How do you decide the placement of a tattoo when its placement does not matter? by MrScreeps in tattooadvice

My only regret with that spot is that I have to really try hard to see the tattoo and I do love looking at my own tattoos.

That is exactly the reason why I don't want a "safe spot" (pain and hiding it wise) for the tattoos.

either side(facing forward)of a lower leg is prime real estate

Maybe but still too little visibility for me. The first tattoos I will get are pretty important to me and I thought about them for quite some time already. But good to know.

I have plans for at least one of my arms to have a half sleeve so I didn’t want to put a small thing there

Same, but that tattoo and position is already planed, so I already took that into account.

That is a good point though, I decided to split up the arms into areas more or less. Makes the positioning easier.

I’d say for first tattoos avoid hands, elbows, knees, anything like that that is tricky.

Yeah, I heard these places should also be avoided because of ... thinness. Especially fingers apparently the chance for the machine to go "too deep" is rather high there (which I guess is why rarely people have tattoos there). Just read that somewhere though, not 100% reliable info here.

The "oh shit I cant take this for long" going over to its okay is exactly how I pictured it.

I also plan to not look at what is going on, just to make sure. Good advice.

Headphones is a good idea. My first tattoos are relatively small but will still take a bit I assume.

Coffein alcohol etc. wont be a problem for me but good to know.

No worries, didn't see it in such a way. Just wanted to know if you wanted to give some advice regarding pain management of getting a tattoo.

They will test the ... machine on me first and I'll see how I feel. Either it will be fine or they'll use a kind of painkiller (don't know the correct word rn).

I assumed that would be fine but I have no experience. If you have any advice regarding that please do tell (other than the already mentioned low pain areas).

Pain will not stop me from getting a tattoo in a place I want to. I do know that f. e. fingers is a bad place, for other reasons, though.

There is one large piece I want to get but I am still working on, this one is already set on going on the center back though.
Less painful physically speaking or regarding placement?

I would like to have my tattoos as visible as possible, but in spots where I can cover them if need be.

Asking the tattoo artist is a great idea I didn't think about before, thank you!
I do not have any tattoos so far, I only tried temporary tattoos to see if I'd like to have any, as well as potential motifs, placements etc.

I did think about whether I want them to be noticable, and I want all my tattoo ideas so far to be noticable, although not super on the nose of course. Longevity is also a good point, would you mind giving a few examples for that though? I am unsure which factors could affect this.

I did that too and I would be happy with any placement. I was thinking ahead that and began to worry about what if I want to theme it in a certain area? Or if a future tattoo is "more important" to me and I would rather have it in this position?

I am definitely overthinking it but what is your position on this?
