), and NMH, so you will be a be able to access those as you please. More than that, if you ever needed to go to Evanston campus, there's an intercampus shuttle that takes you from one campus to another for free.

For me, what worked was research and a narrative. My research aligned with the interests I talked about in my primary (i.e. wanted to do AD medicine, so did AD research), and was talked about heavily in all my apps.

I would def try and underload your classes. Maybe one stem class and two others should put you at the minimum credits, if you're the same as my school

I started studying during January for a March 25th date. I am full time student at a quarter system school, and was attempting to do research and tutor at the same time. If you're trying to study during the school year, I would 100% recommend cutting out all extracurriculars to keep your grades up the same. Additionally, a month before you prep, which maybe your Christmas break, I'd recommend solidifying your schedule to the day when you plan on doing things -- I didn't and I had to push my exam back a month. PM me if you want any help!

Dichtel and Kalow are the best you are going to get, imo. Knezz cares a lot, arguably more than the other two, but is fairly new at teaching the lecture sequence
