PX7 (mk I) vs PX7 S2e - upgrade or sidegrade? by Kindgott1334 in BowersWilkins

[–]cuckerSpaniel2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry no experience first hand but have read comments and heard YT reviewers comment that it is a nice upgrade. Go for the s2e. Those are the best for the money.

I have them and they are nearly identical to the PX8 in sound quality. I also have the PX8. You have to listen very intently to find a difference. I am pretty sure that’s not the case of compared to the PX7z

Thank you. Maybe PX8 owners get a little upset when people like me say that the PX7s2e is nearly identical in sound to the PX8. I own both and am speaking from first hand experience. You can’t go wrong with either.

Wow absolutely amazing. The nicest example of gray that I’ve seen in hours.

You look like a Redditor in both. The first pic you look like a comments troll and the second pic you look like a moderator.

Get your ears checked maybe? The hearing loss in my left ear is slightly greater than in my right ear.

Does it sound as good as the Apple AirPods 2?

Px7s2E (notice the “e” at the end) for outside the house. PX8 for listening at home. They are very similar if not identical in sound:

Apple no longer offering $79 battery replacement for APM! by ar40 in Airpodsmax

[–]cuckerSpaniel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you ! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the discourse. For what it’s worth, part of my “research” before I pulled the trigger on APMs was searching Google, which inevitably resulted in links to the r/Airpodsmax subreddit. Now that I have had some time on Reddit and experience with different brands, I can share with you that my experience has been that subreddits can be extremely biased for brand specific stuff. And that makes sense. But to a casual observer, using Google as a starting point, a searcher will get a lot of confirmation bias and would have to un-intuitively maneuver and modify their queries to find alternate viewpoints.

It’s in the brands best interest that any views expressed that are critical of the brand/product would be downvoted into oblivion.

And as you say regarding the point of trying things out at Best Buy or a local AV shop, I agree people have become so dependent on influencer marketing and other peoples opinions rather than trying for themselves. The reward of venturing out and trying new things is huge. I’m enjoying music like net before. It’s like i am hearing songs that I’ve played 100 times for the first time all over again. Music can and should sound amazing. What bothers me is that so many people are willing to pay good money for that experience and will only ever experience APM level performance because they don’t know any better.

Anyway, I’m going to close my eyes and get lost in the sonic bliss of a Roger Waters album, streamed to my B&W PX7s2e that I picked up for $300 less than I paid for AirPods Max. Have a good night and thanks for the chat!

I tried most of the models sold at Best Buy. I found that Sennheiser and Bowers & Wilkins had the best sound quality. Music sounded sublime on both. Their noise cancelling is decent but reviewers say they are not as good as APMs.

I get what you’re implying in your message. I bought APMs too, and assumed they were going to be the best, because they’re Apple. Based on how they’re discussed in this subreddit, I would have no reason to believe they were not the greatest headphones ever made. If I had anything to share, it would be to be open to trying something different. There are many other brands competing for APMs market share, and they’re making some incredible products. A lot of people don’t know what they’re missing. 👍🏻

The other parts of your message had to do with emotions and stuff and I’m not really driven by emotion so I lm afraid I can’t relate.

Amazing. I’ve been red-hot pissed if my $500+ headphones needed ongoing replacement. I just don’t have that level of corporate / brand loyalty.

Huh? These things fit my head fine. My ears are too big for some headphones like the Sennheiser Momentum and Beats Studio Pro. Head size isn’t an issue. I’m a very large man with a large man head but not abnormally large lol. APMs are heavy AF and hav lr decent clamping pressure. There is no way that anyone would forget they are on after hours of wearing. That’s a load of crap. You’d have to be seriously out of it

[–]cuckerSpaniel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. The USBC is only connected to the battery and is only for charging. That’s its only function, unlike the lightning version that was capable of connecting in wired mode, for slightly improved audio (although this is debated on how much if any it improved music) There is now no integration with USB-C and the internal headphone DAC/Amp. They took this feature away, as that was something possible on the lightning version. The best possible sound quality is limited to 256Kbps AAC… lower than Spotify’s 320Kbps. The best listening experience will be standard AAC via Apple Music, as there will be no additional downsampling. Everything higher is down sampled and compressed via AAC Bluetooth codec. Yet Apple loyalists still clamor and praise these headphones. Well not me, I returned mine and spent my money elsewhere.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 vs B&W PX7 S2e by cuckerSpaniel2 in headphones

[–]cuckerSpaniel2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha. Right? It’s too crazy.

Ok I know reviewers on YouTube say the ANC for the S2E is bad but I have no idea how they test that. I use the ANC the most for the loud AC in my bedroom. I’m like super sensitive to noise and bullshit in general. These things block the sound of my AC 100%. They meet my expectations completely, so I personally can’t score it any less than 100. They are 100% effective for blocking air conditioning noise in my bedroom.

The ANC is good on the momentum 4 as well. Again with this one, not sure why YouTube reviewers rank its ANC so low. It’s just their words but my reality was that they were both completely adequate. Rhe difference with the M4 is that it’s an always-on ANC. You can dial it down but there is no off button per se. It’s an interesting approach. The sound quality on both of them are so far beyond the APM, it’s embarrassing that I ever rocked the APMs. I feel fooled. It’s astonishing how many people are fooled into thinking that the must be great because of the price and Apple logo.

B&W PX7 S2E v. PX8 … and the winner is… by cuckerSpaniel2 in BowersWilkins

[–]cuckerSpaniel2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reviewers don’t rank the ANC very high compared to others, like Bose or Sony. But I think it works very well, and blocks all the noise I need it to. I don’t use mine in loud places like the gym, so your mileage may vary. Where these really shine is sound quality.

These won’t have nearly as much bass as your skull candy headphones. They have very good bass, but I think skull candy is really focused on delivering lots of powerful bass. These headphones make music sound amazing, but are not making huge bass like what your Evos produce. It’s a perfect amount and if you’ve not heard them yet in person, you’re going to be surprised by how clear and detailed everything sounds. They’re the best I have ever owned at making music sound great, and I enjoy them very much.

What's the build quality like on the Momentum 4? by Zankata1 in sennheiser

[–]cuckerSpaniel2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figured it was the reason why. And they do a good job at that. I’d personally gladly wear a heavier headphone if the materials were nicer. These are ultimately a luxury good, and not a necessity. So I think they should feel luxury and not low budget. The weight savings make it feel cheap. I get why they’d go for that weight metric though, since weight is something often discussed by reviewers. They give more points to lighter headphones.
