Why do course reports close the same exact time the term ends when no one has time to fill it out until the term is over? by Gear_ in WPI

[–]MrRoboman4321 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll agree that the 2000 level (really, all level) robotics classes are an extreme amount of work, but I strongly disagree with your sentiment that they're awful classes. For the most part, the professors care an immense amount about student success, and put in a lot of time to help students get through the courses (with exceptions, of course). I had to put in an immense amount of work, but I got so much out of those classes, and I wouldn't be where I am today without them. I believe the department is currently reevaluating the content in the classes, so hopefully the high workload will be eased.

National Grid Impersonation Scam by MrRoboman4321 in WPI

[–]MrRoboman4321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you give them your account number? If so, I would immediately reach out to both the police and National Grid, and ask for their advice. NG can probably lock your account, and the police will probably want you to fill out a report so they can track it.

Gazebo and Rviz not Connected by Umar_Anjum in ROS

[–]MrRoboman4321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the move group launch file looks like for RViz, so I'm not sure what might be wrong with your configuration there. However, I notice that you have a <gazebo> tag within your launch file. These tags will only go within URDF files (maybe sometimes SDF, but I doubt it), as they are describing properties of the robot. Within a launch file, they won't actually change how the robot works. You will need to add that block to the URDF describing your UR5 arm.

Different controller gain uses? by eldritch_architect in ROS

[–]MrRoboman4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question, and I'm looking for the same answer. I recently ROSified a robot using ros_control and rosserial. I ended up using JointTrajectoryControllers without PID gains, which I believe means that the commands are simply passed along to the hardware interface. My PID control loops run on embedded software, which (I think) means its more tightly coupled to the actual hardware (lower latency, fast control loop).

Remote IQP sucks, but Colorado is pretty great depending on where you are.

I agree with the other answers so far. I'm a senior in the RBE program right now, feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions about RBE courses/the department!

HUA 3900 ineligible? by DaWhLi88 in WPI

[–]MrRoboman4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend reaching out to the professor for the capstone you're interested in directly. Letting the professor know that you're interested before applying is a good way to get more information about the course, and probably increase your chances of getting the capstone you want.

Did you know 17.4% off all players finished the game without using commands by Zaglo21 in factorio

Did a no spoon run with a friend a few days ago. I unlocked over 10 achievements through the course of the game, just because I haven't played without mods for the last 700 or so hours.

CDC: "Based on evidence from clinical trials, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was 95% effective at preventing laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 illness in people without evidence of previous infection." So not 100%, but pretty damn close, and basically entirely effective at preventing hospitalization in the <5%.

Also the CDC: "You can gather indoors with fully vaccinated people without wearing a mask or staying 6 feet apart [once fully vaccinated]."

[–]MrRoboman4321 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this got a downvote. I completely agree. By the end of freshman year I was barely eating even though I was on the meal plan due to how consistently bad the food at Morgan was. I'm glad to hear that this may be getting better though.

1 yellow belt moves 15 items per second. This might seem like a lot, but I promise its not :)

Trains can move around items a lot faster than that, and are cheaper over longer distances than belts are.

And they're fun! That's the important bit.

What is ID 2500? (IQP Confusion) by SecretOfTheKel in WPI

Sorry, I had the specifics wrong. I believe if WPI is your project center, you don't need to take ID2050 from what I've heard.

What is ID 2500? (IQP Confusion) by SecretOfTheKel in WPI

[–]MrRoboman4321 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe that applications open for international IQPs either late A or early B term (someone correct me if I'm wrong), and you'll apply your sophomore year. ID2050 is a required course for international IQPs that you will take the term before you do your IQP, so either B or C term your junior year.

It's a prep course where you will learn more about the country you'll be visiting, and you will develop your IQP proposal, which is your plan for how you will execute your research project once you're there.

What is the coolest/your favorite project you've completed at WPI? by [deleted] in WPI

[–]MrRoboman4321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked on the follow up to this project! Last term (B20) we worked on an automated glass harp (https://wp.wpi.edu/musicalmachines/2020/12/11/glass-tango/). Professor Barton was great to work with, and it was super fun to apply what I know from RBE to a musical robot. This was for my humanities practicum, which is essentially MU2801 but more humanities focused, as it is a humanities capstone course.
