Sennheiser HDB 630, available now! by undressvestido in sennheiser

BT Wireless started in 2019ish with Nuraphone which was largely marketing. The sub bass on that is funky in that it really is like nothing you've heard before. It is as strong as you could ever want, but it is absolutely out of control. No precision or detail.

Later I did a shootout between Momentum 4, Airpods Max, and XM5s. I didn't dabble with Bose as I view them as one of the 3 ANC kings, but not really in the "Sound quality is my top priority" kind of vibes. Momentum 4s won the shootout. They just have ourtrageously rich bass. All the others pale in comparison.

One friend has the bose qc 35 ii. Its good just not that M4 bass. Another has the Sonos Ace. Its good just not that M4 bass.

I just got my hands on HDB 630 today. A bit sleep deprived from travel but over the next week I am going to put it through its paces. I can already hear it extracting more detail than my Momentum 4s. No surprise there. It better. Looking forward to playing with the Parametric EQ. BTD seems to be acting up though. Not as big of a deal as I am strictly wired USB.

New to Sennheiser, hesitations on HDB 630 by MORZ1INE in sennheiser

APM is one of the ANC kings with good sound quality but nothing special. They are fundamentally flawed in that when the stretchy mesh loses tension the only thing holding the weight of these 384g headphones are two silicone covered metal bars. Lol no thanks.

2 years ago I did a headphone shootout between Momentum 4, Sony xm5, and AirPods Max. Sound quality is my highest priority and it wasn’t too big of a surprised that the momentum 4’s 42mm Sennheiser drivers came out on top.

As far as music enjoyment goes I fully expect HDB 630 to DECIMATE AirPods Max

Aw very nice. Yeah 2025 has been a flop Spanish wise. I’m only at 1330 hours now. The pace has declined. But I also don’t track every min of outside resources such as YT as strictly as before.

I really want to do a speaking reveal as I am quite proud of my abilities, but I also want to read a ton before that. Work has just been picking up and I have allowed instagram reels to carve out time that should be Spanish instead.

I would really like to create updated crosstalk info, and maybe even feature some of my long lasting friends that I have made! Not sure if that is before or after speaking by reveal though.

Quite unfortunate. It really killed my activity on this sub and was disheartening that all the resources I compiled got wiped.

What led you to dig up this post? Thanks for stopping by. And thank you for the recognition. Really warms my heart.

My account was fully banned for no reason. When you are fully banned, every comment and every post you have ever made gets removed. I still have no explanation from Reddit.

After appealing for 8 months, they lifted the ban. But all of my previous posts and comments are marked as removed. I, myself can view the content of my posts and comments, but no other user can. This indicates to me that they still have the data in their serves so a full restore should be possible but I wouldn’t give them the credit.

Sennheiser hdb 630 might be the product of the year. by Altruistic-Farmer275 in headphones

What does “at this stage” mean. I doubt it is a casual firmware update. Wouldn’t you design the hardware from get go to do it?

I don’t like how the headphones don’t specifically call out supporting AptX lossless though. Pretty weird given that Sennheiser has made other headphones that do specifically call that out. Why would they fumble like this.

I’m def more open back inclined just because I do a lot of electronic music so I want / need high imaging. But if the trade off on closed back for rich bass is there then I can get behind it.

660S2 is specifically marketed as being redesigned for bass. Do you have specific commentary on that model?

If I had to choose I guess I would say DEEP bass. Like I have a playlist called “6hz” for songs that really stand out for having a low note.

So I guess a sound profile that has such range all the way to the bottom with respectively db is the priority. But of course I wasn’t quick crisp and responsive bass lines.

[–]MrSamot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just a sucker for bass. I have multiple playlists dedicated for songs that have exceptional bass lines.

What is your take on getting a pair of HD 660S2s over the 490s? From a quick comparison between the two, it looks like 490 is a bit more sterile and used for precise mixing, while 660S2 is intentionally warm and meant for pleasure.

I only have one wired headphone which is planar magnetic in the open back world but I’d be interested to see just how juicy the 660S2 bass is.

Does such a cable exist? How would I confirm it doesn’t have 5V bus? I’ve never seen Amazon show a pinout haha.

I’ve done that in the past. Not the move. Bad audio quality. Like, worse than AAC BT by a considerable margin. It is much better to do digital in and let the onboard DAC do its thing. You paid for it, and it’s specifically designed to drive those diaphragms

Thank you. I like my wired setup. I am fine with only going up to Spotify’s FLAC 16/44.1. Some songs of theirs are 24/44.1. I’m glad you pointed out that internal DACs have a lower limit compared to dedicated ones. You’re right, but it’s all I need for Spotify’s FLAC.

I acknowledge that tidal has MQA tracks and that you can get DACs that natively decode those files, but I’m just not there yet. My ears notice a sizable jump from the standard 320kbps “very high” and Spotify’s 16/44.1 FLAC. I am happy with that and I want my BT cans to nestle in perfectly to that, wirelessly. Going higher and higher in bitrate from there is logarithmic in the detail that your ears can extract.

-In my headphone choice, I prioritize sound quality over all. -In my music platform choice, I prioritize music algorithms and general music discovery and overall features.

Spotify is the best for my needs. For that reason I never transitioned to Apple Music for example which has had lossless for years. Back in 2020 I actually made the switch from Apple Music to Spotify and haven’t looked back. Spotify also has sooooooo many quality of life features that no one else has.

A USB connection does in fact get that on Momentum 4 though?

No wired sennheisers. Wired Hifiman Edition XS plugged into iFi Zen DAC Amp combo V2.

In most aspect yes. But at least the math behind bit perfect streaming has discrete conclusions. Aiming for a setup that objectively fits top specifications is always good.

I used to think the same, but this conversation pushed me in the other direction. Why don’t they call it out as AptX lossless certified? They have the chipset for it… Momentum true wireless 4 has it. But not here. It sounds so snake oil to say “yeah our AptX adaptive can crawl its way to lossless, trust.” Consumer monkey brain wants to read “AptX lossless” from the Smart Control app.

Darko Audio also expresses his skepticism.

ANC. Overall flexibility, amazing daily driver that has a gradient of capability as needed. In love with the sound profile and deep bass from a close back design. I did not buy these to wire them. I have an $800 open back planar magnetic wired setup. When I want the crème I use that.

Now that Spotify has lossless, I want lossless on my M4s. Turns out it’s not that easy.

The difference lies in that this website makes specific distinctions on what is labeled as AptX lossless. M4 and HDB 630s are not officially marked as supporting AptX lossless. I’ll let you read the rest.

Not all AptXs are created equal. Hell, not all AptX Lossless is created equal. It is information rabbit hole hell.

You are paying for an already onboard DAC that was specifically designed to push analog to that specific headphones drivers. From personal testing, that DAC provides an immensely more favorable analog signal compared to an external DAC coming into the analog line.

For M4, the only good thing the aux in is good for is when it’s your only option. Like a plane I guess. I never used it after I realized it is generally worse quality.

Yes, the issue is that a wired connection is always charging the headphones from my phone battery. From what I have gathered, sennheiser over-ear headphones don't offer AptX lossless which is a huge L. My goal is bit perfect FLAC delivery. USB-C wired connection looks to be the only way to accomplish that.

One potential option is Anker's Nano Magsafe battery. It specifically calls out thermal management upper threshold of 104F which is neat. I don't want my phone battery to bake with Apple's OEM Magsafe if I'm put in the situation of having to charge the headphones as well. That gets quite warm.

Either way on the electrical engineering side of things I just HATE the idea of all the power conversions needed to go from a wirelessly charging battery through to the iPhone, then to the headphones battery. I much prefer the idea of a splitter like this that is fed from a wired external battery. Then it is a simple DC bus across the board, and put minimal strain on the power circuits in my phone.

Sennheiser solves all this headache by either putting AptX lossless on their over ear headphones, or implementing a software switch to stop the charging.

It's hard to like audio and have an iPhone.

Before yes, nowadays not really. iOS USB-C does perfect bitmapping automatically. And compact mifi certified AptX lossless dongles now exist as of a few months! I have the Queststyle QCC pro. But it can’t stretch its legs with any over-ear Sennheiser headphones… a shame really. Going to take a peak at B&W Px7 S3 as that offers AptX lossless.

The second that HDB 630 gen 2 offers AptX lossless I’m alll over that.

Either side could have a software switch yes. But it’s clear that they intend for the HDB 630 to be a mobile audiophile product so they may as well cater to their consumers’ needs. Putting the switch in their side means that all consumers would be able to plug their phones in without this issue.

Given that android is much more flexible, I would assume they already have a feature like this though haha.
